ABOUT THE POSITION
The City of Gilroy is recruiting an undergraduate or graduate-level City Administration College Intern for the summer of 2024. This internship will provide a significant opportunity to gain experience and exposure and accumulate skills that are used daily in various city government programs that make substantial impacts to the community. These programs are in the areas of the City Clerks office, emergency management, economic development, public information and outreach, and other municipal administration programs and services.
 
The City Administration Intern will perform a variety of functions under the direction of the City Administrator and supervision of the Assistant to the City Administrator.

VOLUNTEER WORK SCHEDULE 
Internships can start as early as May 31, 2024 and end as late as September 30, 2024. 
 
This paid internship is offered at 15 - 25 hours per week with flexible scheduling. The selected Intern may request a schedule of their choice during standard work hours as described below. The office start and end date of the internship will be determined at the time of hire. Work hours are generally Monday – Friday between 8:00am – 5:00pm.

THE POSITION: 

The City of San Pablo is actively recruiting for a Community Services Coordinator I/II position to plan, organize, and direct services and programs within the Community Services Department for our senior population, volunteer programs and city-wide special events. Our senior programs provide opportunities for adults 50 years of age and older, to engage in active and healthy programming. The Church Lane Senior Center hosts a congregate lunch program, numerous senior focused special events, weekday door-to-door transportation service (managed by a different full-time coordinator) and drop- in programs and classes. The city hosts 10-12 city-wide special events each year that include family dances, spring egg hunt, Cinco de Mayo celebration, Movies Under the Stars, 4th of July Multi-Cultural celebration, Halloween, Veterans Day and a Winter Wonderland Festival. The Community Services Department relies heavily on volunteers for both special events and senior programs and wants to expand the volunteer recruitment and training program.

THE JOB

Responsible for the safety, supervision, discipline, and customer service of all persons using the City of Live Oak Pool facilities.  Generally, works under direct supervision of the Lifeguard Supervisor or Parks and Recreation Director.  Must be willing to work other than normal work hours and be available to work as scheduled based upon the need of the department.  Must be able to attend Pre-season training, and successfully pass a lifeguard skills review.  Must be 15 years of age or older, and wear Department of Recreation staff swimwear.  Employee may be asked to provide assistance and/or accommodations to include participants with disabilities.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

For Lifeguards and Instructors: Possession of a valid American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certificate (LGT) AND a valid CPR Certificate AND First Aid for Public Safety Personnel, California Title 22. BACKGROUND INVESTIGATIONS

PAL (Police Activities League) Program Attendants work in the formal Suisun City classification of Recreation Specialist I. Starting hourly rate will depend on qualifications. This position works on average 19 hours per week.

The Department: The Recreation, Parks and Marina Department is responsible for the operations and programs of the Suisun City Marina, the Senior Center and the Joseph A. Nelson Center, including preschool, after-school programs at various sites, recreation classes and sports leagues, community events and special event rentals.

The Position: PAL Program Attendants work with Suisun City’s PAL Program and with area teenagers ages 13-19 to implement educational and recreational activities: tutoring, sports, games, mini-excursions, competitions, contests, seminars, and special events, and provide general support to the program’s Recreation Supervisor. We’re looking for highly motivated people with a customer service orientation who genuinely enjoy helping others and who are flexible problem-solvers.

The City of Mill Valley is seeking a self-directed problem- solver with an entrepreneurial spirit, high standards of excellence, and demonstrated commitment to public service and program development.

Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor, the Recreation Coordinator II – Aquatics Safety manages the City’s Aquatics lifeguards and scheduling, including lap swim, water-walking, lifeguard certification, community CPR/First Aid classes and JR Lifeguard program.  This position also supervises all lifeguards, senior lifeguards and provides key assistance to the Recreation Supervisor on all related matters (works closely with Recreation Coordinator I- Aquatics programs to support division goals and activities).

The Aquatics & Fitness Center is a 7-day a week operation.

