POSITION INFORMATION

Recreation Leader I/II Summer Nature Camp will work with children ages 4-13 years old in an outdoor day camp setting.  Camps cover a variety of different themes, all involving crafts, outdoor games and nature exploration.  Designation of Recreation Leader I or II will be dependent on experience.

RECREATION LEADER I- $16.54

 

SUMMARY

Under immediate supervision, performs routine support duties in support of recreational programs, events, and activities; prepares buildings, fields, and facilities for scheduled activities/events; performs recordkeeping and scorekeeping duties at sports events; provides routine administrative support; and performs related work as required. 

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives immediate supervision from higher-level supervisory staff and direction from higher-level staff.  Exercises no supervision over staff.

 

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This is the entry-level classification in the Recreation Leader series responsible for providing operational assistance and support to an assigned program area.  Positions at this level are not expected to function with the same amount of knowledge or skill level as positions allocated to the Recreation Leader II level and usually exercise less independent discretion and judgment in matters related to work procedures and methods.  Work is usually supervised while in progress and fits an established structure or pattern.  Exceptions or changes in procedures are explained in detail as they arise.  As experience is gained, assignments become more varied and are performed with greater independence.  This classification is distinguished from the Recreation Leader II in that the latter classification is responsible for performing the full range of duties with respect to providing recreation programs, activities, and classes and providing instruction to participants within an assigned program.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Management reserves the right to add, modify, change, or rescind the work assignments of different positions and to make reasonable accommodations so that qualified employees can perform the essential functions of the job.

1. Assists in conducting and monitoring recreational program activities within one or more assigned program areas; learns to perform tasks in accordance with rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
2. Opens, secures, and cleans program areas before and after program use; prepares program areas for scheduled recreational activities and events.
3. Serves as a scorekeeper for various adult/youth athletic sports programs.
4. Assists with the operation of recreation/sports camps or other large programs; learns to provide some instruction to participants under the guidance and direction of a program leader.
5. Inspects program areas and equipment and recommends maintenance and repair as needed.
6. Maintains records of participation and collects participant fees.
7. Issues, receives, and controls the use of recreational equipment and supplies; monitors equipment inventories and recommends procurement of items as needed.
8. Assists in the implementation and monitoring of District procedures with respect to participant safety.
9. Performs routine administrative duties such as phone and counter reception and registration processing.
10. Assists with District special events as needed.

ENVIRONMENTAL ELEMENTS

Incumbents work in both indoor and outdoor environments with moderate to loud noise levels.  May work in controlled temperature conditions, cold and hot temperatures, or inclement weather conditions.  Incumbents will interact with individuals in interpreting and enforcing rules, policies, and procedures.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must possess mobility to perform medium physical work; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone or radio.  The classification supports indoor and outdoor recreation programs requiring frequent walking, running, conducting exercises, and related physical activities.  Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard, calculator, or tools and equipment used in assigned program area.  Program activities may require sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping, and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties; the ability to lift, carry, and push tools, equipment, and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds or higher weights with assistance and/or the use of proper equipment.

Under general supervision, performs support work related to recreational programs, events, and activities; provides instruction and conducts classes/activities for program participants under the guidance and direction of higher-level staff; prepares buildings, fields, and facilities for scheduled activities or events; provides routine administrative support; and performs related work as required.

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives general supervision from higher-level supervisory staff and direction from higher-level staff.  Exercises direction over lower-level staff and volunteers.

 

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This is the journey-level classification in the Recreation Leader series responsible for performing the full range of recreation program class and activities support.  Incumbents are expected to work independently and exercise judgment and initiative.  Positions at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit.  This classification is distinguished from the Recreation Coordinator in that the latter is responsible for all operational activities within an assigned program area, including serving in an ongoing lead capacity over program staff.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

SUMMARY

Under general supervision, performs support work related to recreational programs, events, and activities; provides instruction and conducts classes/activities for program participants under the guidance and direction of higher-level staff; prepares buildings, fields, and facilities for scheduled activities or events; and provides routine administrative support. May assist with the development, promotion, and implementation of programs which meet the needs of a diverse community; ensures program facilities are properly maintained; and performs related work as required.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives general supervision from higher-level supervisory staff and direction from higher-level staff. Exercises direction over lower-level staff and volunteers. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS This is the advanced journey-level and lead class in the Recreation Leader series responsible for leading and directing the activities of subordinate staff within an assigned program area, but may also be assigned to perform difficult and complex support work within a program area. Incumbents are expected to work independently and exercise judgment and initiative. This classification is distinguished from Recreation Coordinator in that the latter is responsible for all operational activities within an assigned program area, including serving in an ongoing lead capacity over program staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Sausalito Parks and Recreation is Seeking Vibrant Skilled Recreation Leaders

This recruitment is for Spring and Summer Events and Activities such as Bocce and  Volleyball Referee, Jazz and Blues Event Staff, Fourth of July Event Staff, and other fun classes, activities, and events

Pay: $16.00 - $17.00/ Hr

The City of Sausalito is recruiting for part-time temporary help for the spring and summer seasonal recreation activities and City-wide events.  The first of these is the Bocce League referee.

Bocce Referee
As a Sausalito Parks and Recreation Bocce Referee, you are responsible for set-up, management, and cleanup of scheduled Bocce matches. You are the enforcer of rules, an impartial judge, and an advocate for fun and fair play. The ideal candidate will maintain a positive attitude and provide a friendly environment when communicating with teams and keeping score. This position reports directly to the Recreation Supervisor.   The ideal candidate must meet all minimum requirements as listed below and be confident and capable of dealing with conflict and intense games. 

