About The Position:

The County of Yuba is actively recruiting to establish an eligibility list for the position of Deputy Sheriff-Lateral. Deputy Sheriff’s perform a wide variety of patrol officer and related duties required to effectively respond to and resolve the normal scope of peace situations, including the protection of life and property, enforcement of laws and ordinances, criminal investigation, report writing, crime prevention and suppression, case preparation and testimony, and providing information and assistance to the public and perform related duties as assigned. Incumbents may be assigned to a specific geographic area for patrol, investigations, crime prevention or other peace officer-related functions.

The San Rafael Public Library is accepting applications for Substitute Librarians and Substitute Library Assistants to work in our San Rafael Public Libraries, including Downtown (1100 E Street), Pickleweed (50 Canal Street), and Northgate (5800 Northgate Drive, Ste. 083).  We are looking for people who are available on call, weekends, or other limited shifts.  This is a great opportunity for those interested in working at both a downtown and neighborhood branch libraries, as well as those excited by providing library services to a diverse community.  These are temporary positions, limited to 1,000 hours worked within a fiscal year (July 1 thru June 30) and receive no City benefits.

Substitute Librarians perform professional-level library public service work, including answering reference questions, providing readers’ advisory, providing technical assistance, and presenting programs (as needed).

Substitute Library Assistants perform circulation tasks such as checking materials in and out, and work at the public service desk, assisting patrons with basic requests including answering simple questions, creating new patron accounts, and referring patrons to other staff for more complex questions. 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Substitute Librarians:

• Knowledge of Library Services and reference materials; readers advisory; professional practices and techniques of library science; and on-line library systems and information resources.
• Masters in library science issued by a college or university accredited by the American Library Association is preferred.
• Ability to work and effectively communicate with a diverse range of patrons.
• Bilingual in Spanish desired.

Substitute Library Assistants:

• Knowledge of basic office practices and procedures, including the operation of standard office equipment; alphabetical, numerical, and topical filing systems; material organization and structure of libraries; including categories of materials and general arrangement; library technical services terminology and equipment including on-line databases.
• Experience working in public libraries preferred.
• Ability to work and effectively communicate with a diverse range of patrons.
• Bilingual in Spanish desired.

The County of Yuba is currently recruiting for the position of Public Health Nurse Intern/Public Health Nurse in the Health and Human Services Department. This position provides the full range of public health nursing services including teaching, health assessment, and counseling services in homes, clinics, schools and community centers in connection with the prevention and control of diseases and adverse health conditions. Public Health Nurses are assigned to specific programs such as Maternal, Child and Adolescent Health, California Children’s Services, Child Health and Disability Prevention, Foster Care and communicable disease control. Performs related work as assigned.

Public Health Nurse Intern: is a recruiting and training level class established to qualify candidates for duties as a PHN in Yuba County Health & Human Services Department. Under close supervision, incumbents learn and perform a variety of public health nursing duties in assigned program areas while pursuing a Public Health Nurse Certification. Upon satisfactory completion of the PHN Certification, the PHN Intern are eligible for promotion to the level of PHN. Incumbents who do not successfully complete the PHN certification as prescribed herein may be released from employment.

Public Health Nurse: is the entry level in this class series. Initially under close supervision, incumbents learn and perform a variety of public health nursing duties in assigned program areas. As experience is gained, assignments become more complex and are performed under more general supervision.

THE DEPARTMENT

The American Canyon Police Department provides first response services to all forms of emergencies and crises.  The Department provides public safety by enforcing the Penal Code, Health and Safety Code, Vehicle Code, and local ordinances.  American Canyon Police Department is comprised of 24 sworn peace officers, two non-sworn Police Technicians, and an Administrative Clerk.

THE POSITION

The Police Technician performs a variety of non-sworn, administrative and field support tasks associated with law enforcement support services, which may include property and evidence collection, crime prevention, parking enforcement, vehicle abatement, and community relations; to maintain confidential and highly sensitive records related to police activities; and to perform a variety of tasks relative to assigned areas of responsibility.

This is a high-profile position with frequent interactions with community members in often difficult circumstances. The quality of the work performed in this role is reflective of the standards of the Department and the City. This is a uniformed, civilian position that does not require peace officer status. However, a detailed background investigation, medical exam and drug screening is required due to the sensitive nature of the work involved.

This position is not designated for retired annuitants.