Recreation Coordinator II schedule may include Saturdays and Sundays and is subject to change depending on facility and supervisor needs. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Recruit, hire, manage, train, schedule, audit, discipline and evaluate staff, contractors, interns, and volunteers.
• Schedule and provide regular in-service training for aquatics staff.
• Schedule and provide regular class and certification offerings necessary to staff for the proper operation of a public pool facility.
• Manage and develop the swim lesson program to balance and meet the needs of the community and the goals of the Department.
• Plan, develop and implement programs and events.
• Evaluate the progress and effectiveness of scheduling and programming utilizing measurable outcomes.
• Coordinate with local police and fire agencies for emergency response protocols.
• Assist in the development of policies, procedures, contracts, and manuals for facility users and staff.
• Work with local organizations, businesses, school personnel, parents, and community members in developing recreational programs and activities.
• Maintain all personal certifications and be available to lifeguard, teach swim lessons, and otherwise supplement line staff when needed.
• Provide assistance and guidance to facility users, anticipate and resolve problems, provide quality customer service.
• Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

• Provide timely updates to both renters and internal stakeholders regarding rental status, payment deadlines, and any changes to rental arrangements.
• Maintain organized records of rental bookings, payments, and rental agreements, ensuring compliance with rental policies and procedures.

THE POSITION:     

Under the direction of the Pool Manager, the Assistant Pool Manager is responsible for assigned aquatic program areas, and acts as Pool Manager during the Pool Manager’s absence. The Assistant Manager assists in the direction and supervision of the staff and programs at the facility. This is an at-will, intermittent, part-time, hourly position. Work a flexible work schedule, which may include evening, weekdays, weekends and holidays

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Acts as Pool Manager in the absence of same.
• Assist with pool staff assignments and scheduling.
• Perform lifesaving practices and standards according to accepted industry standards.
• Assist with training and supervision of staff and volunteers on assigned duties.

THE POSITION:  

Under general supervision, the Shelter Volunteer Coordinator assists in the planning, organization, implementation and review of the Animal Care Volunteer Program; assists with recruiting, training, scheduling and evaluation of volunteer staff; performs community liaison functions, coordinates public relations activities; humane education programs and performs related work as required.
 

You are:

The ideal candidate will have prior experience as a volunteer coordinator working in an animal shelter. The candidate will have experience handling shelter animals and be able to train volunteers how to safely handle animals. The candidate will have experience in volunteer program development as well as the ability to analyze volunteer program data for retention. The ideal candidate will have some experience using the Chameleon software for animal management.  

Essential Duties

What you will do:   

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
 
Recruits, interviews, recommends, orients, trains and evaluates volunteers; schedules their daily work assignments and activities to assure maximum program coverage and effectiveness;
 
Ensures that all departmental procedures are followed.
 
Under direction from the Animal Services Administrator, responds to volunteer complaints and conflicts that may arise.
 
Maintains a system for tracking volunteer program hours, schedules, skills and abilities, as well as performance measures.
 
Maintains and physically organizes volunteer work areas, files and records.
 
Prepares annual report on volunteer hours and activities.

Under general direction, develops and implements policies and procedures for implementing various volunteer, shelter and community programs; works with Animal Services Bureau Administrator to identify needs and opportunities for utilization of unpaid staff, and to design programs to fill those needs.
 
Designs and develops training and orientation programs in a variety of areas including volunteer program procedures, applicable laws and department policies, techniques for dealing effectively with the public, and the proper and humane handling of animals.
 
Assists with production and update of volunteer training manuals and volunteer job descriptions.
 
Coordinates ongoing training opportunities for volunteers to enhance their skills and keep them engaged; implements a system to provide volunteers with consistent recognition to increase volunteer retention.
 
Coordinates volunteer meetings and annual Volunteer Recognition event.
 
Coordinates and attends meetings with Volunteer Coordinators from other Animal Care Services and volunteer organizations in the Bay Area.
 
Maintains good communication with volunteer staff through personal contact, email and newsletters to keep volunteers apprised of changes, accomplishments and opportunities.
 
Represents the Bureau's various programs to the public and news media through public service announcements, conferences, outreach events and personal contacts with community leaders.

Coordinates the acquisition and distribution of Animal Services Bureau Volunteer uniforms.

You have:   

Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
 
Experience: Two (2) years progressively responsible experience in volunteer program management, public relations, project management or similar field. At least one (1) year of professional animal handling experiences is highly desired.
 
Education: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade. Education and coursework related to Public Administration, Animal Behavior, and Veterinary Office Assisting or similar is highly desired.
 
License & Certificates: Possess and maintain a valid California Class C Driver's License.
