Woodside Fire Protection District offers an exceptional Cadet Program for individuals interested in a career in the Fire Service. Cadets gain hands-on experience participating in training and public service events. Cadets work 24-hour shifts and ride-along on emergency calls.

Woodside Cadets will work and be involved in:

Emergency calls, firefighter training, public education events, fire prevention, station duties, CERPP, CPR/first aid training. They must also meet monthly hour requirements and attend monthly training drills.

The Cadet term begins in July 1st 2024 through June 30th 2025.

Cadets must have a valid EMT certification, proof of medical insurance and a valid California driver license in order to apply.

To perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the construction, maintenance, and repair of water lines, sewers, storm drains, and pump stations.  The purpose of this recruitment is to fill multiple vacancies in the Sanitary Sewer/Storm Drainage Systems Division, as well as establish an eligibility list for future vacancies.  Initial position and salary of the selected candidate will be based on previous work experience and valid licenses/certificates. 

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The City of Woodland is looking to fill multiple Utilities Maintenance Worker I/II positions in the Public Works Sanitary Sewer/Storm Drainage Systems Division.  The Ideal Candidate for the current vacancy is someone who has a good understanding of all aspects of underground sewer/storm drain maintenance and repairs, and is familiar with the operation of light and heavy equipment.  This position requires a “team player” with good interpersonal, time management, and communication skills.  Candidate must be able to follow direction and display good judgment, as well as be organized, flexible, approachable, resourceful, and a positive team contributor.  Current and valid distribution certifications and Class A/B commercial driver’s license are highly desirable.

Utilities Maintenance Worker I:

This is the entry level class in the Utilities Maintenance Worker series.  The Utilities Maintenance Worker I may often perform many of the duties required of Utilities Maintenance Workers II but is not expected to have the depth of experience, skill level and certifications of the Utilities Maintenance Worker II. As a result, the Utilities Maintenance Worker I will have fewer opportunities to exercise independent discretion and judgment on matters related to work procedures and methods.

Utilities Maintenance Worker II:

This is the Journey level in the Utilities Maintenance Worker series. This class differs from Utilities Maintenance Worker I in that incumbent perform more complex maintenance duties including working independently, exercising judgment, and operating the full range of tools and mechanical equipment related to a specific assignment.  The Utilities Maintenance Worker II may also be expected to assist in the oversight and training of less experienced personnel. Positions in this class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the I level, or by candidates with prior work experience elsewhere.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 

Operate a variety of light and moderately heavy construction and maintenance equipment including such pieces as a loader, dump truck, water truck, steel rollers, High Velocity Vacuum Cleaner, mole trencher, and rubber-tired tractor with all attachments in order to perform a variety of routine construction and maintenance operations.  Operate fork lift as assigned and trained.  Perform general maintenance and repair on water distribution and/or storm and wastewater collection facilities including installation, testing, and backfill of service laterals.  Within the sewer and stormwater collections division, employees will be expected to use the Closed-Circuit Television Truck, sewer cable machine, flush sewer laterals and mains, assist in sewer tap installations, clean storm drain lines and catch basins. Within the water distribution division, employees will be expected to assist in water tap installations, install, remove, and repair water meters, hydrants, service valves, and mainline valves; take water meter and gauge readings; accurately maintain records and reports.  All Utilities Maintenance Worker I/II will operate equipment and vehicles with possession of all necessary licenses and certificates, utilize proper safety precautions related to all performed work and comply with the policies and procedures in the department Injury & Illness Prevention Program (IIPP). Regular, predictable, consistent and timely attendance is an essential function of the position, in that employee must be present to work on facilities and equipment impacting the public’s health and safety.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS 

Respond to inquiries from the general public. Prepare as built sketches, when required to convey information to engineering for graphic documentation. Check water meters for proper operation; troubleshoot registers and repair. Initiate and discontinue water service to customer accounts as directed. Operate telemetering and flow monitoring equipment. Work cooperatively with others. Perform related duties as assigned. Both Assignments will require employees to be “On Call” as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

Utilities Maintenance Worker I

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.  Courses in, or graduation from, the American Public Works Association’s Public Works Institute is desirable

Experience:  One (1) year of experience in construction or related field.

License and Certificate:  Requires possession of a California State Drinking Water Operator Certification Program (DWOCP) Grade I Water Distribution Operator (D1) and a Grade I Wastewater Collections System Maintenance certificate issued by California Water Environment Association prior to permanent appointment. 

A Pipeline Assessment and Certification Program certificate issued by the National Association of Sewer System Companies (NASSCO) is desirable.

Requires possession of a valid California Driver's License.  A Class B Driver’s permit and DMV Medical Certification are required within three (3) months of hire.  Employee must obtain a valid Class B Driver's License, a Work Zone Safety certification issued by the International Municipal Signal Association, First Aid and CPR certifications, Competent Person certification, and Confined Space certification prior to permanent appointment.

