THE POSITION:  

Under general supervision, the Shelter Volunteer Coordinator assists in the planning, organization, implementation and review of the Animal Care Volunteer Program; assists with recruiting, training, scheduling and evaluation of volunteer staff; performs community liaison functions, coordinates public relations activities; humane education programs and performs related work as required.

The ideal candidate will have prior experience as a volunteer coordinator working in an animal shelter. The candidate will have experience handling shelter animals and be able to train volunteers how to safely handle animals. The candidate will have experience in volunteer program development as well as the ability to analyze volunteer program data for retention. The ideal candidate will have some experience using the Chameleon software for animal management.  

Essential Duties

What you will do:   

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
 
Recruits, interviews, recommends, orients, trains and evaluates volunteers; schedules their daily work assignments and activities to assure maximum program coverage and effectiveness;
 
Ensures that all departmental procedures are followed.
 
Under direction from the Animal Services Administrator, responds to volunteer complaints and conflicts that may arise.
 
Maintains a system for tracking volunteer program hours, schedules, skills and abilities, as well as performance measures.
 
Maintains and physically organizes volunteer work areas, files and records.
 
Prepares annual report on volunteer hours and activities.

Under general direction, develops and implements policies and procedures for implementing various volunteer, shelter and community programs; works with Animal Services Bureau Administrator to identify needs and opportunities for utilization of unpaid staff, and to design programs to fill those needs.
 
Designs and develops training and orientation programs in a variety of areas including volunteer program procedures, applicable laws and department policies, techniques for dealing effectively with the public, and the proper and humane handling of animals.
 
Assists with production and update of volunteer training manuals and volunteer job descriptions.
 
Coordinates ongoing training opportunities for volunteers to enhance their skills and keep them engaged; implements a system to provide volunteers with consistent recognition to increase volunteer retention.
 
Coordinates volunteer meetings and annual Volunteer Recognition event.
 
Coordinates and attends meetings with Volunteer Coordinators from other Animal Care Services and volunteer organizations in the Bay Area.
 
Maintains good communication with volunteer staff through personal contact, email and newsletters to keep volunteers apprised of changes, accomplishments and opportunities.
 
Represents the Bureau's various programs to the public and news media through public service announcements, conferences, outreach events and personal contacts with community leaders.
 
Provides Humane Education presentations to local groups, schools and civic organizations.
 
Assists with gathering and review of articles for volunteer produced quarterly "All Fur Love" community newsletter.
 
Coordinates the acquisition and distribution of Animal Services Bureau Volunteer uniforms.
 
Coordinates and oversees volunteer planning committees for events and fundraisers.

Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
 
Experience: Two (2) years progressively responsible experience in volunteer program management, public relations, project management or similar field. At least one (1) year of professional animal handling experiences is highly desired.
 
Education: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade. Education and coursework related to Public Administration, Animal Behavior, and Veterinary Office Assisting or similar is highly desired.
 
License & Certificates: Possess and maintain a valid California Class C Driver's License.

The study reviewed the Community Development and Transportation Department’s Planning, Engineering, and Transportation divisions and aimed to identify operational efficiencies, technology improvements, and a staffing structure better aligned with the workload in order to improve efficiencies. The first step in implementing the Study’s recommendations is to hire a Director and Assistant Director, one of whom will serve as the City Engineer. The new Director, reporting to the Assistant City Manager responsible for land use and development functions, will have functional responsibility for land development, engineering, and transportation, including the City’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP), which includes utilities, civic projects, and construction inspection.

The new Engineering and Transportation Department is supported by 24 FTE and has a FY 2023-24 Capital Budget of approximately $38 million in general infrastructure and transportation projects and $13 million in utility infrastructure projects. Major projects include an impressive list of transportation projects, such as the SR84/US101 Freeway Interchange, grade separations along the Caltrain rail line, parking, and transportation demand management and Vision Zero implementation, and various traffic calming and roadway projects. POSITION

The City of Seal Beach is seeking a skilled Accounting Technician that will serve as the liaison between the City, vendors, customers, and staff regarding invoices. The Accounting Technician will process accounts payable and/or accounts receivable invoices, business expense reimbursements; warrant requisitions; and generate bank transmission files and warrant registers.  Under general supervision, performs difficult and responsible accounting support and administrative work in the Finance Department; participates in the preparation, review and adjustment of accounting records related to accounts payable, accounts receivable, purchasing, payroll, utility billing, insurance billing, budgeting, and other functions; and does related work as required.  

