Under the leadership and direction of the Deputy Director of the Planning and Development Division for the Airport, the Senior Engineer position is a strategic leader that leads a wide range of professional and para-professional team members who perform a variety of multi-disciplinary Airport projects in the development, management, and delivery of projects in the Airport Capital Improvement Program (CIP) and the Airport Master Plan Program of various and considerable complexities. The Senior Engineer must possess in depth knowledge and expertise in the theories, principles, practices, and techniques related to civil, mechanical, structural, electrical, and/or geotechnical engineering, architecture, and capital project delivery. Demonstrated experience in airport construction projects which provides innovative solutions for complex challenges is expected. The Senior Engineer is responsible for collaboration with other Airport Divisions, City Departments, airlines, external agencies, and tenants potentially impacted by the CIP and the Master Plan program. In addition, the position will ensure program compliance with Federal Aviation Administration, Transportation Security Administration, Customs and Border Protection, and other agencies that may have impacts and jurisdictions to the projects. The Position
This announcement is for two (2) positions as described below: 

Department of Public Works
The City of Santa Clara's Department of Public Works seeks a results-oriented and innovative engineer to serve out the Department's mission to provide the highest quality public works services to the residents of Santa Clara, the development community, and our customers in a responsible and efficient manner. The Department has focus areas that include Engineering Services and Operations and Maintenance. Engineering Services is comprised of five divisions: Administration, Traffic, Design, Land and Property Development, and Field Services. Operations and Maintenance include public roadways, parkways and boulevards, City trees, street sweeping, environmental programs, storm drain systems, fleet, solid and mixed waste/recyclables, and City facilities. The Traffic Engineering Division provides traffic engineering (lead and support for the design and construction of both City and private development projects), traffic impact analysis reviews for private development projects and transportation projects, bicycle and pedestrian improvement planning, grant administration, and traffic signal maintenance and operation services for the City.
The division receives and investigates resident/business inquiries related to street parking, traffic calming, intersection control (i.e., signals, warning beacons, regulatory signage, and crosswalks), and bicycling and pedestrian travel on public streets. The investigations may involve interaction with the residents, field review, traffic data collection, and evaluation of collected information with established city policies to prepare engineering recommendations for possible improvements.
 
The division also focuses on multi-modal planning and implementation related explicitly to the goals and projects included with the City’s Bicycle Plan, Pedestrian Masterplan, and the City’s Complete Streets policy. Finally, this division coordinates with other agencies such as the Valley Transportation Authority, County of Santa Clara Roads and Airports, Caltrans, and the cities of San Jose, Cupertino, and Sunnyvale related to projects, programs, and grant opportunities. Experience in customer service, traffic design and construction, transportation planning, traffic control device operations, and project management and delivery is essential to success in this position.

Under direct supervision of the Transportation Manager, the Senior Civil Engineer performs the following duties:

• Prepare and manage the preparation of preliminary, final design, and contract documents (plans, specifications, and cost estimates)
• Implementation of transportation plans and programs (i.e. Bicycle Master Plan, Pedestrian Master Plan, Complete Streets Policy, and Vision Zero);
• Conduct studies and analyses of traffic engineering projects or problems, and prepares technical reports; 
• Coordinate engineering activities with other City departments and other public agencies in the transportation related matters;
• Track and manage project budgets; 
• Manage operation of City traffic signals, intelligent transportation systems, and traffic control devices.
• Develop and review traffic signal timing parameters and coordination timing plans;
• Supervise, train, and support associate engineers; 
• Check plans submitted by private engineers and other public agencies for compliance with City standards related to public transportation facilities and infrastructure;
• Prepare and administer grant funding applications and reports 
• Conduct field and office work, 
• Supports the City’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee; and
• Work with the public and consultants on various projects and transportation related inquiries. 

Water and Sewer Utilities Department
Santa Clara Water & Sewer Utilities' mission is to provide customers a dependable supply of safe, potable water, environmentally-sound wastewater collection, treatment, and disposal. Furthermore, recycled water is offered for approved uses including irrigation and industrial processes, where available. The City of Santa Clara's Water and Sewer Utilities Department seeks an experienced Senior Civil Engineer with excellent project management skills; strong oral and written communication skills; and a proven track record of designing and delivering utility projects and administering consultant and construction contracts.  The qualified candidate will have experience working in a team environment on major construction projects, including working collaboratively with contractors, technicians, utility operations staff, outside agency staff, and the public. The Senior Civil Engineer delivers projects with widely varied scopes, from small, customer-focused, residential projects, to large, high-profile capital improvements with City and Region-wide implications for the delivery of services well into the future.
 
