THE POSITION

The Police Captain is an at-will position and serves at the pleasure of the City Manager. Under the general direction of the Police Chief, the Police Captain plans, directs, manages, and coordinates the personnel and activities of a major division within the Police Department; assists in the development and implementation of department goals, objectives, policies, and priorities; coordinates assigned activities with other City departments, divisions, and outside agencies; serves as Acting Chief in the Police Chief's absence; provides responsible administrative support to the Police Chief; and performs related duties as assigned. Examples of duties are:

• Plans, directs, manages, coordinates, and evaluates the work of a major division of the Police Department, which may include field operations, investigations, communications, public services and programs, and administration; develops, recommends, and administers policies and procedures.
• Develops and directs the implementation of division goals, objectives, policies, and priorities; establishes, within City policy, appropriate service and staffing levels; allocates resources accordingly.
• Continuously monitors and evaluates the efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery methods and procedures; assesses and monitors workload, administrative and support systems, and internal reporting relationships; identifies opportunities for improvement; directs the implementation of changes.
• Represents the Police Department to other City departments, elected officials, and outside agencies; explains, justifies, and supports Police Department programs, policies, and activities; negotiates and resolves sensitive, significant, and controversial issues.
• Selects, trains, motivates, and evaluates Police Department personnel; provides or coordinate staff training; works with employees to correct deficiencies; implements discipline and termination procedures.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in criminal justice, criminology , police science, public or business administration, or a closely related field;

AND

Eight (8) years of increasingly responsible experience as a sworn law enforcement officer, including at least two (2) years equivalent to a lieutenant or above.

Licenses and Certifications

• Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, a valid California Class C Driver License and a satisfactory driving record is required. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
• Possession of a California Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Management Certificate.

Working Conditions

Must be 21 years of age at time of appointment. Must be a United States citizen or a permanent resident alien who is eligible for and has applied for citizenship. Incumbents must pass a thorough background investigation.

Must be willing to work emergencies as well as evenings, weekends, and holidays. Must meet physical, psychological, and background standards established by POST as well as ongoing peace officer requirements pursuant to federal, state, and local legislation. This classification functions as a peace officer within the authority and limits of California Penal Code Sections 830.1(a) and 832.

All City of Rocklin employees are designated as Emergency Service Workers during a proclaimed emergency and may be required to perform certain emergency services at the direction of the department and/or City.

Next Generation Regional Internship Program

In conjunction with the Two-County (San Mateo and Santa Clara) Regional Internship Program, the City of South San Francisco offers paid summer internship opportunities for current undergraduate and graduate college students who are interested in contributing to the community. An internship with the City of South San Francisco offers valuable, real-world job experience in a local government setting. Through this internship, you will gain exposure to a wide variety of programs and services, while enhancing and sharpening your writing, presentation, research, analysis, and critical thinking skills. As part of the Two-County Regional Internship Program, this experience will also be supplemented with learning forums and access to professionals in your interested field.

These paid positions are part-time and do not include benefits. The intern position is a temporary assignment for summer 2024. These positions include flexible scheduling and College/University credit may be provided, as applicable. Interns receive direction and guidance from a supervisor who is traditionally part of the management staff.

Project Description

Under supervision, the History Room Intern will assist with archival projects at the City of South San Francisco Public Library. Interns may assist with collection processing, creating metadata, describing public events, and social media and/or other outreach initiatives. The intern will gain an on-the-job understanding of archival standards and best practices and learn how to use the ArchivesSpace content management system and other technologies. They will also gain experience working with a variety of archival materials. In addition to archival projects, the intern will help plan, coordinate, and host one public event and create a public display showcasing archival material. The internship helps develop the intern’s communication, research, information management, and problem-solving skills.

Project Outcomes

The History Room Intern will learn how to process and describe collections and materials housed in the Library’s History Room.

The County of Yuba is currently recruiting for the  flexibly staffed position of Elections Clerk I-II in the Elections Division within the Clerk-Recorder’s Office for both Extra Help and Full Time positions. This position reports directly to the Registrar of Voters Manager. This class is flexibly staffed, and incumbents may advance to the II-level after gaining experience, demonstrating proficiency, and meeting the qualifications. Initially under close supervision, incumbents learn state and federal laws, rules and regulations related to conducting elections as well as County policies and procedures. As experience is gained, assignments become more complex and are performed under more general supervision. Incumbent to this position will assist in conducting elections; process voter registration; maintain voter registration database; review and accept election filings; coordinate poll workers and polling facilities; proof printed, audio and electronic election materials; track, prepare and test electronic voting equipment; and perform other duties as assigned.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

• Perform general and specialized clerical duties related to assigned functional area.
• Process and verify a variety of documents including general and legal correspondence, memos and statistical data.
• Provide and maintain quality customer service relationships with co-workers, other County employees and the general public.
• Serve as a resource to the general public; provide answers and information regarding processes and procedures for assigned area.
• Accept, process, issue, file and purge affidavits of registration; enter information into an automated system for voter registration maintenance.
• Issue, receive, review and file nomination papers for public office.
• Deposit filing fees and issue receipts; collect and summarize election cost data.
• Coordinate and schedule precinct poll workers; assist in development of poll worker training.

The Community Service Officer II is a journey level position which provides a broader range of responsibility and requires a higher level of experience and training. This position inspects plans or buildings and construction for compliance with structural building codes, laws and ordinances and provides training and working lead assistance to other inspectors on structural matters as required.

Representative Duties

ABOUT THE POSITION
The City of Gilroy is recruiting an undergraduate or graduate-level City Administration College Intern for the summer of 2024. This internship will provide a significant opportunity to gain experience and exposure and accumulate skills that are used daily in various city government programs that make substantial impacts to the community. The office start and end date of the internship will be determined at the time of hire. Work hours are generally Monday – Friday between 8:00am – 5:00pm.

THE POSITION: 

The City of San Pablo is actively recruiting for a Community Services Coordinator I/II position to plan, organize, and direct services and programs within the Community Services Department for our senior population, volunteer programs and city-wide special events. Our senior programs provide opportunities for adults 50 years of age and older, to engage in active and healthy programming. The Church Lane Senior Center hosts a congregate lunch program, numerous senior focused special events, weekday door-to-door transportation service (managed by a different full-time coordinator) and drop- in programs and classes. The city hosts 10-12 city-wide special events each year that include family dances, spring egg hunt, Cinco de Mayo celebration, Movies Under the Stars, 4th of July Multi-Cultural celebration, Halloween, Veterans Day and a Winter Wonderland Festival. The Community Services Department relies heavily on volunteers for both special events and senior programs and wants to expand the volunteer recruitment and training program.
