THE POSITION: 

The City of San Pablo is actively recruiting for a Community Services Coordinator I/II position to plan, organize, and direct services and programs within the Community Services Department for our senior population, volunteer programs and city-wide special events. Our senior programs provide opportunities for adults 50 years of age and older, to engage in active and healthy programming. The Church Lane Senior Center hosts a congregate lunch program, numerous senior focused special events, weekday door-to-door transportation service (managed by a different full-time coordinator) and drop- in programs and classes. The city hosts 10-12 city-wide special events each year that include family dances, spring egg hunt, Cinco de Mayo celebration, Movies Under the Stars, 4th of July Multi-Cultural celebration, Halloween, Veterans Day and a Winter Wonderland Festival. The Community Services Department relies heavily on volunteers for both special events and senior programs and wants to expand the volunteer recruitment and training program.

The Department

The Human Services Department (HSD) delivers and supports services by forging long-term community partnerships, engaging with and building the capacity of the community to do its own problem-solving, and leveraging financial and volunteer resources. The Department’s nationally and internationally recognized programs support thousands of residents throughout their life course, from infants to elders. The department offers a working environment which is friendly, supportive, collegial, and where staff of many disciplines come together to problem solve, compassionately assist those in need, and share successes.

The Aging and Family Services Division (AFS) of HSD specifically supports older residents and their caregivers to live active, healthy lives in the Tri-City community. With input from local, older adults (age 55 years+) as our guide, the AFS team strives to provide and AFS staff work together to provide a continuum of supportive services that range from health promotion activities to home-based end of life care. AFS has a Senior InfoLine (phone and email) that is answered in 4 language (Farsi, English, Spanish and Chinese) that is often an entry point. As an older adult or their caregiver’s situation changes, they seamlessly have access to a continuum of programs that include counseling and emotional support; care coordination and resource assistance; specialized family caregiver support and education. Many of these supportive services are provided in the resident’s home. We also provide regular expert clinical consultation, supervision, opportunities for self-reflection, and team building, fostering a culture of empathy, inclusivity, humility, and respect.

The Position

Under the supervision of the Age Well Center Managers, the Chef/Food Services Manager position manages meal programs for the City of Fremont’s Age Well Centers. Chef responsibilities across both Age Well Center locations include the performance of menu planning, purchasing of foodstuffs, preparing quantity meals, supervising and assisting kitchen employees and volunteers and maintaining clean and orderly kitchens.

The incumbent will be responsible for properly cooked, economical, and wholesome, well balanced meals in City operated Age Well Centers. This position is not limited to being responsible for the assignment of work, supervision and evaluation of paid and volunteer food service workers. The review and approval of proposed menus, food purchases, control and monitoring of expenditure rates; and institution of disciplinary actions are functions reserved for the Program Coordinator or Age Well Center Managers.

Examples of Duties

• Plan menus with consideration for the dietary needs of older adults, wholesomeness, quantity of food to be prepared and budgetary constraints.
• Estimate food requirements and requisitions for food and supplies.
• Prepare, cook, and serve a wide variety of foodstuffs for quantity food service.
• May cut/carve and cook meats; bake breads, cakes and pastries; peel and prepare vegetables; and make salads.
• Place food in serving containers and serves food.
• Maintain proper temperature, rotation and storage of food.
• Direct and assist in cleaning kitchens and kitchen equipment after each meal.
• Estimate food requirements and requisitions for food and supplies.
• Direct and assist in the cleaning of the kitchen and kitchen equipment after each meal.
• Oversee that the kitchen and equipment are kept clean, sanitary and in proper working condition. Schedule regular maintenance of kitchen equipment as needed. Maintain standards of safety and sanitation in kitchen area.
• Recruit, train, supervise, instruct, and direct employees and volunteers assigned to working in the kitchens.
• Develop and support additional meal programs, including, but not limited to fundraisers, catering events and cooking demonstrations and special events.
• Keep records and prepare reports as required. Inclusive of any certification requirements and/or medical clearances required of subordinate employees and volunteers.
• Oversee community garden program, including crop rotation, seasonal planting, and maintenance assignment.
• Coordinate with office staff, marketing and sales strategies to increase visibility and participation for meal programs.
• Ensure kitchen compliance with health regulations and participate in health inspections.
• Other duties as assigned.