To be considered for this position, you must be available for the entirety of the season:

• March 5 - May 16 Tues-Thurs (approximately)
• Saturdays May 11th &18th 

Event Staff

As a Sausalito Parks and Recreation Event Staff member, you are responsible for actively participating in set-up, cleanup, and management of your assigned event.  You must arrive on time and remain until the event leader release you after the event.   Event staff may set up chairs, tables, stages, corridors, and barriers.  You may be asked to perform traffic control or direct drivers to parking.   The ideal candidate will have a can-do attitude, smile often, meet all of the minimum requirements below, remain calm under pressure and in the face of adversity, be cheerful, and love the diversity of people. 

The minimum requirements for the position are:

THE PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT:  The Parks and Recreation Director heads up a staff that includes three full-time Supervisors, three Landscapers, two custodians, a full-time Administrative Aide, and a number of part-time Recreation Leaders and volunteers.  A dedicated and energetic Parks and Recreation Commission assists the staff in successfully planning and carrying out a number of year-round special events and programs, in coordinating a varied offering of classes and sports activities, and in spearheading improvement and beautification projects for City parks and public facilities.

SUMMER AQUATIC STAFF POSITIONS
Salary Range: $16.54 to $29.22/hour; non-benefited, DOE and position offered

 

The Town of Danville strives to provide an aquatic environment that is safe, instructive and fun through recreational and lap swim, special events, the Learn to Swim program, Junior Lifeguard program and Lifeguard training classes.

 

PROGRAM LEADER (SWIM INSTRUCTOR/LIFEGUARD)

Salary Range: $16.54 to $22.05/hour

 

QUALIFICATIONS  
Applicants must be at least 15 years of age.  Required certifications by the end of Staff Training Week:  American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid (Lifeguard).  

 

Aquatics staff members generally work 3-5 hours per day, in morning, afternoon, or evening shifts at San Ramon Valley High School or Monte Vista Pools.  Most staff members will work an average of 15-20 hours per week, up to a maximum of 37.5 hours per week. 

 

SUPERVISION 
Under the general supervision of the Pool Managers, Program Coordinator and Program Supervisor, the Swim Instructor/Lifeguard is responsible for ensuring aquatic safety and providing instruction for pool patrons.  Swim Instructors/Lifeguards must enjoy working with children and the general public, be patient, reliable and have lots of energy.  

 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES 
Job duties include lifeguarding, swim lesson instruction, leading pool programming, mandatory staff training, pulling tarps, required daily fitness swims, and administrative duties, including some weekend shifts.  Also: 

• Provide aquatic safety and instruction for pool patrons.

PROGRAM ASSISTANT (SENIOR GUARD)

Salary Range: $17.64 to $29.22/hour

 

QUALIFICATIONS 
Applicants must be at least 17 years of age.  Required certifications by the end of Staff Training Week: American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, and it is preferable to have a Water Safety Instructor certificate as well. Senior Guards must have at least two years of lifeguard/swim instructor experience; leadership experience is highly desired.

The Newark Recreation and Community Services Department is seeking enthusiastic individuals who are not only passionate about working with the public but also possess a genuine interest in coaching kids and making a positive impact as role models in their lives. The City of Newark is seeking energetic, organized, and responsible individuals who enjoy working with school-age children. Recreation Leaders will assist in the implementation and planning of a wide variety of arts and crafts, sports, games, special events, and excursions. The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Aquatics Specialist I in the Parks, Recreation and Waterfront Department! In this role, you will have the opportunity to provide instruction in swim and serve as a lifeguard at assigned swimming facilities. You'll teach lower swim levels and perform customer service functions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is: Equivalent to graduation from high school or current enrollment in an institution working toward a high school diploma or GED equivalent.

Must be 15 years of age. Must possess and maintain a current American Red Cross Lifeguard training certificate, and current American Red Cross CPR for professional rescuer certificate or equivalent.

PROGRAM LEADER (SPORTS AND FITNESS)

Salary Range: $16.54 to $22.05/hour, DOE

 

This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefitted position; 15-20 hours per week (not to exceed 950 hours per calendar year); predominantly afternoon/evening schedule, some weekends.

 

DEFINITION

 

The Town seeks gym monitors, scorekeepers, and leaders for a variety of youth and adult sports. Sports may include, but are not limited to basketball, softball, and bocce ball. Sports knowledge is preferred. All staff will be cross-trained for multiple sports. CPR/FA certification is recommended but not required.

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

 

Program Leader receives supervision from the Program Coordinator and/or Program

Assistant.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

Essential duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Scorekeeping and gym monitoring.
• Completing program score sheets, reports, and timesheets according to deadlines.
• Attending monthly staff meetings.
• Various tasks related to the implementation of sports programs.

The Newark Recreation and Community Services Department is looking for Senior Lifeguards for our fantastic swim lesson and aquatic programs and the upcoming to work at the year-round Silliman Activity & Family Aquatic Center. We are looking for positive, patient, motivated, self-driven individuals that have a passion for working in aquatics and with children, who wish to make a difference in a child's life by teaching them lifelong water skills! Swimming experience is required. Additional program training will be provided once hired. Those that are successful in the application review will be invited to attend an interview either in person, or via ZOOM and complete an in-person skills assessment. Please note that this position requires you to work in an indoor aquatic environment subject to warm/humid temperatures.

• Applicants should be able to work at least 12-20 hours per week, year-round, including weekends and holidays, with mandatory trainings.