Utilities Maintenance Worker II

Education:  High School Diploma or equivalent.  Courses in or graduation from the American Public Works Association’s Public Works Institute is desirable

Experience:  One (1) year of experience performing duties comparable to those of a Utilities Maintenance Worker I.

License and Certificate:  Requires possession of a California State (DWOCP) Grade I Water Distribution Operator (D1) and a Grade II Wastewater Collections System Maintenance certificate issued by California Water Environment Association upon hire.

Requires all of the certifications necessary for a Utilities Maintenance Worker I and possession of a valid Class B California Driver's License with Tank and Air Brake Endorsement upon hire.

Street Maintenance Operator II: This is the full journey level class within the Street Maintenance Operator series. Employees at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise, and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies within the work unit. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

The current salary range for the Division Manager is $131,187.68 - $207,658.10. This salary range includes an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation. Actual salary shall be determined by the final candidates' qualifications and experience.

The Division Manager will report directly to the Deputy Director of Public Works and will manage a growing team of 13 skilled engineers, architects, and analysts. The successful candidate will be a registered professional engineer and/or architect.

T he Division Manager is responsible for assisting in the planning, organizing, directing, and coordinating operational and administrative service functions within the Division , oversee ing total project management, from forecasting, planning, design, engineering, bidding, and construction management through to ribbon cuttings. They assist executive and senior management in formulating and implementing department policies and procedures. They are experienced in delivering capital projects from start to finish, are fast learners, nimble, diplomatic, and have demonstrated capability in working with multiple stakeholders.

An in-depth knowledge of employing airport industry standard specifications, municipal codes, and engineering principles is desired. Identifying opportunities to streamline the project planning, design, and management processes will be a mark of their success. A strong focus on customer service and partnering with other departments and agencies is essential. The Division Manager will need to balance the demands of quality, speed, and cost with regard to the development and rapid implementation of the Airport's Capital Improvement Program.

The Division Manager position performs work of considerable difficulty including:

• Hiring and retaining staff to assist on-time delivery of projects that meet budget.

• Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) sensitivity and implementation practices are required .
• Leading and managing the Training and Development team to create consistent project management practices and improvement in our contractor outreach program.
• Leadership, coordination, and enhancement for airport capital activities between the Airport staff, the Public Works departmental divisions, elected officials, other stakeholders, and the public, using the City's values as a guide.
• Leading the majority of the $650 million Measure T Program which builds projects to improve Disaster Preparedness, Public Safety, and Infrastructure.

• Directing special Airport strategic planning programs.
• Presenting reports and information to the City Council, boards, committees, and other divisions or departments as necessary.

• Maintaining compliance with all applicable regulations and to use sound airport engineering principles to achieve team effectiveness in project delivery.

The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Senior Solid Waste Supervisor in the Zero Waste Division of the Public Works Department! In this role, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with the Zero Waste Operations Manager and the Solid Waste Supervisor(s) on a daily basis to ensure that all operations are carried out safely and in compliance with environmental obligations. The Senior Solid Waste Supervisor also works closely with peers across all operations to ensure consistent safety and operational standards and performance. Other requirements include possession of a valid class "C" California driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record. Candidates must be willing to work evening, early morning, holidays, and weekend shifts. Candidates must report changes in status of driver’s license.

The City of San Mateo Public Works Department is looking for a qualified Deputy Director of Public Works.

The Environmental Services Section consists of four main Divisions, including Clean Water Program, Wastewater Treatment Plant, Field Maintenance and Data Management. The Engineering Services Section consists of four main Divisions, including Engineering (including Capital Improvement), Fleet Services and Facilities (including facility maintenance and capital improvements), Regulatory Compliance, and Transportation (including Traffic Engineering, Right-of-Way /Private Development, and Transportation Planning).

The current vacancy oversees the Engineering Services Division. Depending on your skillset and experience the City could place you in either of these sections or adjust the divisional oversight responsibilities.

What You’ll Do

The Deputy Director of Public Works is responsible for directing and managing all programs within the Section for which they are responsible, includes capital improvement program development and implementation, traffic engineering, private development review, asset management, construction management, fleet coordination, downtown coordination and building maintenance; and the position may serve as the City Engineer.

• Utilize your experience and skills to lead a number of divisions within the Public Works Department.

• Engage in a positive manner with City Council, PW Department staff, City Departments and citizens.

• Lead and mentor a dedicated and talented staff featuring many emerging leaders.

• Analyze current processes and procedures to make system improvements for efficiencies, updating of standards, and

  improvements to the customer experience.

• Collaborating with other agencies and stakeholders to plan regional solutions on shared items of interest such as traffic

  and the City’s General Plan Update.

• Contribute to a collaborative and dynamic Public Works Leadership team.

  The Deputy Director receives general direction from the Director of Public Works and exercises direct supervision over management, supervisory, professional, technical, and administrative support staff.
