Primary responsibilities:

• Monitor and assist in crossing of school-age children during peak traffic times at select locations.
• Provide appropriate safety instruction for children crossing streets and intersections.
• Watch traffic flow and wait for an appropriate gap between vehicles to lead groups of school children safely across a street.

The Office of Mayor Matt Mahan is recruiting for a Council Policy & Legislative Director, seeking a highly qualified professional to serve as a member of the Mayor’s Policy Team. The position will work on several priority initiatives, making recommendations, and developing action plans for meeting the Mayor’s policy objectives. Policy areas of focus may include public safety, housing, homelessness, environment, neighborhood quality of life, land use, or economic development.

The total salary range for the Council Policy & Legislative Director is $68,619.98 - $109,791.76. This amount includes an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable pay. The actual salary shall be determined by the final candidates’ qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities for the position may include, but are not limited to the following:

• • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with City Council offices, City departments, community organizations, residents, business community, non-profit organizations, and government agencies as they are key partners on policy and as a representative of the Mayor’s Office.
  • Coordinate projects citywide with City administration.
  • Lead initiatives within an assigned policy portfolio. Drive policy priorities through government and legislative process. Research best practices on assigned policy portfolio.
  • Gather background information relative to issues pending before the City Council.
  • Draft routine to complex correspondence, memoranda, and reports which articulate the Mayor’s policy initiatives.
  • Prepare speeches and talking points for the Mayor.
  • Coordinate arrangements for meetings, programs, or other civic functions on behalf of the Mayor.
  • Attend meetings and community events with the Mayor, requires occasional availability on evenings and weekends.
  • Gather background information relative to issues pending before the City Council
  • Analyze a wide variety of materials on assigned projects, programs, and topics.
  • Respond to constituent inquiries and issues, resolving complaints, and interpreting operating policies for residents of the community and other interested parties.
  • Attend and represent the Mayor at City-related meetings and activities, meeting with governmental agencies, private industry, and related meetings.
  • Perform other duties of a similar nature or level as required.

Employees in this classification are not members of the classified civil service and appointment would be on a contract “at-will” basis and is for a specified period of time to be determined by the appointing Councilmember and does not extend past the end of the elected official's or appointing authority's term. Candidates must be willing to work evenings and weekends on occasion, and as exempt management employees, are not eligible for overtime compensation. Position:

The role of the Resilience Coordinator position will be to support the Mission of the Office of Emergency Management, which is “To provide leadership of the City of San José’s emergency management responsibilities through planning and coordination of programs, functions, and supporting activities to prepare for, respond to, and recover from all emergencies and disasters.” The position will assist in coordinating multi-hazard planning efforts in the City of San José, including reviewing documents with an intentional lens of Access and Functional Needs (AFN) and racial equity considerations in emergency.  This position requires high levels of analysis, document development, understanding of the State of California’s Standardized Emergency Management System principles and integration with response plans. This is the fully experienced level in the unclassified Executive Analyst series and requires an individual to work under the general direction of an assigned executive in the Office of Emergency Management with full professional independence.

·        Assist in the coordination of programs to integrate existing emergency preparedness and comprehensive operational plans and procedures with internal city offices and departments, other government agencies, community-based organizations, volunteers, public service agencies, private and nonprofit sector resource agencies to ensure that established programs and plans comply with state and federal guidelines.

·        Plan and coordinate emergency management operational activities, drills, and events with all levels of government, school districts, public utilities, community-based organizations, volunteers, public service agencies, private and nonprofit sector resource agencies with disaster response administration.

·        Research, evaluate, and assist in the development and maintenance of comprehensive emergency plans in accordance with federal and state emergency management guides.

·        During major disasters and emergencies, performs emergency management tasks requiring action from all levels of government, school districts, public utilities, community-based organizations, volunteers, public service agencies, private and nonprofit sector resources agencies.

·        Administers, coordinates, and presents Disaster Service Worker training for employees and emergency management training for Emergency Operations Center (EOC) Staff.

·        Monitors state and federal disaster preparedness information and requirement updates, and may advise management of issues

·        Assists with preparing correspondence, procedures, transmittals, project and grant applications and program reports associated with emergency management activities

·        Performs other emergency management duties as assigned

·        This position responds to activations of the EOC.

The Information Technology Department’s Development Services Solutions team is seeking qualified candidates to fill the Information System Analyst positions to support the development and maintenance for several Off-The-Shelf (OTS) and custom systems and applications that support operations of the Planning, Building, Code Enforcement department and the Development Services process at the City of San Jose. The primary role of this position is to act as technical lead in supporting and managing diverse departmental business systems that include web and client servers’ application, database, Permitting and Compliance, public web portal, Business Intelligence, GIS, Inspection scheduling/Dispatch, Digital Inspection and performing all duties necessary for maintaining, supporting and optimize systems.  This position must ensure business processes for users are documented and that systems meet customer expectations.  This position is responsible for ongoing user training, report creation, systems administrations, system support, maintenance, and programming efforts and must maintain excellent customer relations.

The Development Services Solutions team is responsible for several Off-The-Shelf (OTS) and custom systems and applications that support daily operations of the Planning, Building, Code Enforcement department and the Development Services process at the City of San Jose. The Information Technology Department’s Development Services Solutions team is seeking for two qualified candidates to fill the Senior Applications Developer positions to support the development and maintenance of the above systems and applications as well as to assist with emerging needs around data analysis, data extraction, data mapping, and reporting functions associated with the above systems and business requirements. The ideal candidate should have technical experience in at least one or more items in each of the following four skills groups: 

1.    Systems: Granicus AMANDA, SAP Crystal Reports, Yellowfin and/or Power BI, Enterprise Content Management, Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) such as Mule ESB, and/or Case Management/Tracking systems.

This position is responsible for performing transactional paralegal duties related to legal transactions for the Housing Department. The ideal candidate will be a Paralegal experienced in preparation and/or review of real estate loan documents, closing of escrows for real estate financing transactions (including review of preliminary title reports and title policies), will be detail-oriented with good organizational and computer skills, and will have good writing and analytical skills. The annual salary range for a Legal Analyst I is $80,676.96 to $98,083.44, and the annual salary range for a Legal Analyst II is $88,058.88 to $107,016.00.
