The Position

The Solid Waste Manager reports directly to the Environmental Services Manager and is responsible for the administration of multiple integrated waste management contracts and programs within the Environmental Services Division. This position supervises a team of technical staff who execute various integrated solid waste management activities and may serve as the division head in the absence of the Environmental Services Manager.

Examples of Duties

• Manage multiple City franchise agreements for solid waste collection, material transfer and recovery, and landfill disposal including negotiating contract terms and monitoring performance.
• Oversee the division’s solid waste programs including planning, organizing, and implementing programs to create environmentally sound and cost-effective methods for the disposal of garbage and household hazardous waste, recovery of recyclables, diversion of organic material, and waste prevention.
• Plan, develop, and oversee the work of integrated waste management staff, providing leadership and fostering staff development.
• Receive and respond to complex customer service requests concerning scope of program, technical information, and service delivery issues.
• Oversee the Division’s public education, outreach, and special events to promote environmentally responsible and sustainable behavior.
• Analyze proposed legislation affecting integrated waste management activities, develops and implements program and policies to ensure City compliance with regulatory mandates.
• Conduct analysis and prepare reports and documents as required by regulatory agencies and for City Council study sessions and meetings.
• Participate in budget preparation and administration.
• Make presentations to City Council, boards, commissions or other public groups and acts as the City designated representative as assigned.
• Other related duties as assigned.

IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Plan, prepare and implement marketing strategies, programs and special events that promote and expand the quality of life for both residents and businesses in the City and support economic vitality of the City.

• Work with major employers, technology start-ups, and other businesses to develop and implement specific business attraction, expansion and retention programs.

• Serve as a representative for business interests on policy issues impacting the business community.

• Work with non-profit community to retain and expand the range of service organizations that promote the quality of place for Foster City, its residents and business community.

• Support Foster City’s commitment to “Sustainable Foster City” and the tenants of Social, Economic and Environmental stewardship.

• Exercise management and operational authority over assigned projects, services, and administration operations; maintain financial and administrative processes and records, development recommendations for establishing and/or modifying policies and procedures.

• Prepare and administer the budget for assigned functional area.

• Monitor the City's performance in meeting business needs.

• Prepare an action plan to implement a strategy to achieve the City’s economic goals for a healthy and sustainable economy including proactive strategies to attract new businesses.

• Gather and analyze data related to the economic climate in the City and region and prepare data for dissemination to the governing bodies, media and public.

• Monitor, compile, analyze and report on various information data sources including employment, retail sales tax, business license, commercial real estate, population and demographics, hotel occupancy rates and assessed property values.

• Works closely in partnership with the Community Development Department, Public Works Department and Recreation to develop and implement the various programs, policies and strategies.

• Coordinate with other city departments on current and planned development projects.

• Seek out opportunities to collaborate with corporate partners and other public agencies, such as our school districts, to advance the City’s interest and ability to serve our residents and business community.

• Prepare and present staff reports and information on economic development projects to City Council and other agencies as required.

• Support and attend committee, ad-hoc, or other community groups that advance the city’s priorities as they relate to economic development and partnership.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Experience and Training Guidelines: Any combination of experience and training will qualify if it provides for the required knowledge and abilities.

Experience:  Four years of increasingly responsible professional experience in economic development, business or planning.  Experience working in or with the public sector desirable. 

Education:  Equivalent to a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in public administration, business, planning economics, or a related field.  Master’s degree in public administration, business or related field is desirable.

Position Details

Under close supervision, maintain constant watch over a public swimming pool facility to enforce regulations and prevent accidents, assist swimmers in distress and provide emergency and routine first aid. Create a safe and positive atmosphere for all participants and perform basic facility maintenance duties.

SALARY AND HOURS: 

$ 18.83 - $ 19.77 - $ 20.76 - $ 21.79 - $ 22.88 per hour.  This is a part-time position with paid sick leave available.  Initial appointments are generally made at the first step of this five-step scale.  Hours will range from 5 to 15 hours per week during the academic school year and 20-25 hours per week during camp seasons.  Hours are generally scheduled during the following times, with additional hours available for special events:

Youth Program

            2:00 PM – 6:00 PM Monday through Friday (Academic school year)

Marina Attendants work in the formal Suisun City classification of Recreation Specialist I. Starting hourly rate will depend on qualifications. This position works on average 19 hours per week.

 

The Department: The Recreation, Parks and Marina Department is responsible for the operations and programs of the Suisun City Marina, the Senior Center, and the Joseph A. Nelson Center, including preschool, after-school programs at various sites, recreation classes and sports leagues, community events and special event rentals.

 

The Position: Marina Attendants provide assistance and information to marina customers, in person and by telephone; perform marina related inspections and boat checks including seaworthiness boat checks and improvement verifications; perform boat measurement and appearance inspections; monitor dock conditions, check seawall and other dock infrastructure, and clear debris from Suisun City waters; perform impound and auction related activities; interpret, apply and explain policies, regulations, codes and procedures relating to slips, moorings and dock structures; assign space for visiting vessels, calculate and collect fees; maintain inventory and operate marina equipment. The City of Redwood City invites you to apply for the position of Program Leader II (Teen Referee Training Program-After School Sports). 

ABOUT THE POSITION

The City of Redwood City Parks, Recreation & Community Services Department is looking for enthusiastic high school students to train and work within our After School Sports Program as a flag football, volleyball or basketball officials.  On game days, youth referees will be partnered with an experienced official to provide mentorship and continuous training. 

Game days and times are Monday through Thursday, from 3:45pm-7pm. Youth officials will typically work two days a week. Officials will earn a referee certification and will be provided a referee shirt and whistle. Training dates will vary based on sport and season and will include classroom and hands-on instruction. 

Sample timeline:

Flag Football and Volleyball Training:

• Training Certification Mid-August – through September
• Games begin the last week of September – Second week of November

Basketball Training:

• Training Certification Mid-August – through September
• Games begin the first week of December – Second week of third week of March
• Referee certification and mentorship will be provided by local highs school referees association and the National Academy of Athletics.

Typical duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Attendance at all training sessions
• Knowledgeable of the rules and regulations of assigned sport program.
• Officiate After School Sports scrimmage and games.
• Exercise sound judgment in addressing behavior problems.
• Establish and maintain a respectful and courteous working relationship with coaches, participants, and parents contacted in the course of work.
