Happy Hollow Park & Zoo (HHPZ) is a 16-acre amusement park and an Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA) accredited zoo located in San José, California with the mission of connecting people to nature through play. HHPZ is open to the public year-round. 

Supported by the Happy Hollow Foundation, HHPZ provides a variety of outdoor play experiences for all ages. Position Duties

The Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services Department is currently seeking to fill one (1) full-time Parks, Recreation Facilities Supervisor vacancy in the Parks Division at Happy Hollow Park & Zoo.

The total salary range for the Parks, Recreation, and Facilities Supervisor classification is $112,563.36 - $137,220.72 annually.

This amount includes an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable pay. The actual salary shall be determined by the final candidates’ qualifications and experience. 

The Parks, Recreation and Facilities Supervisor at  HHPZ plans, directs, coordinates, and supervises park operations (Parking, Admission, Membership, Guest Services, Food & Beverage, Entertainment, Celebrations, Admin services, Rides, Facility Maintenance, Park Maintenance), programs, budgeting, hiring, and contract management. 

The Parks, Recreation and Facilities Supervisor plays a critical role in developing the future strategic plan which includes managing facility improvement projects that support the mission of HHPZ. The Parks Facility Supervisor also supervises, trains, and evaluates park staff, including the Food & Beverage Supervisor and Amusement Park Supervisor and collaborates closely with the Zoo Manager and the Public Information Representative, under the guidance of the HHPZ Parks Manager. 

The desired candidate is a proven leader in recreation and amusement park management and will be a key champion for the goals and objective of the park, cultivating and maintaining effective relationships with stakeholders, agencies and partner organizations. We are seeking someone with a strong comprehensive safety background, who can create and promote a work environment and culture that reflects Happy Hollow’s values and continually reviews and reinforces the mission and vision of Happy Hollow. The Newark Recreation and Community Services Department is seeking enthusiastic individuals who are passionate about working with the public and have a genuine interest in coaching and serving as positive role models in their community. The General Maintenance Worker plays a vital role in keeping our communities and centers clean, safe, and visually appealing. This position focuses on a specific set of tasks tailored to meet the needs of the Recreation & Community Services Department, differing from the broader responsibilities of a full General Maintenance Worker under the Public Works Department. The Recreation Coordinator or Recreation and Community Services Supervisor is the key point of contact for this position, providing general direction and/or supervision.

1. Field Preparation: Assist with basic field preparation for baseball and softball, including tasks like dragging the infield play area, marking chalk lines, and other essential setup activities.
    
2. Groundskeeping: Support keeping the exterior areas of community centers clean and presentable by removing trash and maintaining general tidiness. Assist with watering and care of indoor plants within recreation centers as needed.
    
3. Facility Cleaning: Perform light janitorial duties, including cleaning restrooms, fitness centers, and lobbies.
    
4. Events & Equipment Support: Assist with event setup and teardown once events are completed. Maintain special event equipment, furniture and supplies and promptly report any damaged or broken items to a supervisor for replacement.

PROGRAM LEADER (Youth Services/Kids’ Night Out/Kids Day Out Programs)

Salary Range: $17.37 to $23.15/hour (DOE)

Part-time temporary, non-benefitted position; 10 hours per month in Kids’ Night Out Program and Bi-monthly Friday night availability (6-11 pm) required. Additional shifts are available on San Ramon Unified School District days off school, during recreation pop ups, and special events. (not-to-exceed 950 hours per fiscal year). GENERAL DUTIES

Under the general supervision of the Youth Program Coordinator, Youth Services staff is responsible for supervision and safety within the bi-monthly Kids’ Night Out and Kids Day Out Program, including implementing a variety of crafts, games and activities for youth ages 5 to 11.  As a Youth Services staff member, you will:

• Gain experience leading arts, crafts, games, and activities;
• Serve as a mentor and role model to youth;
• Learn to work as part of a team and lead activities;
• Acquire skills to safely and appropriately supervise youth in a staff-to-youth ratio environment.
• Assist with recreation pop ups and special events
• Other duties as assigned

Specific to Youth Services:

• Plan and execute duties related to special interest classes, school-year and seasonal programs, and special events.
• Serve as a role model and advocate for youth.
• Effectively facilitate and/or lead small and large groups of youth.
• Communicate effectively with youth and their parents.
• Willing and available to work flexible hours as needed.

The City of Lincoln is hiring up to 12 Senior Recreation Aides within the Recreation Department. We are seeking candidates who demonstrate a passion for working with children, along with strong reliability, creativity, and enthusiasm.

Seasonal employees are limited to working no more than 999 hours in a fiscal year.

Under general supervision, performs a variety of frontline staff duties within the City Recreation Department and other related duties as required.

The Senior Recreation Aide is the advanced journey level class and is responsible for performing more complex assignments within an established procedural framework where there are consequences of error. This classification is distinguished from the next higher classification of Recreation Coordinator by the performance of complex assignments and supervisory responsibilities.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED:

Receives supervision from administrative and/or management staff. Incumbents of this class do not routinely exercise supervision but those at the higher levels may be asked to supervise from time to time but not on a consistent basis.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  (include but are not limited to the following)

Duties specific to working as a Recreation Aide in the Sports arena:

• Assist with the following: set-up and tear down of program equipment, preparation of playing fields and routine facility maintenance.
• Keep statistics and accurate score for basketball, softball, flag football, soccer & volleyball.
• Collect and record the team’s lineups and assist officials during the game with specific rules and policies.
• Officiate adult & youth volleyball, youth basketball & youth flag football games.
• Uphold the rules of play and code of conduct.

Duties specific to working as a Recreation Aide in the Camp/General arena: 

• Develop and implement activities and programs for youth.
• Directly supervise children, monitor and redirect behavior, both on site and during trips.

Duties that pertain to both areas:

• Assist with the creation and distribution of advertising material for upcoming recreational programs and events.
• Assist with the distribution & collection of participant surveys.
• Demonstrate understanding of applicable policies, procedures and work methods associated with assigned duties.
• Establish positive working relationships with City management and staff, and the public.
• Assist with special events and perform other duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Knowledge of: Principles, practices and methods used in various recreational activities and programs. Basic principles of reading and mathematics, applicable federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations, including recreational manuals and specifications; standard office procedures, practices and equipment; modern office equipment including a computer and applicable software; methods and techniques for record keeping and report preparation and writing; proper English, spelling and grammar; and occupational hazards and standard safety procedures.

Skill to: Be able to receive direction and follow oral and written instructions; have qualities such as reliability, dependability, creativity and enthusiasm; ability to develop effective working relationships with fellow city employees, children, and parents. Ability to work with children, a strong knowledge of sports programs and the rules or running recreational programs. Operate an office computer and variety of word processing and software applications.

Ability to: Lift up to 50 lbs.; deal successfully with the public, in person and over the telephone; courteously respond to community issues, concerns and needs; interpret, explain and apply applicable laws, codes, rules and regulations; make suggestions to adjust standard operating procedures as is appropriate; read, interpret and record data accurately; organize, prioritize and follow-up on work assignments; work independently and as part of a team; make sound decisions within established guidelines; follow written and oral directions; observe safety principles and work in a safe manner; communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships.