The ideal candidate for this position will provide excellent customer service, demonstrate strong attention to detail, and be a team player. The Accounting Technician should possess strong technical skills and have experience working with various software systems in order to analyze data and conduct research. This person should also have excellent communication, accountability, and organizational skills.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

The Accounting Technician is distinguished from accounting clerical personnel by its specialized knowledge of technical accounting methods and procedures. The Accounting Technician is differentiated from the Senior Accounting Technician, which exercises lead direction over accounting clerical staff and has responsibility for the preparation and reconciliation of a broader range of accounting and financial reports and audit schedules. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Processes Accounts Payable and/or Accounts Receivable invoices, verifies  authorization signature, and balances weekly totals. Verifies accuracy of invoices and related supporting documents.
2. Inputs and edits vendor/customer invoices, Capital Improvement Project (CIP) billings and utility billings. Verifies batch edits for accuracy, reconciles and posts batch edit reports. Researches and matches vendor invoices to receiving documents for payment.
3. Reviews, prints, and processes warrant requisitions. Ensure accounts are coded correctly and recorded.
4. Prints checks, remits payments, balances and distributes check registers. Audits check copies for errors and appropriate back-up. Matches supporting documentation with checks to validate check issuance.
5. Acts as liaison between the City and its vendors/customers. Obtains information from vendors/customers regarding statements and invoices. Provides information regarding payments and related issues. Research questions and resolves problems.
6. Processes monthly journal entries. Reviews and distributes aging reports.
7. Handles the cashiering function for all City revenue; receives payments from mail and walk-in customers; records incoming revenue for the city including utility bills, accounts receivable, invoices, collects and accounts for money; issues receipts; reconciles cash receipt batches and prepares daily deposits.
8. May support utility billing for utility service by telephone, correspondence and in person; analyze customer records to establish appropriate deposit amounts from written guidelines for new and existing utility users and prepare deposit refunds for manager approval.
9. Use various computer systems extensively to post payments; enter data of new utility customers and make data changes; interact with customers, coordinate with service and billing divisions, obtain other information to assist customers, research, and use discretion to determine deposit and restoration of service requirements.
10. Perform financial transactions including processing or transferring payments, refunding credit amounts or deposits, adjusting charges and/or deposits, reversing payments, issuing refunds, and adjusting service fees.
11. Reviews and adjusts accounting and budgeting entries; assures that proper account numbers, rates and deductions, purchase orders, or payment information has been provided.
12. May audit fee payments and aging reports for cash and electronic transactions.
13. May conduct business research to identify entities requiring licenses, including analysis of sales records, tax returns, and other data sources.
14. May train other accounting and office personnel regarding accounting procedures.
15. May perform other duties as assigned.

The Department of Public Works is currently recruiting to fill a Communications Technician position for the Radio Communications Shop. The Radio Communications shop maintains the communication system for the City of San José that is used by multiple departments, such as: Police, Fire, Department of Transportation, Parks Recreation Neighborhood Services (Park Rangers), and Public Works (Animal Care & Services).

The City of San José public safety and city services depend upon the use of commercial radio communications equipment. For police officers and firefighters, radio communications are the primary means of communicating with the 9-1-1 dispatch center in performing their duties. These vast stand-alone radio systems with fault-tolerant designs are essential to providing the public with reliable emergency response services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year with demand for system survivability through any catastrophic event.

The key responsibilities of the Communications Technician may include:

     * Installation, maintenance and repair of mobile and portable radios, base and control stations, microwave systems, dispatch consoles, voting receivers and comparators, digital Microwave system and P25 LMR systems.

     * Respond to trouble reports, perform preventative maintenance and project assignments. Update technical documentation including wiring block assignments, CEB programming and configurations, as-built drawings of installed equipment at City radio sites, specialized vehicular installations, and diagrams of the City's various communications systems.

The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Associate Transportation Engineer in the Transportation Division of the Public Works Department! 

