THE POSITION:

Under general direction by management staff or the Director of Library Services, the Librarian II performs a variety of professional and para-professional duties in support of a modern library and community learning center.

Librarian II: Technology Services: 

 

The Technology Services Librarian will have primary responsibility for overseeing all in-house technology in the Downtown Library and Weekes Branch, including: 
 

• Coordinating the Library’s Makerspace, Digital Media Lab, and Public Computer Lab, including providing tech support to public and staff computers.  
• Serving as the liaison to the City IT department 
• Working with library vendors to curate and manage the library’s e-resources, including e-books and databases.  
• Supervising staff assigned to the Tech Lab, Makerspace, Digital Media Lab, and Public Computer Lab. 
• Serving as manager in charge in the absence of senior managers.  

 

 Librarian II: Marketing and Outreach:
 

The Marketing and Outreach Librarian will have primary responsibility for overseeing the library’s Outreach Division, which includes:  

 

• Coordinating the library’s bookmobile and techmobile services, and community hub.  
• Coordinating library marketing, including social media, newsletters, and the library’s website.  
• Coordinating off-site and on-site programming and collaboration requests.  
• Serving as the liaison to the City’s Publicity/PR Department 
• Supervising staff assigned to outreach services.  
• Serving as manager in charge in the absence of senior managers.  

Librarian II: Education Services:
 

The Education Services Librarian II will have primary responsibility for coordinating the library’s Education Services Division, which includes:  

 

• Program development and implementation of cradle to senior programs in collaboration with community partners.  
• Early childhood development programming, K-12 after-school support programs, adult literacy, summer programming, and citizenship programming.  
• Serving as a liaison to schools and institutions of higher learning.  
• Overseeing multiple federal and state grants.  
• Supervising staff assigned to the Education Services division.  
• Serving as manager in charge in the absence of senior managers.

 Essential Duties:

What you will do:  

Duties may include but are not limited to the following:
 
Plans, organizes, directs and coordinates the functions of a major service area of the library.

Makes recommendations on selection and withdrawal of books, periodicals, display materials, and audio or video or e-materials by reading reviews, and other sources, and keeping up with current trends and making recommendations to the Director of Library Services.
 
Performs reference and readers advisory work in person, by telephone or other communication means, by verifying the patrons' needs through the reference interview process, and answering questions or exploring alternative sources of information such as other resources, agencies and libraries.

Updates factual material and coordinates loan services with other libraries. Assesses technology needs, evaluates system needs and makes recommendations for purchasing or improving equipment and programs based on current industry standards.
 
Serves as a liaison to the IT department for testing and supporting computer devices, library software, and infrastructure needs; provides basic technical assistance to library staff and patrons; and plans technology related training and programming for staff and the public.
 
Independently performs complex cataloging and classification review and related activities as assigned.
 
Directs or participates in community programs such as library tours for community groups, special programs for children and adults including technology services and on-site visits to the library.
 
Attends job-related meetings such as weekly staff meetings, Bay Area Library Information Systems meetings and/or other area meetings.
 
Prepares and submits performance evaluations on staff.

Prepares and submits timely and informative reports on projects as needed, including recommendations regarding resources and budgetary needs.

The Environmental Services Department is currently seeking to hire three (3) Associate Engineer positions:1 (one) vacancy at Water Resources Division is located at 3025 Tuers Road, San Jose and 2 (two) vacancies at Capital Improvement Project (CIP) division is located at 700 Los Esteros Road, San Jose.

About the Water Resources Division: The Water Resources Division is comprised of three sections: Municipal Water System, South Bay Water Recycling, and Operations and Maintenance. Associate Engineer Position at South Bay Water Recycling (SBWR) Section

The SBWR section is responsible for system operation and maintenance engineering support, and design and construction of the SBWR Recycling Water System pipeline and facilities. This includes managing the water quality programs, and supporting the conservation program, providing development related support services, ensuring availability of recycling water supply, capital improvements, construction inspection, and engineering support to operations and maintenance. Typical duties for the position include but are not limited to:

• Supervises staff including prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff is trained; making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations.Prepares engineering plans, details, project schedule, engineer's cost estimates and specifications.

• Represents the City with contractors, consulting firms, DDW, EPA, Regional Water Quality Control Board, and other water quality and environmental regulating bodies, as required, and at public meetings concerning City policy on engineering projects.
• Oversees and prepares plan documents, including but not limited to, Assembling and reviewing plans and specifications for conformance. directs the inspection of major engineering projects, prepares bid documents, solicits bids, facilitates award of contracts, administers the contract, interprets plans and specifications, resolves field problems, gives final inspection, and follows through with acceptance of the project.

