The County of San Mateo Public Works Department is seeking highly motivated and hardworking individuals to join their team as Road Maintenance Workers. There are multiple vacancies to be filled throughout the department.

The Road Maintenance Division of County of San Mateo's Department of Public Works is responsible for routine and emergency repairs to over 315 miles of road surfaces, culverts, shoulders, drainage facilities, and roadside vegetation on roads within the public right-of-way of San Mateo County's unincorporated districts.

Road Maintenance Workers perform a variety of heavy manual labor tasks including:
 

• Digging and clearing ditches.
• Trimming and removing vegetation along the roadways.
• Trimming trees.
• Cleaning catch basins.
• Patching streets, repairing potholes.
• Repairing winter damage from slides and slip outs.
   

The ideal candidate will have:
 

• Experience performing road maintenance and repair duties requiring strength, agility, and endurance.
• Experience in underground construction and/or working in a Public Works agency.
• A Class A driver's license
• Experience with tree climbing.
   

Work Schedule

Road Maintenance Workers work 10-hour shifts, four-days per week (either Monday through Thursday or Tuesday through Friday) and must be willing to work overtime. New employees may be assigned to work from the Grant Corporation Yard in Redwood City or one of the three Coast Side Yards (Princeton, Pescadero, or La Honda).

Examples Of Duties

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Road maintenance and construction
 

• Dig, level, slope, shovel, sweep and remove debris from drainage ditches and culverts.
• Prepare and patch holes in paved and unpaved areas.
• Shovel, rake, roll and smooth asphalt and gravel in patching work.
• Cut, trim, and dispose of brush and weeds.
• Cut, trim, and remove tree limbs and fallen trees.
• Prepare ground for and lay concrete and culvert pipe.
• Slope and prepare road shoulders and banks for seeding.
• Dig ditches for and install culvert pipe.
• Act as safety flag-person.
• Assist Construction Carpenter/Mason in the building of concrete forms.
• Maintain guard rails and shoulders.
• Load and unload trucks.
• Drive and operate construction and road maintenance equipment such ½- and 1-ton trucks, oil trailer, haul behind compressor, crew cab, cone truck, signs and legends truck and ride-on rollers.
   

Storm drain maintenance
 

• Perform inspections of storm drains.
• Rod and flush storm drain systems to remove obstructions.
• Operate pumps to remove debris from damaged or clogged lines.
• Clean catch basins.
• Cut and refinish streets, sidewalks, and driveways; lay cement and asphalt.
• Repair and reconstruct damaged sections of storm drain lines.
• Inspect, repair and construct manholes.
• Operate walk-behind roller.
• Make minor repairs to pumps and other equipment.
• Patrol assigned areas and check drainage pipe, storm drains, and road gates for debris and other potential hazards.
• Drive and operate construction and road maintenance equipment such ½- and 1-ton trucks, oil trailer, haul behind compressor, and walk-behind rollers.
   

Qualifications

Education and Experience : Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is one year of construction, inspection, or maintenance experience.

Licensure/Certification: Possession of a class C California driver license or equivalent.

The Department of Public Works is seeking well-qualified applicants for the position of Capital Projects Manager I to join a diverse team of hard-working and dedicated construction professionals.

Capital Projects Managers spearhead a diverse array of construction and capital improvement initiatives. This pivotal role entails managing the lifecycle of essential facility constructions, including major building remodels, renovations, upgrades, and tenant improvements, from the initial planning stages through to completion and the warranty period.

Positioned at the first level of the Capital Projects Manager series, the Capital Projects Manager I role involves managing various projects with distinct budgeted costs, deadlines, and levels of political sensitivity and visibility. This position will exercise discretion and latitude of judgement within established policies and communicate project information orally and in writing with department heads, Board members, the County Executive, heads of other governmental agencies, contractors, county staff, and the public.

Under general supervision, the Capital Projects Manager I will:

• Perform construction and capital improvement project management work involving the planning, design, bidding, and construction of assigned capital facility construction and major building remodel, renovation, upgrade, and tenant improvement projects.
• Integrate all phases of work, from the initial planning stages to the completion of construction and warranty period.
• Manage simultaneous capital improvement and major maintenance projects with varying budgeted costs, completion deadlines, and levels of political sensitivity and visibility.

Taking on the role of project leader, the Capital Projects Manager I will oversee all the elements of a project, from initial scope development, to assembling the right team to execute the work, to ensuring the project runs smoothly.

• Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a major in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a closely related field.
• Experience: Three years of experience as a construction superintendent, project manager, or estimator for commercial or industrial construction, or as a superintendent of buildings and grounds for large complexes, or as a construction contract administrator in a public agency.

The City of Foster City is looking for an experienced Associate Engineer with a passion for public service. This position will provide exposure to large-scale projects and community engagement and performs engineering work on the following types of capital improvement projects:  buildings, parks, levee, storm water systems, lagoon, streets, traffic signals, water distribution systems, and wastewater collection systems.

We are seeking highly skilled individuals with the competence and experience to address challenges with confidence and professionalism. Individuals that demonstrates skills in any of the following areas: land development, transportation/traffic engineering, and storm system management. Independently management for the design and constriction of capital improvement projects and AutoCAD experience are highly desirable. 

