THE DEPARTMENT

The Community Development department is responsible for ensuring a sustainable and vibrant community that supports a high quality of life for residents, businesses and visitors. It includes the Building, Planning and Housing divisions, and core services include building permits, plan check, inspections, affordable housing administration and housing initiatives, as well as long-range planning and development review. The Building Division is responsible for managing the building permit, plan check and inspection processes for compliance with all applicable State laws, local municipal codes and related policies involving building construction, which requires a high level of customer service with the public and coordination within and across departments and agencies.

THE POSITION

The Building Official oversees the development of programs, projects, operations, and services of the Building Division, and is a part of the Community Development management team. This position will manage a 13-member team, including a Permit Manager, Building Permit Technicians, Plan Check Engineer, and Building Inspectors, and will receive general direction from the Assistant Community Development Director or the Community Development Director. Successful performance in this role requires professional and technical skills in the core functional areas of permitting, plan checking and building inspections, as well as knowledge of public policy and municipal services, and excellence in communication and leadership. The individual must be able to assess the current needs of the department and look for innovative ways to help the department advance to improve service delivery and meet the changing needs of the community. This will require guiding modifications to the City’s land management permitting system (Accela) to improve processes, enhance customer service and monitor data.

With the adoption of the General Plan Update in 2016 and, most recently, the Housing Element zoning-related changes, the City is expected to see physical change as plans come to fruition. A key priority for this position will be overseeing the building permit process for a diverse range of projects from tenant improvements to new single-family residential construction to hotels to large-scale, comprehensive planned mixed-use campuses. Currently, the City has approximately 775 residential units and 260,000 square feet of life science uses under construction, with over 2,000 residential units, two hotels and more than 1.8 million square feet of commercial square footage approved, but not yet under construction, along with a number of large development projects currently under review. The City of Sunnyvale is seeking a Building Inspector to provide building construction inspections. Depending on the applicant qualifications, the position will be filled at the appropriate level/salary of either a Building Inspector I or Building Inspector II.

The San Mateo Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCo) is seeking well-qualified candidates for the position of Management Analyst. This position will serve an integral role in analysis, policy planning, regulatory and other functions of LAFCo.

Under general direction of the LAFCo Executive Officer, the Management Analyst will provide a wide variety of administrative, research, analytical, and work-flow support and other related tasks in support of the Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCo) of San Mateo County; a variety of specialized studies of local government involving data collection and analysis, report preparation and public contact; develops, summarizes, and maintains administrative and fiscal records; foster cooperative working relationships County, cities and special districts and acts as liaison with various community, public, and regulatory agencies; and performs related work as required.

LAFCo is an independent commission with jurisdiction over the boundaries of cities and special districts in San Mateo County. At least one year of professional administrative experience is typically required at the Associate Management Analyst level, and at least 3 years for the Management Analyst level.

Job Description:  

The City Manager’s Office has a full-time, 40 hours per week, non-benefited summer internship opportunity. The main function of the job is to perform municipal research and analytical work on an entry level professional basis.

Duties and Responsibilities of the Honorary Dean Allison Internship may include:

• Assisting staff to develop and implement the City’s sidewalk maintenance program.
• Drafting, iterating, and designing policy to introduce the City’s tree ordinance, urban forestry initiative, and the City’s public asset inventory project 
• Assisting with the permitting, sediment, reporting and regulatory compliance in support of the City’s Dredging project.

The City of San José is recruiting for an Infrastructure and Operations Support Manager, Emergency Operations Center in the Information Technology Department. As a technical manager, this position will be responsible for overseeing infrastructure service and day-to-day operations for the City's Emergency Operation Center (EOC).

The Infrastructure and Operations Support Manager, Emergency Operations Center supports the essential technologies needed to operate the City's EOC in disasters, including the core network infrastructure, computing servers, storage, enterprise applications, collaboration tools, Mobile Device Management (MDM), and Motorola Computer Dispatch workstations. The EOC technologies include a multi-layer redundant/backup network connectivity with a localized data center, servers, and storage. This allows the EOC's technology services available during large-scale emergency events.

This position requires strong technical hands-on experience and leadership skills as well as the ability to take initiative and direct others. We are seeking an individual with a willingness to adapt to an ever-changing business as well as an ever-changing technical environment.

The ideal candidate must be able to take full ownership of managing and delegating the services of IT infrastructure, business collaboration tools, and City applications to support the EOC and lead projects to completion. Infrastructure operations include identity management, private and public cloud infrastructure, server virtualization, system management, and monitoring, client and server Windows Operating Systems and client applications, etc. Business collaboration tools include Microsoft Office 365 Productivity Suite, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, related Office 365 Suite offerings, Zoom, etc. City applications include GIS, desktop applications, etc. This position demands a proven ability to resolve complex technical issues with limited resources. The Infrastructure and Operations Support Manager for the Emergency Operations Center is a member of the IT Department with a mission to support the EOC. The work plan defines the business requirements with priorities set by the Office of Emergency Management. As a member of the EOC response team, the Infrastructure and Operations Support Manager, Emergency Operations Center will need to be available onsite to support the emergency event. Work hours during an emergency event could be after the City's business hours or on the weekend.

Duties may include but are not limited to:

• Providing technical leadership for the City's enterprise infrastructure which includes: network, servers, hyperconverged infrastructure, desktops and mobile devices, Active Directory, VPN, Federation Service, Public/Private Cloud support, enterprise storage, system management and monitoring, enterprise system backups and restore, as well as Disaster Recovery of EOC IT services.
• Leading advanced troubleshooting and triage responsibilities for infrastructure issues to ensure service availability to meet service level expectations.

ABOUT THE POSITION
The City of Gilroy is recruiting an undergraduate or graduate-level City Administration College Intern for the summer of 2024. VOLUNTEER WORK SCHEDULE

This paid internship is offered at 15 - 25 hours per week with flexible scheduling. The selected Intern may request a schedule of their choice during standard work hours as described below. The office start and end date of the internship will be determined at the time of hire. Work hours are generally Monday – Friday between 8:00am – 5:00pm.
