The City of Redwood City invites applications for Tree Maintenance Worker I/II. 

THE POSITION

The current opening is in the Street Tree Maintenance section of the Public Works Services department and provides an excellent opportunity for growth in the field of Right-of-Way maintenance.  The Tree Maintenance Worker I/II is expected to perform a variety of semi-skilled work involving trimming, removal, installation and general maintenance of trees.

A few typical responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Prune trees and shrubbery to provide clearance of streets, sidewalks, signs, and lights and as necessary to insure continued health of the plant.
• Climb trees or operate aerial lift truck.
• Remove fallen trees, dead limbs and other debris resulting from storm damage and general condition.
• Remove and grind stumps.
• Clean and maintain climbing and trimming equipment
• Plant, stake and spray trees.
• Operate chipper and drive trucks.
• Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

ABOUT THE POSITION
The Gilroy Police Department is actively seeking an undergraduate-level or graduate- level Police Administration College Intern to assist police officers and other professional staff in various divisions. The intern will perform general clerical duties related to crime analysis, youth task form and gang prevention, public safety communication, community outreach, handle confidential information, and assist with other police related projects and assignments. The Police Administration Intern will also engage and interact with the community at various local community events.

The Police Intern will work under the direction of a Police Sergeant and/or Police Captain to help streamline the needs of the multiple units in the Police Department.

VOLUNTEER WORK SCHEDULE 
Internships can start as early as May 31, 2024 and end as late as September 30, 2024. 
 
This paid internship is offered at 20 – 25 hours per week with flexible scheduling. Interns may request a schedule of their choice during standard work hours as described below. 
 
The office start and end date of the internship will be determined at the time of hire. Work hours are generally Monday – Friday between 8:00am – 5:00pm.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

• Assisting police officers and other professional staff within Police Department. 
• Prepare and produce 911 audio recordings.
• Communicating and Interacting with the community.  
• Participating in the planning of community events.  
• Develop excel spreadsheets for department permitting programs.
• Assist with other Police Department related projects and events. 

THE POSITION

The Police Captain is an at-will position and serves at the pleasure of the City Manager. Under the general direction of the Police Chief, the Police Captain plans, directs, manages, and coordinates the personnel and activities of a major division within the Police Department; assists in the development and implementation of department goals, objectives, policies, and priorities; coordinates assigned activities with other City departments, divisions, and outside agencies; serves as Acting Chief in the Police Chief's absence; provides responsible administrative support to the Police Chief; and performs related duties as assigned. Examples of duties are:

• Plans, directs, manages, coordinates, and evaluates the work of a major division of the Police Department, which may include field operations, investigations, communications, public services and programs, and administration; develops, recommends, and administers policies and procedures.
• Develops and directs the implementation of division goals, objectives, policies, and priorities; establishes, within City policy, appropriate service and staffing levels; allocates resources accordingly.
• Continuously monitors and evaluates the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures; assesses and monitors workload, administrative and support systems, and internal reporting relationships; identifies opportunities for improvement; directs the implementation of changes.
• Represents the Police Department to other City departments, elected officials, and outside agencies; explains, justifies, and supports Police Department programs, policies, and activities; negotiates and resolves sensitive, significant, and controversial issues.
• Selects, trains, motivates, and evaluates Police Department personnel; provides or coordinate staff training; works with employees to correct deficiencies; implements discipline and termination procedures.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in criminal justice, criminology , police science, public or business administration, or a closely related field;

AND

Eight (8) years of increasingly responsible experience as a sworn law enforcement officer, including at least two (2) years equivalent to a lieutenant or above.

Licenses and Certifications

• Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, a valid California Class C Driver License and a satisfactory driving record is required. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
• Possession of a California Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Management Certificate.

Working Conditions

Must be 21 years of age at time of appointment. Must be a United States citizen or a permanent resident alien who is eligible for and has applied for citizenship. Incumbents must pass a thorough background investigation.

Must be willing to work emergencies as well as evenings, weekends, and holidays. Must meet physical, psychological, and background standards established by POST as well as ongoing peace officer requirements pursuant to federal, state, and local legislation. This classification functions as a peace officer within the authority and limits of California Penal Code Sections 830.1(a) and 832.

All City of Rocklin employees are designated as Emergency Service Workers during a proclaimed emergency and may be required to perform certain emergency services at the direction of the department and/or City.

About The Position:

The County of Yuba is actively recruiting to establish an eligibility list for the position of Deputy Sheriff-Lateral. Deputy Sheriff’s perform a wide variety of patrol officer and related duties required to effectively respond to and resolve the normal scope of peace situations, including the protection of life and property, enforcement of laws and ordinances, criminal investigation, report writing, crime prevention and suppression, case preparation and testimony, and providing information and assistance to the public and perform related duties as assigned. VEHICLE ABATEMENT OFFICER - TEMPORARY (Approximately 20 hours per week)

The City is now accepting applications for the position of Vehicle Abatement Officer (Temporary) in the Police Department. Under supervision, this position will respond to complaints from the public related to abandoned vehicles; enforce municipal and vehicle codes, and parking regulations; maintain records; and perform other duties as assigned. This is a non-sworn classification responsible for enforcing parking regulations, identifying, marking and tagging abandoned vehicles, and arranging for their removal.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

A high school diploma or GED equivalent, AND six months of public contact experience

THE POSITION:

The ideal candidate for Police Officer will be an individual with a high commitment to customer service, a proven record of integrity, and the ability to work comfortably in a small-town atmosphere enjoyed by the residents of Atherton.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Must possess a valid California Class C Driver’s license and have a satisfactory driving record; POST certification to include demonstrated firearms proficiency and qualification; complete a comprehensive background investigation including a polygraph, psychological, and medical examination. 

TYPICAL DUTIES:

Applicants must be able to apply the knowledge and skills required of a sworn police officer, and display the ability to perform the following: patrol the Town in an assigned area, individually or as part of a team; provide information, directions and assistance to the public in a variety of situations; take reports and assist the public with complaints; observe, monitor and control routine and unusual traffic situations; stop motorists for various vehicle code violations, and issue traffic citations or give verbal warnings; make arrests for criminal offenses; serve warrants and subpoenas; transport individuals for medical clearance and booking at the County facility; be available to work a wide range of schedules that may include weekends, holidays, and night shifts.

COMPENSATION PACKAGE:

The current monthly salary for these positions ranges depending on the job title and experience.

Police Trainee - $8709.15 per month;  Police Officer - $10,538.83 - $12,810.01.

Benefits include California Public Employee Retirement System (CalPERS), medical, dental and vision insurance; Educational Assistance Plan (EAP); sick leave incentive and conversion plan, deferred compensation.
