The City of Auburn is looking for a Transportation Supervisor to join our team!

The Transportation Supervisor is an important part of the City's transit team that provide services including the Auburn Loop fixed route and Auburn OnDemand ride share programs.

Under general supervision, operates a variety of transit vehicles such as diesel and electric motor coaches, cable cars, streetcars and light rail vehicles; transports passengers along a specific route and makes designated stops as required; accepts fares, issues transfers, gives general directional information; and performs related duties as required.

Examples of Important and Essential Duties
According to Civil Service Commission Rule 409, the duties specified below are representative of the range of duties assigned to this job code/class and are not intended to be an inclusive list.

1. Conducts pre-operational inspection of the transit vehicle, in accordance with federal and state laws and departmental regulations, to ensure it is functioning properly.
2. Inspects the passenger compartment of the vehicle to ensure it is free from hazards (such as spills, loose handrails and stanchions, defective seats, etc.) and that the video camera lenses are not obscured.
3. Safely navigates the vehicle through traffic along assigned routes, under various environmental conditions, in accordance with traffic laws and departmental regulations.
4. Operates the disability access lifts to assist people in wheelchairs onto the vehicle and properly secures their wheelchairs when they are on the vehicle.
5. Collects fares from passengers and issues transfers; checks passenger transfers, fast passes, and electronic passes to ensure they are valid.
6. Uses vehicle's intercom system to communicate instructions to passengers and to call out vehicle stops and transfer points.
7. Responds to customers' questions regarding routes, directions, fares and transfers.
8. Conducts a post-operational inspection of the outside of the vehicle to detect defects and body damage, broken windows, and graffiti.
9. Contacts Central Control regarding various emergencies such as medical emergencies, vehicle malfunctions, vehicle evacuations etc. and/or circumstances that may affect service such as heavy traffic, road hazards, road obstructions etc.
10. Completes accident, incident and/or miscellaneous reports to document unusual occurrences.

Nature of Work: Incumbents in this class may be required to work rotating shifts, holidays and weekends; to work outdoors in all weather conditions; and to use computers. In addition, may require standing and/or sitting for prolonged periods of time; performing different physical activities such as pulling poles, cranking switches in the subway, resetting retrievers to return disabled transit vehicles to service and assisting in the movement of disabled vehicles when possible. 4.  Possession of a valid class C Driver License. Must have been a licensed driver for at least three (3) continuous years from April 30, 2021 through April 30, 2024 AND

The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) has determined that Class 9163 Transit Operator is a “safety-sensitive” position, under regulations issued by the Federal Transit Administration (49 CFR Part 655). Federal law requires that all transit employees who perform safety-sensitive functions be subject to random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, return-to-duty and follow-up drug and alcohol testing. All applicants for Safety-Sensitive positions shall undergo urine drug testing prior to employment and within 90 days prior to performing Safety-Sensitive functions for the first time. Receipt by the SFMTA of a negative test result is required prior to the employee being placed on the payroll. A positive, adulterated, negative dilute or substituted test will result in a decision not to hire, and the applicant’s name will be removed from the list of eligibles for Safety-Sensitive positions. The SFMTA will not consider hiring any person who tested positive, adulterated, substituted or refused to submit to testing for a minimum of two years following the positive test.

In addition, each applicant who has worked for a Department of Transportation (DOT) – regulated employer(s) within the last two years will be required to sign a consent form, prior to appointment, authorizing SFMTA to obtain information from their prior employers concerning their drug and alcohol test history. Class B Permit with Passenger (P) endorsement and Airbrakes: 
Applicants who are successful in the examination process and who do not possess a Class B Driver License with Passenger (P) endorsement and airbrakes, will be required to obtain a Class B Driver Permit with Passenger (P) endorsement and airbrakes prior to starting the Transit Operator training.

Transit Operator Training:
All employees must successfully complete the SFMTA Operator Training Program consisting of both classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction. The rate of pay for a trainee is $31.0375 per hour.

