Role description

Under general supervision, assists in analyzing, planning, implementing, maintaining, troubleshooting and enhancing large complex systems or networks consisting of a combination that may include mainframes, mini-computers, personal computers, mobile devices, LANS, WANs, servers, data storage and the physical and logical components that integrate these systems together as an enterprise networking backbone. 

The 1042 Security Engineer is the journey level position in the Engineer series. The class is distinguished from the Senior level by the complexity of the tasks, projects or duties assigned, and is more independent than the Assistant level. This classification performs a wide range of complex analytical, design, planning, implementation, enhancement and problem resolution tasks on large complex systems and networks. Works within a framework of established procedures and interprets policies, procedures and guidelines. This level may formulate recommendations consistent with directives, policies, standards and regulations. Incumbents require only occasional instruction or assistance. Work is reviewed upon completion and for overall results. Serves as a technical architect and systems integrator for large complex systems or networks, with a focus on securing vulnerabilities and reducing risk of system and/or asset compromises.

Essential Duties:
 

1. Determine requirements for the development environment and / or enhancement for large complex systems that serve HSA’s programs. May research and conduct feasibility studies on new technologies.
2. Design, plan, integrate, test, implement, document and enhance large complex systems. This may involve the analysis, coding (.NET C#, Cold Fusion), web application design, database design, and evaluation of systems software, hardware and communications strategies.
3. Perform systems integration for interoperability over dissimilar platforms and technologies. This may involve the integration of various protocols and systems software.
4. Determine the proper installation parameters for software for smooth integration and efficiency in relation to the enterprise system and network.
5. Write code to customize large systems software which may involve specialized programming languages.
6. Read and understand requirements documentation and other documentation in order to write code to implement the required features for application systems.
7. Analyze, detect, identify and correct complex systems software or hardware deficiencies. Analyze, research and debug program logic and systems; modify program logic; analyze service requests for system changes or new requirements to determine the most effective approach and the appropriate staff time required to achieve the needed modification.
8. Provide emergency technical support for application issues to ensure system availability and data integrity. May provide on-call support to ensure rapid recovery from software or hardware problems for mission-critical systems and networks.
9. Act as the liaison between vendors, technical support hot-lines and departments to resolve complex systems. Coordinate and implement corrective measures; this may involve site visits, telephone assistance, remote systems and participation in technical committees.
10. Facilitate the demonstration and training of staff in the use of new hardware or software products.
11. Document procedures and troubleshooting techniques related to systems software and hardware; develop technical documentation and review documentation prior to general distribution.
12. Plan, develop and implement backup and recovery procedures for large systems.
13. Communicate with managers regarding system performance and operational issues. Suggest improvements to management.
14. Research and test new software technologies; report results; recommend software purchases. Learn and implement the new technologies that are brought in. Coordinate and work with vendors when needed. 
15. Attend meetings, workshops, and demonstrations; perform duties and responsibilities as assigned.

CASUAL RECREATION SPECIALIST/LEAD

5 - 25 HOURS/WEEK (Flexible)

Recreation Services Division has multiple program lead staff openings across many recreation programs and activities. We serve youth, adults and older adults and have opportunities for flexible working hours (i.e., morning, after school, evenings, lunch time, weekends, etc.). Individuals may choose to work one assignment or multiple assignments and flexible work hours are possible to accommodate school schedules and/or other commitments.

• Organize and lead activities such as arts & crafts, sports & games, health & fitness
• Supervise participants, volunteers and program support staff during programs/activities
• Take attendance and administer/organize other paperwork and forms as needed
• Issue, maintain and store equipment and supplies
• Suggest and develop activities as appropriate to enhance program/activity
• Interact and communicate effectively with children, parents, caregivers, volunteers and City staff
• Ensure the safety and well-being of program participants, support staff and volunteers
• Responsible for program staff development, training and supervision (i.e. staff meetings)
• Other duties as assigned

• Minimum age: 18 years old
• Two (2) years or two summers (2) of experience in specific program area (recreation, after school, health & fitness) or population (youth, adults, older adults, special population) identified above
• Experience interacting with the public
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions. 
• Experience with staff/volunteer supervision or support

• High School Diploma or GED
• Possess a valid CA Class C driver's license and a safe driving record
• Bilingual in Spanish, Mandarin or Farsi
• Willingness to obtain First Aid/CPR Certification (paid training)
• College courses in education, social service, recreation, human services, etc. 
• Experience working directly with the public in a recreation or education setting.
• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint, Outlook)

• Provide excellent customer service, relating to a wide variety of people, situations and experiences
• Ability to work well with others in team setting or independently
• Assist with collecting fees, taking attendance and sign-in & out procedures
• Assist with program/activity/class set up and break down 
• Other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

• The minimum age is 16
• Experience interacting with the public

• Ability to work independently in the absence of supervision or in team with other staff

ABOUT THE POSITION: Under general supervision, provide instruction and assistance to visitors in the fitness center, enforces all rules and regulations pertaining to the safety and well being of all patrons. Perform related work as required.

Fitness Floor Shift times: Monday-Friday 3:30-6:30pm

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: The following duties are essential to the success of this position:

• Learn basic operation instruction for fitness equipment & teach techniques to visitors
• Monitor guests activities in the fitness center
• Clean, sanitize and ensure that fitness equipment is working properly
• Organize and ensure that fitness floor is orderly, and all equipment is stored safely
• Enforce all rules, regulations, and safety principles
• Answer any general questions from patrons and providing information on fitness programs
• Assume assigned duties connected with care and maintenance of facility
• Maintain certain fitness center records and reports as required
• Deal tactfully and courteously with the public
• Respond professionally to emergencies
• Perform related duties as required

TRAINING & EXPERIENCE: Any combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, abilities and CPR within 3 months of hire.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS: Candidates receiving a conditional job offer must pass a pre-placement fingerprint review. Candidates must be comfortable calling 911 in an emergency and providing care according to the level of training.

ABOUT POSITION:

This position is a part-time, non-benefited position. Work hours may vary, and schedules can be up to 29 hours per week as needed. There are no guaranteed minimum number of hours per week. Hours of operation of the Seal Beach Tennis & Pickleball Center are typically Monday through Friday, 7:00 am - 9:30 pm and Saturday/Sunday from 6:30 am - 5:30 pm.   

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Individual will work primarily at the City’s Seal Beach Tennis & Pickleball Center performing duties including, but not limited to, greeting and supervising patrons, handling of payments inside the Pro Shop, enforcing rules and regulations of the facility, opening/closing the facility, removing trash, restocking supplies, and general court maintenance, including court washing, locker room cleaning, and overall security of the facility.

This position will also work periodically as staff for facility rentals at the City’s community centers for various functions such as wedding receptions, baby showers, and birthday parties. This position may also help assist with scorekeeping for Adult Sports programs, including basketball and softball.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:

Ability to: Communicate effectively (both written and verbally); make good decisions; push, pull, drag, lift or carry equipment/supplies up to 50 lbs., lean, stoop, twist, bend and kneel in performance of job duties. 

Experience & Training: One year experience working for Parks and Recreation Departments or similar experience and general knowledge of tennis and sports is desired.