Education and Experience
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in engineering or a directly related field, and three (3) years of professional experience in civil engineering work including project design, plan checking, and project management.

Licenses and Certifications

• Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a valid Class C California driver’s license upon appointment.
• Possession of a valid Certificate of Registration as a Civil Engineer in the State of California, desirable.

Selection Process
Applications will be reviewed for relevant education, experience, training and other job related qualifications. Based upon a review of employment applications and supplemental questionnaires received, a limited number of the qualified applicants will be invited to participate in the examination process. 

The process will consist of an Oral Panel Interview. An eligibility list will be established from those who pass the examination process with a score of 70% or higher. As a technical manager, this position will be responsible for overseeing infrastructure service and day-to-day operations for the City's Emergency Operation Center (EOC).

The Infrastructure and Operations Support Manager, Emergency Operations Center supports the essential technologies needed to operate the City's EOC in disasters, including the core network infrastructure, computing servers, storage, enterprise applications, collaboration tools, Mobile Device Management (MDM), and Motorola Computer Dispatch workstations. The EOC technologies include a multi-layer redundant/backup network connectivity with a localized data center, servers, and storage. This allows the EOC's technology services available during large-scale emergency events.

This position requires strong technical hands-on experience and leadership skills as well as the ability to take initiative and direct others. We are seeking an individual with a willingness to adapt to an ever-changing business as well as an ever-changing technical environment.

The ideal candidate must be able to take full ownership of managing and delegating the services of IT infrastructure, business collaboration tools, and City applications to support the EOC and lead projects to completion. Infrastructure operations include identity management, private and public cloud infrastructure, server virtualization, system management, and monitoring, client and server Windows Operating Systems and client applications, etc. Business collaboration tools include Microsoft Office 365 Productivity Suite, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, related Office 365 Suite offerings, Zoom, etc. City applications include GIS, desktop applications, etc. This position demands a proven ability to resolve complex technical issues with limited resources. A strong leadership mindset, the ability to collaborate well with teams, and a strong civil servant mentality are essential to this position.

The Infrastructure and Operations Support Manager for the Emergency Operations Center is a member of the IT Department with a mission to support the EOC. The work plan defines the business requirements with priorities set by the Office of Emergency Management. As a member of the EOC response team, the Infrastructure and Operations Support Manager, Emergency Operations Center will need to be available onsite to support the emergency event. Work hours during an emergency event could be after the City's business hours or on the weekend.

Duties may include but are not limited to:

• Providing technical leadership for the City's enterprise infrastructure which includes: network, servers, hyperconverged infrastructure, desktops and mobile devices, Active Directory, VPN, Federation Service, Public/Private Cloud support, enterprise storage, system management and monitoring, enterprise system backups and restore, as well as Disaster Recovery of EOC IT services.
• Leading advanced troubleshooting and triage responsibilities for infrastructure issues to ensure service availability to meet service level expectations.
• Validating and managing system configuration changes to ensure successful system upgrades and configuration changes to the production environment.
• Developing technical guidelines and governance framework to ensure best practices and security.
• Triaging, leading, and resolving advanced infrastructure issues and service outages.

• Coordinating communication and IT service needs with Public Safety and departments.

Salary Information: The final candidate's qualifications and experience shall determine the actual salary. In addition to the starting salary, employees in the Enterprise Supervising Technology Analyst (ESTA) classification shall also receive an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation pay.

ABOUT THE POSITION
The City of Gilroy is recruiting an undergraduate or graduate-level City Administration College Intern for the summer of 2024. THE POSITION:  The City of San Mateo’s Community Development Department has an opportunity for an intern to work on a number of projects. The Department, which has about 55 full time employees, includes the Building, Housing, Planning, Code Enforcement, & Business/Admin Divisions. The Management Analyst Intern will primarily support the Housing and Business/Admin Divisions and receive primary supervision from the Department’s Business Manager and Housing Manager, and project specific direction from the supervisor/manager primarily responsible for each specific project. The duration and start date of the internship are flexible, though summer interns typically start between mid-May and Mid-June. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  
•    BA/BS or Masters Candidate 
•    Strong analytical, writing and verbal skills; effective written and oral communication
•    Experience conducting research and data analyses
•    Able to work independently with direction from supervisor
•    Interest in learning more about a career in local government

DUTIES: The primary projects will most likely include the following: 
•    Market Research / Data Analysis. Support the research and help prepare findings report on fee schedules across multiple jurisdictions to help the Business Manager prepare for the 2025 comprehensive fee study. 
•    Contracts / Grant Administration. Support the Housing Division Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and Permanent Local Housing Allocation (PLHA) administration of contracts and grant funds for nonprofit recipients.
•    Housing Element Compliance / Certification. Support the Housing Division with implementation of Housing Element policies and programs.
•    Community Relations Commission Support. Support the Community Relations Commission, under the direction of the commission liaison, in coordinating commission meeting, preparing documents for commission review, and preparing commission documents for approval and filing with the City Clerk.

In addition, the intern may work on a variety of other projects to support Community Development Department special projects and operations, depending upon need, availability and interest.