Under direct supervision, the Senior Civil Engineer performs the following duties:

• Perform high-level, fast paced engineering work relating to the permitting, design and construction of water, sewer, and other utilities projects within the City.
• Review proposed public and/or commercial utilities projects for compliance with City, County, State and Federal government construction and environmental standards, design criteria, rules and regulations.
• Be a part of a dynamic small team of engineering professionals, working on delivering projects in the Water, Sewer, and Recycled Water Utilities through their entire project life cycle, including research and design, plan review, construction, operation and maintenance.
• Assist the Principal Engineer in the planning, organizing and management of the work of the Utilities Engineering Division.
• Perform technical and administrative tasks and exercise a high degree of   independent judgment and decision making in resolving problems.

Typical Duties

Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

Under general supervision:
• Conduct studies and analyses of engineering projects or problems, and prepares technical reports on matters of public interest, including City infrastructure and transportation planning activities, public works maintenance programs, public works projects and other municipal or public facilities (e.g., storm drains and sanitary sewer systems, urban roadways, bridges, traffic and transportation system, and  public buildings)

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• A Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from a college or university that is accredited by the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET)
• Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in civil engineering office and field work performing professional level engineering work, and

Possible Substitutions
• A Master's Degree in any branch of Civil Engineering from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one (1) year of experience

LICENSES& CERTIFICATION
• Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license is required at time of appointment and for duration of employment
• Registration as a Civil Engineer in the State of California is required at time of appointment and for duration of employment
• Other licenses and certificates directly related to the Civil Engineering field (e.g. Geotechnical Engineer, Traffic Engineer, Structural Engineer, Land Surveyor, Qualified Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan Developer (QSD), Qualified Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan Practitioner (QSP))is desirable
• Current city employees appointed to Senior Civil Engineer prior to September 1, 2015 are waived of the required Registration as a Civil Engineer in the State of California

The City of Foster City has an opening for a Engineering Intern in the Public Works Department. The position is part-time with flexible scheduling, up to 980 hours per fiscal year, and no benefits provided. THE DEPARTMENT

The Public Works Department is comprised of the Engineering, Maintenance, and Water Quality Control Plant divisions.  The Engineering Division is responsible for delivering facilities and infrastructures that meet the needs of City residents and complying with standards and requirements established in the engineering guidelines and the City's Master Plan.

The Engineering Division is headed by the Principal Engineer.  The Senior Engineer position is an advanced-level engineering classification requiring professional registration, performing a wide variety of engineering duties in civil, sanitary, traffic, and other municipal public works, maintenance, and construction engineering projects.  This class is distinguished from other lower-level engineering classes in that it provides direction to staff and performs the more complex engineering and project management assignments.  Assignments and projects may be long-term or may constitute a major portion of a continuous or comprehensive engineering or Capital Improvement Program.

THE POSITIONS

Associate Civil Engineer

Under general direction, the Associate Civil Engineer performs difficult professional engineering work in the design and construction of public works, including sanitary, traffic, and mechanical projects; leads and trains lower-level engineering staff on assigned projects; and does related work as required.

TEMPORARY POTTERY INSTRUCTOR

Hours: 3 to 9 hours/week. Casual non-benefited employees are limited to working no more than twenty-five (25) hours per week and no more than 900 hours in a fiscal year (July 1-June 30).  

Recreation Services Division is seeking self-motivated, energetic, responsible individuals interested in employment as a pottery instructor for adults. Under general supervision of the Recreation Services Coordinator, pottery instructors are responsible for teaching pottery techniques through lecture and demonstrations.  Classes are run year-round and meet once a week for 3 hours. Class sessions are six weeks long and include a week break for cleaning and restocking after two consecutive class sessions (every 12 weeks).