Associate Engineer Position at Capital Improvement Program

The Capital Project Delivery section has a wide variety of responsibilities, including preparing and/or reviews designs, improvement plans, condition assessments, feasibility studies, construction estimates, specifications, and contract documents for capital improvement projects that are prepared by subordinates and/or consultants engaged by the City. Typical duties for the position include but are not limited to:

• Manages capital improvement projects from concept development to completion, i.e., overseeing, controlling, and guiding projects.
• Prepares engineering plans, project schedule, engineer's cost estimates and specifications.
• Negotiates, drafts, and manages consultant agreements and/or construction contracts.
• Supervises staff including work prioritization, performance evaluations, training and involvement in hiring and disciplinary processes.

The person spearheading this is the Public Works Director. • Maintain clear and accurate records of maintenance tasks performed and status of District facilities.
• Develop and maintain a spare parts inventory of basic maintenance hand and power tools.
• Maintain open communications with other departments; develop and maintain effective internal relationships. Maintain a safe and clean work environment.
• Must participate in weekend and holiday on-call rotation.
• Safely operate a variety of maintenance vehicles.
• Perform all job duties and responsibilities in a safe manner to protect one’s self, fellow employees and the public from injury or harm. Promote safety awareness and follow safety procedures in an effort to reduce or eliminate accidents.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION: Works under the general supervision of the Assistant Manager, Facilities, who establishes goals and objectives and evaluates performance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Sufficient experience, training and/or education to demonstrate the knowledge and ability to successfully perform the essential functions of the position. In lieu of a degree, work-related experience that demonstrates the skills and experience necessary to perform this role will be accepted. Development of the required knowledge and abilities is typically obtained through but not limited to:
• High School Diploma or GED
• Three (3) years full-time industrial building/facility maintenance experience, or a combination of education and experience demonstrating the ability to successfully perform the essential functions of the position.
• Must have valid California driver’s license with a safe driving record.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• General experience troubleshooting electrical systems, heating and cooling (HVAC) systems, plumbing, and hydraulic systems.
• Able to work safely in different kinds of weather conditions and workspace environments.
• Able to safely lift 50lbs and climb/work on ladders and other equipment.

The City of Foster City is looking for an experienced Associate Engineer with a passion for public service. This position will provide exposure to large-scale projects and community engagement and performs engineering work on the following types of capital improvement projects:  buildings, parks, levee, storm water systems, lagoon, streets, traffic signals, water distribution systems, and wastewater collection systems.

Independently management for the design and constriction of capital improvement projects and AutoCAD experience are highly desirable. 

Education and Experience
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in engineering or a directly related field, and three (3) years of professional experience in civil engineering work including project design, plan checking, and project management.

Licenses and Certifications

• Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a valid Class C California driver’s license upon appointment.
• Possession of a valid Certificate of Registration as a Civil Engineer in the State of California, desirable.

Selection Process
Applications will be reviewed for relevant education, experience, training and other job related qualifications. Based upon a review of employment applications and supplemental questionnaires received, a limited number of the qualified applicants will be invited to participate in the examination process. 

The process will consist of an Oral Panel Interview. An eligibility list will be established from those who pass the examination process with a score of 70% or higher. The City of Redwood City invites applications for Tree Maintenance Worker I/II. 

THE POSITION

The current opening is in the Street Tree Maintenance section of the Public Works Services department and provides an excellent opportunity for growth in the field of Right-of-Way maintenance.  The Tree Maintenance Worker I/II is expected to perform a variety of semi-skilled work involving trimming, removal, installation and general maintenance of trees.

LIBRARIAN III, ADULT SERVICES-CENTRAL SANTA ROSA LIBRARY 

40 HOURS PER WEEK – FULL TIME

 
We are seeking a customer service driven library professional with excellent communication skills to  supervise the Adult Services department at the Central Santa Rosa Library. The ideal candidate will have strong outreach, technical, and training skills and be willing to work in a sometimes fast-paced and often vibrant “all ages” environment.

Under general supervision, this full-time, benefited position develops and participates in the full range of routine to complex professional library services for the community, including the development of programs and services; identification of current community needs and the projection of future needs; and performs related work as assigned.
 
TYPICAL TASKS include, but are not limited to: 

• Participates in budget preparation and administration; prepares cost estimates for budget recommendations; submits justifications for budget items; monitors and controls expenditures; performs grant-writing activities for assigned specialized area.
• Provides supervision to professional, technical, and paraprofessional staff and volunteers.
• Provides assistance to and advises patrons in the effective use of Library collection, facilities and services; demonstrates the use of library resources, tools, equipment, and electronic reference sources; assists with digital downloads.
• Performs outreach to the community, community organizations, and schools; informs community members and organizations about library services, programs, and collections to generate public support for library and fundraising efforts.
• Takes the lead in anticipating changes in community needs and changing technology and information services, and plans how to address needs and implement changes.
• Acts as the Person-in-Charge, including making responsible and appropriate decisions based upon patron and branch or unit needs.
• May participate in circulation functions at a public service desk as needed.