The position facilitates community awareness and partnerships, with individuals and agencies, to promote an age-friendly environment.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This is the entry-level classification in the Recreation Leader series responsible for providing operational assistance and support to an assigned program area.  Positions at this level are not expected to function with the same amount of knowledge or skill level as positions allocated to the Recreation Leader II level and usually exercise less independent discretion and judgment in matters related to work procedures and methods.  Work is usually supervised while in progress and fits an established structure or pattern.  Exceptions or changes in procedures are explained in detail as they arise.  As experience is gained, assignments become more varied and are performed with greater independence.  This classification is distinguished from the Recreation Leader II in that the latter classification is responsible for performing the full range of duties with respect to providing recreation programs, activities, and classes and providing instruction to participants within an assigned program.

This is the journey-level classification in the Recreation Leader series responsible for performing the full range of recreation program class and activities support.  Incumbents are expected to work independently and exercise judgment and initiative.  Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit.  This classification is distinguished from the Recreation Coordinator in that the latter is responsible for all operational activities within an assigned program area, including serving in an ongoing lead capacity over program staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Receives general supervision from higher-level supervisory staff and direction from higher-level staff. Exercises direction over lower-level staff and volunteers. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS This is the advanced journey-level and lead class in the Recreation Leader series responsible for leading and directing the activities of subordinate staff within an assigned program area, but may also be assigned to perform difficult and complex support work within a program area. Incumbents are expected to work independently and exercise judgment and initiative. This classification is distinguished from Recreation Coordinator in that the latter is responsible for all operational activities within an assigned program area, including serving in an ongoing lead capacity over program staff.

Description

The Town of Colma Recreation Services Department is currently accepting applications for Recreation Leaders for Summer 2024.  The Recreation Department provides programs and activities for Colma residents of all ages ranging from infants to seniors. Program elements include fitness, enrichment, cultural events, special events, sporting events, trips, and community events. It is the goal of the Recreation Department to offer a balanced program ensuring all elements are offered to all age groups throughout the year. This is a part-time position. Hours will range from 20-37 hours per week.

This position is under direct supervision of the Recreation Coordinator. Leaders will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing the Summer Day Camp at Sterling Park.

Recreation Leader I/II/III 

The City of Foster City is searching for talented, energetic, responsible individuals who are serious about having fun! If you can think on your feet and be a fun team player, this could be the position for you! As a Recreation Leader, you’ll be responsible for implementing quality youth and teen programs and providing a safe environment for our participants. This is a part-time, seasonal, non-benefited position limited to approximately 20 hours per week and 980 hours in a fiscal year. Level of position will be determined based on the experience (see Education and Training Guidelines).

The Vibe Teen Center: We are looking for Recreation Leaders to assist with supervision, lead recreational activities, supervise rentals, and plan special events for teens. This position will start in June and Recreation Leaders must be able to work on a Friday or work a weekend shift each week. Work hours will vary, but typically will be from:

School Year Schedule: Positions are limited.

• Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday 3:00pm-6:30pm
• Wednesdays: 2:00pm-6:30pm

Recreation Leader II: Completion of the ninth grade. Experience as a participant in a variety of recreation activities. Some experience in group leadership is desirable.

Recreation Leader III: Completion of the twelfth grade. Previous experience in recreation leadership is required, including group leadership or work with younger children. Previous experience supervising staff.

General Description

As a Mental Health Counselor in the Human Services Department, incumbents will provide a full range of culturally responsive intake assessments, individual, family and group counseling, and crisis intervention services to enhance the mental health of those in need.

The Counselor is part of a larger Human Services team that includes psychologists, nurses, social work case managers, a family partner (peer support specialist), substance use disorder intervention specialists, and interns. Counselors receive continuous clinical training, consultation and professional development opportunities and receive supervision from a Clinical Supervisor.

The current vacancies are for 2 full-time benefitted positions in the Aging and Family Services (AFS) Division, working primarily with Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) older adults.