THE POSITION

Typical duties performed by a Police Technician may include, but are not limited to, the following:
 

• Patrol areas of the City to identify and resolve parking violations and traffic hazards and enforce applicable laws; respond to citizen complaints regarding parking and abandoned vehicle laws; tag and arrange transportation of abandoned vehicles.
• Provide assistance, information and directions to motorists; assist in the coordination of Police Service support for special events in the community; provide traffic control at local schools.
• Respond to non-emergency calls and service requests; take information from citizens and prepare crime reports for non-active calls; interview victims, suspects and witnesses, as directed, and provide referral information.
• Assist with Neighborhood Watch meetings and other crime prevention activities; provide information to interested citizens on neighborhood alert procedures; assist in coordinating crime prevention public displays.
• Collect, receive, and safeguard property/evidence; maintain evidence chain-of-custody records; transport evidence to Sheriff’s Department, Department of Justice, and outside crime lab.
• Coordinate public education, safety and prevention programs, and community outreach activities related to assigned responsibilities.
• Serve as liaison between court staff and Police Officers; assist Police Officers with follow-up evidence requests from the District Attorney’s Office. 
• Log and distribute subpoenas to officers and citizens.
• Receive calls; respond to citizen’s questions and complaints within established guidelines; distribute calls for officer assistance to communications centers; take and relay messages to department personnel as required.
• Handle the abandoned vehicle program to include locating and citing abandoned vehicles and overseeing the towing away of the vehicle.
• Coordinate various crime prevention, volunteer, and community policing programs.
• Research and compile statistical data.
• Assist Police Officers with vehicle and person searches.
• Drive a City vehicle to respond to citizen/officer requests; assist and support patrol division in the performance of their duties in the field.
• Assist with coordination of fleet maintenance and daily fueling of vehicles. 
• Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner.
• Complete special projects as assigned.
• Perform general administrative support functions; type letters, forms, memoranda, and reports; transcribe police reports and notes; operate a computer system to enter/retrieve/transfer data; copy materials; maintain filing systems, screen, sort, and distribute mail; order and maintain office supplies and equipment.
• Assist Police department personnel as needed.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

The Position:  This is the non-sworn, trainee-level class in the Police Officer series. Incumbents earn an hourly wage while attending a basic POST certified training academy to obtain the basic skills and fitness level necessary for performance of Police Officer duties. Employment in this classification is contingent upon maintaining enrollment in a POST approved academy for which they are enrolled. Advancement to the sworn Police Officer level is based on successful graduation from the academy, meeting minimum qualification standards, availability of police officer positions within the City, and is at the discretion of the Police Chief.

THE POSITION:

The City of San Rafael Police Department is seeking to fill the full-time exempt position of Senior Management Analyst II (Advanced Professional Temp). This is a three (3) year fixed-term position, with the potential to be extended dependent on available funding and job performance.  This is an “at will” position with benefits available.  Employment may be terminated with or without cause or notice, at any time by the City of San Rafael. 

 The Senior Management Analyst (Advanced Professional Temp) will support the work of the newly formed Police Advisory and Accountability Committee (PAAC).  

This position performs the following essential job duties (including but not limited to):

• Manages community concerns of the PAAC.
• Supports the public meeting process including coordinating agenda items for public meetings, memorializing meeting minutes and any actions taken by the PAAC.
• Supports the PAAC Chair in the facilitation of the meeting process for this new committee. 
• Analyze, research, and prepare reports based on data analysis.
• Assess and examine public safety best practices.
• Provides administrative support between meetings and in preparation for public meetings.
• Performs related duties as required.

To be eligible for this position, you must have knowledge of:

• Methods of research, program analysis, and report preparation.
• State legislative procedures.

• Public relations and relationship building.

• Five years or more of experience performing increasingly complex, professional analytical work with a high degree of autonomy.

The County of Yuba is currently recruiting to fill two vacancies and to establish an employment list for the classification of Social Worker II. Under general supervision, incumbents perform moderately complex social services case work by providing a variety of services to County residents; conducting field visits; identifying, assessing and arranging alternative solutions to clients’ needs and obstacles; carry a moderately complex caseload; prepare and monitor plans; prepare court reports, depending on area of assignment; and perform related work as assigned. The work may be related to a specific program area or to more general social service benefit provision. Social Worker II is the journey-level in the social work series. This position reports directly to a Social Worker Supervisor II or other higher-level supervisor or manager.

Example of Duties:

• Interview and counsel a diverse population of clients; isolate barriers to self-sufficiency; and evaluate need for services and/or make appropriate referrals to training, public assistance and social services programs.
• Perform case management of moderately complex cases.
• Conduct field/home visits, assessments, and reassessments as required to monitor and investigate progress and compliance

This is the non-sworn, entry-level classification in the Police Officer series. Incumbents in this classification receive training in a controlled classroom environment.  Advancement to the sworn Police Officer position is based on meeting minimum qualification standards and satisfactory performance in the academy.
