The City of Sunnyvale is seeking to hire two positions for Librarian I for the new Lakewood Branch Library! The current vacancies are: one Full-Time Librarian I and one Part-Time Librarian I (21 hours per week). 

We are seeking energetic and highly motivated individuals who possess excellent customer service, technical, and interpersonal skills to join our team. The ideal candidates will have experience working closely with the public in a fast-paced full-service library environment. Key responsibilities include creating new and innovative programs for the public, using state-of the-art technology to develop library content, and selecting interesting and relevant titles for the collection. Special projects may include expanding the Library's community engagement and outreach activities. The position requires a Master's degree in Library and Information Science from an American Library Association accredited program.
 

The list established from this recruitment may be used to fill future Librarian I vacancies (Part-Time and Full-Time) at the Sunnyvale Main Library and the Lakewood Branch Library.

Minimum Qualifications

Education/Experience

Librarian I

A Master's degree in Library and Information Science or similar field of study from an American Library Association accredited program.

Library Assistant

The City of Sunnyvale is seeking to fill the position of a regular full-time Library Assistant at the Lakewood Branch Library with a friendly, confident, energetic, and highly motivated individual who possesses excellent customer service, technical and interpersonal skills.

The ideal candidate will have experience working closely with the public and coordinating workflow in a fast-paced library circulation environment. They will possess leadership skills and demonstrate the ability to provide excellent customer service to members of the public and staff alike. Key responsibilities include providing customer service to patrons, resolving customer service issues, guiding staff with work assignments, supporting and leading programming, and monitoring and troubleshooting self-check, automated materials handling and other technology.

Education/Experience

The minimum qualifications for education and experience can be met in the following way:

Graduation from high school or tested equivalent; AND

One year of increasingly responsible library experience which includes or is supplemented by in-service training or college level courses in library science.

THE DEPARTMENT

The South San Francisco Public Library is a full-service library committed to delivering quality services to a diverse community.  Library services are available at three sites, including the Main Library (901 Civic Campus Way), the Grand Avenue Library (306 Walnut Avenue) and the Gene Mullin Community Learning Center (520 Tamarack Lane).  Lifelong literacy services are provided by Project Read at the Main Library and the Gene Mullin Community Learning Center (GMCLC).

THE POSITION

This classification is distinguished from all other Library classifications by its responsibility for program development and implementation in coordinating the day-to-day operation of a literacy program, and by the degree of initiative and independence necessary to oversee the coordination of resources and materials. Incumbents must exercise considerable initiative and judgment, have good communication and assessment skills, and be able to work accurately and independently.
