This application is for non-benefited, part-time employment only. The candidate will fill staffing vacancies as needed and will be required to work days, evenings, weekends and/or holidays. Schedule may vary and incumbent must be available to work flexible hours.
Ideal Candidate
The City of Burlingame is accepting applications for a part-time, 18 hours per week Library Aide. Must be available to work a schedule that includes combination of day, evening and weekend shifts. Must be able to work one evening and one weekend day per week.
The Library Aide performs various routine and repetitive tasks relating to the maintenance of the library collection. Duties include shelving, sorting, filing and shifting of books, periodicals and other library materials. Maintains library reading rooms, stacks and other areas in clean order. Library Aides may process materials returned from circulation, including checking in the daily delivery on the computer system and moving boxes of books and other materials. May be asked to back up Circulation staff and assist in a variety of special projects and services as needed. Library Aides work in all divisions of the Library, including Circulation, Children's, Technical Services, Reference and the Easton Branch.
ABILITY TO:
Communicate and interact effectively and cooperatively with employees and library users of all ages; work under pressure of heavy service demands; be flexible in work scheduling; work as part of a team; remain calm when dealing with difficult situations and difficult people, handling situations with tact and firmness. Ability to stoop, bend and crouch to retrieve materials and books; lift books or other materials weighing up to 40 pounds; sit, stand and walk for long periods of time; push a fully loaded book truck; climb stairs. Hear and see well enough to perform the above duties.
SALARY & BENEFITS:
The salary range for this position is $17.03-$23.02 per hour. This position is a temporary, part-time position and part of Healthy Workplaces/Healthy Families Act: California Paid Sick Leave Benefit, as amended effective 1/1/2024. This benefit accrues at the rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked and is available after 90 days of employment. The maximum use of paid sick leave is 40 hours in a one-year period. There is no cash value associated with benefit. There is no guarantee of hours and employment may end at any time. This position is at will and is not part of the City's Civil Service System.
