Community Outreach Communications Project Plan 

The Community Outreach team is seeking a summer intern for a 10–12-week assignment.  The goal of the internship is to gain valuable experience capturing and creating content, assisting throughout the district.  

Key duties 

• Visit Summer Programs to Capture Video and Photo content 

• Draft Program Highlight and Promotional Social Posts 

• Edit Community Facing District-Wide Videos 

• Assist with District-Wide Communications including Email Newsletters, Website, and social media. 

Key deliverables will be: 

• Create two to three 30 second videos highlighting LARPD’s impact on the community. 

• Update District Parks and Facilities Guide for Website  

• Capturing photo/video content from summer programs 

What learning will occur for the intern? 

• Learn to effectively communicate the LARPD brand identity across various channels, including social media, website, and content creation, by maintaining consistency in voice, tone, and messaging. 

• Gain hands-on experience in managing social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, YouTube, Instagram) by creating engaging content, scheduling posts, monitoring audience engagement, and analyzing performance metrics to optimize strategies. 

• Learn website management by assisting with content updates, uploading new information, ensuring website functionality, and implementing best practices to enhance online visibility and user experience. 

• Develop skills in content creation, including writing engaging copy, designing visuals, and creating multimedia content such as videos, graphics, and infographics to convey key messages and engage the target audience. 

• Gain proficiency in video editing software to assist in creating and editing promotional videos, event highlights, and educational content for various communication channels, while adhering to branding guidelines and storytelling principles. 

Timing 

June-August 9th.  Interns may start and end later but need to be present for the core Sessions slated for the entire month of June, July and through August 9th.  

Work hours will be Monday – Friday, 25-30 hours per week during the 12 weeks of employment.  The pay rate will be $20 per hour.  All interns will be required to successfully complete a Department of Justice fingerprint clearance and undergo a TB test as a condition of employment.

Typical Duties:

• Five years' experience dispatching in the public safety field, at least two (2) years of which having been at the supervisory level.
Possible Substitutions:
• Administrative or supervisory experience in a public safety department may be substituted for the dispatching experience on a year for year basis.

LICENSE
Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license is required at time of appointment and for duration of employment.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Works under the general supervision of a Senior Public Safety Dispatcher or Watch Commander and the overall direction of the Communications Operations Manager.

 

The City of Sunnyvale invites applications for Public Safety Dispatcher in Training. Under supervision and in a trainee capacity, processes emergency and non-emergency calls for service; dispatches police, fire, medical, rescue, animal control or other emergency equipment, by telephone or radio, utilizing complex technical aids, such as computer aided dispatch systems (CAD); and performs other related duties as assigned.

Public Safety Dispatcher-In-Training is the entry and trainee level in the public safety dispatcher series. Under close supervision, incumbents are trained in dispatching techniques, equipment, and protocols. Work assignments change frequently to facilitate training. Employees are subject to daily and weekly observation reports until they demonstrate the ability to perform independently. This is an alternately staffed classification. As a Public Safety Dispatcher II, this non-sworn classification dispatches public safety, fire, and emergency medical services out into the community. The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Program Manager II in the Information Technology Department! In this role, you will perform as a technical portfolio manager overseeing staff assigned to function as project managers. You will be responsible for establishing, implementing and maintaining an enterprise IT portfolio management program to ensure that IT projects and programs are planned and delivered according to business unit demands and priority. The Program Manager II will collaborate with the IT Director/CIO, other IT leads and City department heads (and/or their delegates) to provide the vision and leadership necessary to plan and execute strategic programs and tactical projects.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge and skills for this position is: Equivalent to graduation from a four year college or university with major coursework in business, public administration, or a related field and five (5) years in the development and implementation of programs.

Other requirements: Must be able to travel to various locations within and outside the City of Berkeley to meet program needs and to fulfill the job responsibilities. When driving on City business, the incumbent is required to maintain a valid California driver's license as well as a satisfactory driving record. Must be able to attend evening and weekend meetings. 

In addition to the qualifications above, the ideal candidate will be a thought leader, a consensus builder, and an integrator of people and processes. While the PM is the leader of the IT portfolio, they must also be able to coordinate disparate drivers, constraints and personalities while maintaining objectivity and a strong understanding that portfolio management is just one of the critical, integrated functions within IT.