When assigned to development review, you will have the opportunity to review residential, commercial, industrial and public works project plans, traffic impact reports, and other development and design related documents for compliance with City of Berkeley standards and regulations including all applicable local, state, and federal codes and guidelines; evaluate and recommend mitigation measures to address adverse impacts of development projects; review plan checks for small developments; and review traffic control plans for construction projects.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is:

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university with major course work in civil or traffic engineering and five years of increasingly responsible traffic engineering experience, three years of which were at a level equivalent to the Assistant Transportation Engineer class. Progressively responsible related experience may be substituted for the college course work on a year for year basis.

Other requirements include possession of a valid California Registration as a professional Traffic Engineer or a professional Civil Engineer. A CA Registration as a Traffic Engineer is preferred. Candidates must also possess a valid California driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record. Under the direction of the Chief People Officer, the Human Resources (HR) Compliance Manager oversees and coordinates agencywide compliance related to federal, state and local regulations on drug and alcohol testing, driver’s license, medical certifications and substance abuse programs, as they apply to safety sensitive positions.  The HR Compliance Manager will be primarily responsible for managing, organizing and directing the work of the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency’s (SFMTA) HR compliance programs, which include License & Medical compliance and the Substance Abuse Program.

Examples of Important and Essential Duties:

• Plans, organizes, directs and evaluates the work of the License & Medical and Substance Program and staff to ensure the operations and services are effectively integrated with the operations of other divisions.
• Responsible for program management over the Drug & Alcohol (D&A) Program to include all policies and testing in accordance with the SFMTA Policy and Federal Transit Administration regulations.
• Oversees the program to ensure that implementation is handled properly throughout the Agency.
• Responsible for submitting the annual Management Information System (MIS) data.
• Oversees contractor D&A program compliance and oversight.

Additional qualifying experience in Human Resources or Mass Transit as described above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.  One year (2000 hours) will be considered equivalent to 30-semester units/forty-five (45) quarter units.

We provide the training and tools necessary for you to learn to respond to emergency and non-emergency calls including dispatching police officers to calls for services and operate a variety of communication equipment such as radios, telephones, and computer systems.

Working shifts for this position consist of a 10-hour days/4 days a week (varied) work schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays. Schedules rotate every four months and may change to 12-hour days/3 days a week when needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

Position Summary

 

Under general supervision, operates a variety of transit vehicles to transport passengers along specific, assigned routes according to the District's requirements.  Provide service in a safe, courteous and reliable manner.   Responsible for written reports and other information as required.  Upon completion of the Golden Gate Transit Training Program, the employee operates regularly scheduled assignments.  All runs will originate in either Santa Rosa, Novato or San Rafael.

Hourly Pay: $30.23/hour to $35.57/hour


 If selected for the position, new hires will need to complete Golden Gate Bridge, Highway & Transportation District’s Bus Operator Apprenticeship Program ($30.23/hr benefits not included) which is approximately twelve (12) weeks, Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Upon successful completion of training: $32.01 per hour, plus benefits. All new hires will be required to complete a 120 probationary period upon completion of training.

Essential Responsibilities

 

• Transports passengers along assigned routes, making designated stops as required or requested.
• Uses the fare box to accurately collect fares, issues transfers and gives general information.
• Completes reports on patron count, non-scheduled mileage, vehicular deficiencies, fare box, accidents and other reports as required.
• Operates automatic lift on buses and assists passengers in wheelchairs, those using crutches or walkers, or who have speech or mental difficulty.
• Ensures that Driver’s license and all other documents required of a commercial licensee are maintained and are current and valid.
• Knows and follows the safety and health rules and safe working practices applicable to his or her job.
• Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with District employees, customers, vendors and all others contacted during the course of work using principles of excellent customer service. 
• Performs additional related duties as assigned. 
• Regular and reliable attendance and performance are required.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

• No experience is necessary. 
• Must be a licensed driver for at least seven (7) years prior to the date of this posting. Candidates who are currently enrolled in the Bus Operator Pre-Apprenticeship Program and a licensed driver for at least 3 years are eligible to apply, pending successful completion of the pre-apprenticeship program. 
• Satisfactory Driving Record (as stated below).
• Must pass the Student Bus Driver Training program and Probationary period.