Examples of Duties

• Conduct intake assessment which includes, psycho-social functioning, family and peer relationships, cultural/language needs and family strengths; develop care plans that respond to the individual’s or families’ values and strengths.
• Establish clinical diagnoses and identify list of problems and needs.
• Provide individual, family and group counseling to enhance clients’ mental and emotional health, social functioning and independent living skills, using a variety of therapeutic and counseling techniques.
• Provide therapy and supportive services to individuals /children and families from varying cultural backgrounds.
• Coordinate care plan.
• Link clients to available social services, educational and medical resources as appropriate.
• Comply with City, state, county, funders and agency’s policies and procedures, legal and ethical standards, quality assurance goals and audit requirements.
• Prepare correspondence and reports on treatment histories, progress and other matters related to the client’s treatment.
• Write and maintain clinical records following City and Funders’ guidelines. Attend quality chart review, case consultation meetings.
• Meet and maintain billing goals on a monthly basis.
• Attend required agency meetings and professional training.
• Attend community meetings, participate in task forces and committees as assigned.
• Conduct classes and give presentations to community organizations as assigned.
• Conduct services where client is most comfortable and are most appropriate including office-based sessions, field based, hospital, telehealth, school and home-based sessions.
• May provide clinical supervision to entry level interns or trainees, training and assistance to other staff or volunteers.

THE POSITION:     

Under the direction of the Pool Manager, the Assistant Pool Manager is responsible for assigned aquatic program areas, and acts as Pool Manager during the Pool Manager’s absence. The Assistant Manager assists in the direction and supervision of the staff and programs at the facility. This is an at-will, intermittent, part-time, hourly position. Work a flexible work schedule, which may include evening, weekdays, weekends and holidays

• Acts as Pool Manager in the absence of same.
• Assist with pool staff assignments and scheduling.

• Acts in capacity of pool lifeguard.
• Assist in maintaining on-site security and safety of participants, staff, and others in the pool area, preparation and maintenance of incident records.
• Assist in organization, teaching and evaluation of swim lessons and pool activities.
• Enforce City and program rules and guidelines.
• Assist Pool Manager to monitor correct completion of required paperwork.
• Attend pertinent staff meetings as required during the season.
• Perform other program-related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is completion of 60 college semester units. Previous volunteer or paid experience in a law enforcement support area is desirable.
 
Other requirements include:

• Must be free from any disqualifications for employment, including felony convictions.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States under federal law.
• Must be 21 years of age or older at time of appointment.
• Must be fingerprinted for purposes of search of local, state, and national fingerprint files to disclose a criminal record.
• Must be of good moral character, as determined by a thorough background investigation.
• Must be a high school graduate, pass the General Education Development Test or other high school equivalency test approved by the State Department of Education that indicates high school graduation level, pass the California High School Proficiency Examination, or have attained a two-year, four-year, or advanced degree from an accredited college or university.
• Must be found to be free from any physical, emotional, or mental condition, including bias against race or ethnicity, gender, nationality, religion, disability, or sexual orientation, that might adversely affect the exercise of the powers of a peace officer.
• Must possess a valid California driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record. 
• Must be able to meet physical, psychological and background standards. 
• Must be willing to work evening, night, weekend and holiday shifts. 
• Must be able to obtain required POST certification and maintain firearms qualification.

EXAM PROCESS

If you are unable to attend the City of Berkeley exam dates, you may register and take your exams with The Academy. The Academy charges a non-refundable materials fee of $10 for the written exam, $25 for the practice PAT, and $100 for the official PAT. After taking the exams and receiving passing scores, please attach your scores to your application.

POST will not authorize you to take the exam within 30 calendar days of having taken your last POST written exam. Please refer to the POST website for additional information.

Applicants may waive the written exam only by submitting a California POST Entry Level Law Enforcement Test Battery (PELLETB) T-score of 48 points or higher. We will accept California POST T-scores from other agencies provided the test was taken no more than one year prior to the date of application. Applicants must submit, on agency letterhead, a letter that states that the individual has taken the California PELLETB written exam. The letter must contain the total T-score and the date of the test. For information on where the PELLETB test is offered, please visit www.theacademy.ca.gov/tests.

Applicants may waive the performance exam only by submitting a California POST physical agility certificate, known as the Work Sample Test Battery (WSTB), with a score of 325 or higher.  The 1.5-mile run is not a requirement.  The test should not be dated no more than one year prior to the date of application.

Tests may consist of any combination of written, oral or other exercises or assessment procedures that test content and may include, but are not necessarily limited to, typing, math, reading, writing and analytical skills; problem solving ability; computer and software proficiency, or any other job-related knowledge, skill, ability or qualification. The examination process and dates are subject to change. The City may, without notice, change or eliminate any assessment component as needs dictate. Applicants passing all examination phases will have their names placed on an employment eligible list that hiring departments will use to conduct final selection interviews.