Attendance to all training sessions is required. If a candidate misses any dates of training without providing proper notification, they will be released from their training class. If proper notification was provided, a candidate released during the training period due to attendance may request to be placed back on the eligible list to be considered for future classes, if the list from which they were hired is still active. Candidates may only request to be placed back on the eligible list one time.  Any candidate not approved to be placed back on the list or not able to be placed in another training class before the list expires will need to re-apply during the next filing period for applications.

DEFINITION:

TRANSIT PLANNER ASSISTANT

Under close supervision, the Assistant Transit Planner is responsible for providing entry level support to assist in the development, administration and analysis of the City’s public transit programs.

TRANSIT PLANNER ASSOCIATE

Under general supervision, the Associate Transit Planner is responsible for performing paraprofessional work to assist in the development, administration and analysis of the City’s public transit programs.

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS:

TRANSIT PLANNER ASSISTANT

This is the entry-level class in the Transit Planner series and will receive direction and guidance from the Transit Manager. Work given to an incumbent in this class involves assisting in analysis and development of transit programs and services, research of new trends in public transit and comparing how Union City provides service delivery, and participation in coordination events or meetings on behalf of Union City. The Transit Planner Assistant has basic knowledge of the operating procedures and policies of transit and/or transportation planning. An incumbent may advance to the higher levels after gaining experience and demonstrating proficiency that meets the qualifications of the higher-level class.

TRANSIT PLANNER ASSOCIATE

This is an experienced-level class within the Transit Planner series and will receive general direction from the Transit Manager. Work given to an incumbent in this class involves general analysis and development of transit programs and services, research of new trends in public transit and comparing how Union City provides service delivery, and participation in coordination events or meetings on behalf of Union City resulting in recommendations based on the incumbent’s work. The Transit Planner Associate has general knowledge of the operating procedures and policies of transit and/or transportation planning.

• Assist in/Evaluates* the planning, operations and activities of the City’s public transit programs (fixed route, paratransit, and microtransit).

JOB SUMMARY: The San Mateo County Transit District is seeking a highly technical IT Operations Supervisor to join our team. Under the supervision of the IT Operations Manager, the Supervisor will coordinate the efficient and effective operations of the Help Desk team for the District, including work direction and supervision of Help Desk staff and coordination with other District information technology staff. This position is responsible for planning, assigning, and directing work; documenting and gaining approval for all help desk support procedures and system documentation; and assisting team members in answering calls, addressing service or escalation issues, and applying independent decision making to resolve problems or escalate problems to management. The IT Operations Supervisor develops regular reports on help desk contacts, ensures that service levels are met, identifies trends and makes recommendations for service improvements, and provides budgetary recommendations to management for service growth and/or improvement.

IT Operations Supervisor will work closely with various users in San Mateo County Transit District (SamTrans), the Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board (Caltrain), and the San Mateo County Transportation Authority (TA) and other departments and is responsible for managing all procedures related to the identification, prioritization, and resolution of end user help requests, including the monitoring, tracking, and coordination of Help Desk functions. The role will also contribute to problem resolution by giving in-person, hands-on support to end users at the desktop level.

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Supervise help desk support staff’s daily activities ensuring timely and professional delivery of technical support for calls on computers, core software products, and related hardware peripherals.
• Plan, organize, and direct the work of help desk support staff, including Help Desk Specialists; schedule shift coverage; evaluate and document performance and recommend disciplinary action when necessary; and review staff work for accuracy and timely completion of assigned duties.

The Highway Program Deputy Director, reporting to the Chief of Engineering and Program Delivery, manages a diverse and talented team of seasoned staff who is well-versed on the delivery of capital projects related to the State highway system and other roadways in the county. This position is responsible for directing and leading collaboration on planning, design development (including technical analysis in support of preliminary engineering and final design), project-related right-of-way activities (in coordination with VTA Real Estate), construction management and close out, overall program/project management (including scopes, costs, schedules and quality of work), management of staff resources (both VTA and consultant), coordination with project stakeholders within VTA and beyond (e.g., local agencies, Caltrans, federal agencies, resources agencies, utilities, etc.), and community and other outreach (working with VTA public information and government affairs staff).