• Teach pottery/ceramic classes by leading and demonstrating techniques associated with the subject matter
• Maintain a safe, friendly and inclusive class environment for all participants
• Adjust class as appropriate and as needed to meet the various skill levels of participants
• Develop curriculum for each class meeting
• Knowledge of glazing and firing techniques
• Develop projects to keep class interesting for both regular and repeat participants
• Maintain documentation as required
• Report to work in a timely manner and appropriately prepared

WORKING CONDITIONS
Position requires regular sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting, and stooping in the performance of activities. The position also requires grasping, repetitive hand movement and fine coordination. Additionally, the position requires near and far vision in reading reports and work related documents and using a computer. Acute hearing is required when providing personal customer service. The need to lift, drag and push, pull objects weighing up to 25 pounds is also required. Some of these requirements may be accommodated for otherwise qualified individuals requiring and requesting such accommodation.  

The minimum qualifications for education and experience can be met in the following way:

After School, Camp, Contracted Classes, Pre-School and Teen Programs

 Hours: Casual non-benefited employees are limited to working no more than twenty-five (25) hours per week and no more than 900 hours in a fiscal year (July 1-June 30). Seasonal non-benefited employees are limited to working no more than six (6) consecutive months and no more than 900 hours in a fiscal year (July 1-June 30).
 
THE POSITION
The City of Sunnyvale is seeking a self-motivated, energetic, responsible individual interested in assisting with the administration and supervision of After School, Camp, Contracted Classes, Pre-School and Teen Programs.  The Project/Grant Assistant 1 aids in the planning, administration and implementation of all programs hosted through the Recreation Services Division, Youth and Teen Unit.

Essential Job Functions

(May include, but are not limited to, the following):

• Assist Recreation Services Coordinators in planning, organizing, and implementing a variety of programs for Pre-School, Camp, Teen, After School and special events;
• Train and supervise part-time staff, as well as assist with staff recruitment and development;
• Assist in overseeing the day-to-day operations of program such as preparing activity/staff schedules and calendars, collect registration information, tabulate participant evaluations, purchasing supplies, maintaining inventory, cover open shifts, record keeping, program quality assurance or giving staff direction;
• Interact with parents, caregivers, volunteers, school district and City staff;
• Provide excellent customer service;
• Prepare public correspondence and promotional materials;
• Ensure the safety and well-being of program participants;
• Perform other duties as assigned. 

WORKING CONDITIONS
Position requires regular sitting, standing, walking, reaching, kneeling, bending, squatting and stooping in the performance of activities. The position also requires grasping, repetitive hand movement and fine coordination. Additionally, the position requires near and far vision in reading reports and work-related documents and using a computer. Acute hearing is required when providing personal customer service. The need to lift, drag and push, pull objects weighing up to 10 pounds is also required. Minimum Qualifications

The minimum qualifications for education and experience can be met in the following way:

• 18 years old minimum age
• Two years or summer seasons of experience in recreation programs
• Two years or summer seasons of supervision of staff or volunteers 
• Must have availability to work during program hours
  • Morning shifts (8am – 12 pm)
  • After School shifts (12 – 6 pm)
  • Evening shifts (6 – 10 pm)
  • Weekend shifts

Licenses/ Certificates:

Possession at time of hire and continued maintenance of a valid California Class C driver's license and a safe driving record.

THERAPEUTIC RECREATION INSTRUCTOR

(Recreation Instructor 1)

The City of Sunnyvale is seeking a qualified, self-motivated, energetic individual interested in working for the Department of Library and Recreation Services. The Therapeutic Recreation Instructor will plan, implement and evaluate recreation programs for individuals with disabilities.

Essential Job Functions

As a Therapeutic Recreation Instructor, you will:

• Plan, implement and evaluate recreation programs for individuals with disabilities.
• Adapt activities to meet the needs of program participants; create a positive and safe environment; establish positive rapport with parents, participants and volunteers.
• Guide and direct volunteers.
• Maintain supplies and equipment.
• Attend staff meetings and trainings.

WORKING CONDITIONS 
Position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting and stooping in the performance of daily activities. The position also requires grasping, repetitive hand movement and fine coordination in using a computer keyboard. Additionally, the position requires near and far vision in reading reports and work related documents and using a computer. Acute hearing is required when providing phone and personal customer service. The need to lift, drag and push files, paper, books and documents weighing up to 10 pounds is also required. Some of these requirements may be accommodated for otherwise qualified individuals requiring and requesting such accommodation.

Minimum Qualifications

• The minimum age is 18 years old
• Work or volunteer experience with individuals with disabilities is desirable.

Licenses/Certificates: 
 Possession and continued maintenance of a valid class C California driver's license and a safe driving record, or the ability to provide alternative transportation as approved by the appointing authority.
