Streets & Construction Worker I

The City of Chowchilla is seeking a Streets & Construction I, under general supervision, to perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the maintenance and repair of streets, sidewalks, gutters, facilities, trees and other public service activities, and to perform related work as required.

THE POSITION(S)

Streets & Construction Worker I:

This is an entry-level class under close supervision, performs any combination of the following duties on construction projects, usually working in utility capacity, by transferring from one task to another where demands require worker with varied experience and ability.  Work is usually performed with other workers.  This class may advance to Streets & Construction Worker II after gaining experience and demonstrating proficiency to meet the qualification of the higher-level class.

Prerequisites:   Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school (or G.E.D equivalent to graduation) and two years’ experience performing a variety of skilled and semi-skilled construction and/or maintenance involving buildings, grounds, streets and sidewalks.

Water System Worker III (Lead Position)

($25.51- $32.66 per hour)

The City of Chowchilla is seeking a Water System Worker III to assist in the operation and maintenance of the City’s water distribution system, including pumps, mains, chlorinators, meters, and other equipment; and do related work as required on an assigned shift, under general supervision of the Utilities Systems Supervisor and/or Director of Public Works.

The City of Chowchilla is seeking a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator II for the operation and maintenance of the City’s Wastewater Treatment Plant.  The Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator II is a journey-level class in the Wastewater Plant Operator series which normally works under general supervision performing a group of related duties according to established procedures.  This position reports to the Utility Systems or Wastewater System Supervisor and does not supervise.

Basic Examples of Duties

THE TRAINEE POSITION:

Is designed to attend a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST)-certified Basic Law Enforcement Academy and receive the academic and physical training resulting in graduation and certification required for appointment to the classification of Police Officer.

This classification is structured for the purpose of becoming a sworn police officer.  Police Officer Trainees are hired into this position for the period prior and during the time they are assigned to a POST-certified Basic Law Enforcement Academy.  Prior to performing a variety of professional law enforcement duties which include police patrol, investigation, traffic regulation, and related law enforcement activities. 

Upon successful completion of training at the academy and upon the availability of a Police Officer position, Police Officer Trainees will be sworn in and appointed to the classification of Police Officer at the beginning of the following pay period.  

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES - Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Attend a POST-certified Basic Law Enforcement Academy designed to provide an overview of the criminal justice system including knowledge of laws, police procedures, law enforcement techniques, first aid and physical fitness.

Receive training to develop an awareness of Police Department functions, as well as the responsibilities of Police Officers and how those responsibilities relate to field operations.

Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Ability to:

Successfully complete a POST-Basic Law Enforcement Academy including classroom instruction, physical agility and use of firearms.

Learn proper police procedures and methods.

Observe accurately and remember names, faces, numbers, incidents and places.

Think and act quickly in emergencies and to judge situations and people accurately.

Understand and interpret laws and regulations.

• Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade (High School Diploma).  Completion of 30 semester units from an accredited college or university (60 units or more is preferred).
• Must show proof of passing the PELLETB test with a minimum T-Score of 48
• Successful completion of the WSTB test (physical agility). 

Licenses and Certificates:

Possession of and ability to maintain a valid California Driver’s License.

Necessary Special Qualifications:

• Free of any felony convictions.
• A citizen of the United States or a permanent resident alien who is eligible for and has applied for citizenship (Government Code Para. 1031).
• Age, not less than 21 years at time of appointment.
• Vision in each eye, correctable to at least 20/30.
• Must pass a background investigation.
• Meet all regulatory requirements for becoming a Peace Officer with a California P.O.S.T agency.

ADA Special Requirement:

Essential duties require the following physical abilities and work environment:

Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, squat, stoop, reach, crawl, twist, climb, and lift 50 pounds:  exposure to cold, heat, extreme noise, outdoors, confining work space, electrical hazards,   chemicals, dust, toxic waste, mechanical hazards, and explosive materials.

The City of Foster City seeks a talented individual with strong communication and analytical skills with the ability to coordinate multiple projects.  The Economic Development Manager is seen as a key figure in developing and implementing policies which will assist in promoting economic prosperity for the City.

Under general direction, implements and executes the City’s economic development goals. Works with developers and property owners on potential opportunity sites, assist applicants and businesses in their dealings with the City.  Serves as a liaison with economic development non-profit, and business groups to retain and attract businesses and services in Foster City.  The position plays a key role in maintaining and expanding a healthy local economy and City tax base in keeping with the City’s social, environmental, and economic imperatives.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED AND RECEIVED:

• Participate in and manage collaborative programs of economic development with the Chamber of Commerce, business community and other public, non-profit, and private entities.

• Represent the City and establish and maintain positive working relationships with representatives of community organizations, non-profits, business organizations, state and local agencies and associations, city management, staff and the general public.

• Develop and implement communication and customer service programs with the business, real estate and development communities to ensure a healthy economic and fiscal base in the City of Foster City.

• Work with major employers, technology start-ups, and other businesses to develop and implement specific business attraction, expansion and retention programs.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Full-time regular position, alternative 9/80 work schedule with Monday or Friday off

Waterworks Operator 2: $29.33 - $37.46 /hourly

Waterworks Operator 1: $27.68 - $35.41 /hourly

License or Certificate: Possession of, and ability to maintain, certification as Water Distribution Operator Grade D1. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Class A driver’s license within one year of employment.

Waterworks Operator II

Education/Training: Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.

Experience: Two years of increasingly responsible experience repairing and maintaining water distribution systems and equipment.

License or Certificate: Possession of, and ability to maintain, certification as Water Distribution Operator D2. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Class A driver’s license within one year of employment.

Waterworks Operator III

Education/Training: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by specialized training in water distribution systems and/or water technology courses.

Experience: Three years of increasingly responsible experience repairing and maintaining water distribution systems and equipment.

License or Certificate: Possession of, and ability to maintain, certification as a Water Distribution Operator Grade D3. Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Class A driver’s license within one year of employment.
