The Department: 

The City Clerk’s Office administrates democratic processes such as elections, access to records, and all legislative actions, ensuring transparency to the public. The Position:

Under general direction, the Deputy City Clerk is responsible for providing back-up support to the City Clerk and Assistant City Clerk.  This includes but is not limited to records management, public records requests, attendance at Council and/or Standing Committee meetings, preparing and editing minutes, and assisting with special projects. May be responsible for noticing, advertising, and calendaring public hearings.

Education: Equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year college or university with major work in public or business administration or related field.

The San Mateo County Registration & Elections Division is seeking seasonal Election Vote Center Representatives (Office Assistant I) to assist in the upcoming March 5, 2024 Presidential Primary Election. Vote Centers offer in-person voting, voter registration, and additional services to the public up to a month before the election.
 
We are currently seeking dedicated and hard-working individuals for the temporary, full-time positions of Vote Center Representatives to be hired for the following duties:

• Use an iPad tablet to verify voter eligibility.
• Provide information about the current election.
• Guide voters on use of electronic ballot marking devices.
• Operate office equipment including Windows Laptops, printers, and iPad tablets.
• Provide in-person voter assistance to register to vote and cast a ballot.
• Issue ballots using Windows laptops.
• Maintain accurate files and records.
• Secure Election materials and supplies to maintain the integrity of the election.

The last anticipated day of employment will be March 7, 2024.
 
Vote Center Representatives will work eight (8) hours per day in-person once the site opens. Typical hours are 8 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday with the addition of at least one weekend (March 2-3, 2024). This assignment will include one setup day of at least four hours before opening the location. On Election Day, Vote Center Representatives will work from 6 a.m. - 10 p.m. or later.  
 
The hourly wage for this position starts at: $22.97. These positions will require working overtime, including long hours, weekends, evenings, and holidays.  

• Authorized time worked more than 40 hours in the workweek: compensated at the rate of one and one-half (1-1/2) times the straight-time rate.
• Hours worked on a holiday: compensated at the rate of one and one-half (1-1/2) times the straight-time rate as provided in the Overtime Section of this MOU for their work group.

 
NOTE: This is an extra-help, at-will assignment, paid on an hourly basis. Extra-help hours are dependent on the business needs of the department and therefore work hours may vary from week to week. Qualifications

Ideal candidates will have a minimum of one year of general clerical, office assistant, phone services or computer experience, experience with customer service, and a close attention to detail.
 
Critical skills for all Vote Center positions include the ability to prioritize work, coordinate several activities, organize and maintain accurate files and records, and understand and carry out oral and written directions. Several positions require fluency in Burmese, Cantonese, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Spanish and/or Tagalog/Filipino.
 
The position requires basic addition and subtraction. Vote Center Representatives must be proficient in the operation of a Windows computer, computer software, and applications. This position also requires the ability to operate standard office equipment, learn computer applications/software quickly and accurately, and serve members of the public.

Typical office hours are 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday. and energetic individuals to join our Aquatics Section!

Qualifications:

Must be at least 15 years old and have the ability to obtain a work permit, if under the age of 18.  Applicants must have completed and passed the Lifeguard Training class that includes CPR, FPR, and AED by June 1, 2024. WSI (water safety instructor) is highly recommended.

Lifeguard Job Responsibilities:

• The primary responsibility of a lifeguard is to protect lives by using their skills to prevent injury among patrons.  This duty does not only include rescuing drowning victims or administering CPR and first aid.  Being alert and proactive also helps to prevent dangerous situations from ever occurring in the first place.
• Enforcing the rules fairly and consistently is a close second major duty and could even be considered to be a part of patron surveillance.  Help the patrons to keep themselves safe by monitoring and putting an end to dangerous behaviors. 
• Maintenance and cleaning tasks are also part of the lifeguard’s duties.  These can include monitoring chemical levels in the pool, picking up trash and organizing equipment, or inspecting the facility for unsafe conditions.

Swim Instructor Job Responsibilities:

• The swim instructor is responsible for instructing swim lesson participants in a variety of swim levels.
• This position is also responsible for the safety of the participants in their own class.
• Work hours as scheduled which includes beginning and ending class on time; remaining after class to answer participant and/or parent questions as needed and clean up supplies.
• Instructs and evaluates students participating in swim lessons.
• Submits completed report cards, skills sheets, and attendance information on time.
