DEFINITION: This position reports to the Recreation Coordinator and/or Supervisor managing youth programs. This position involves a high level of management, coordination, and good communication skills. As Camp Director, you will oversee plans, direct and coordinate the daily activities and staff for Mill Valley Recreation Department and Community Center Summer Day Camp Program. You will may have up to 15 part-time staff reporting to you at one time, you may be required to lead the entire camp in coordination and planning on a daily/ weekly basis and you may be asked to arrive early or stay late to oversee/ assist with camp prep and cleaning up. This position requires a commitment to Mill Valley Summer Camp programming and may be between a 20 to 40 hour a week position. 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

• Ability to develop, coordinate, plan, implement and supervise the day-to-day activities, themes and special events for an ongoing summer day camp. 
• Create and maintain a safe and creative camp environment. 
• Demonstrate excellent customer service and communicate effectively with co-workers, parents, and campers. 
• Supervise, direct and motivate subordinate camp counselors and counselors-in-training. 
• Maintain registration, attendance, and activity records; ensure the proper pick-up/drop-off of campers.  

• Encourage good behavior, appropriate manners and active play by both staff and campers.  
• Possess strong leadership skills in one or more of the following areas: arts, crafts, sports, playground games, drama, songs/music, nature or special events. 
• Ability to lead groups of campers in various day camp activities. 
• Motivate staff and campers through example. 
• Must be a team player and have the ability to work independently with minimum supervision. 

• Practice proper hygiene, with oneself and children, to deter the spread of disease (colds, flu, etc). 
• Respond professionally to emergencies, provide care according to the level of training.

TEMPORARY POTTERY INSTRUCTOR

 (Recreation Instructor 2 - Job Code 9523)

Hours: 3 to 9 hours/week. Casual non-benefited employees are limited to working no more than twenty-five (25) hours per week and no more than 900 hours in a fiscal year (July 1-June 30).  

Recreation Services Division is seeking self-motivated, energetic, responsible individuals interested in employment as a pottery instructor for adults. Under general supervision of the Recreation Services Coordinator, pottery instructors are responsible for teaching pottery techniques through lecture and demonstrations.  Classes are run year-round and meet once a week for 3 hours. Class sessions are six weeks long and include a week break for cleaning and restocking after two consecutive class sessions (every 12 weeks).

• Teach pottery/ceramic classes by leading and demonstrating techniques associated with the subject matter
• Maintain a safe, friendly and inclusive class environment for all participants
• Adjust class as appropriate and as needed to meet the various skill levels of participants
• Develop curriculum for each class meeting
• Knowledge of glazing and firing techniques
• Develop projects to keep class interesting for both regular and repeat participants
• Maintain documentation as required

The City of American Canyon Parks & Recreation Department invites energetic, creative and responsible individuals to apply for the position of Program Coordinator. Program Coordinators are part-time, temporary staff members who work under Recreation Coordinators to oversee and implement a wide range of recreation programming. THE POSITION
The City of Sunnyvale is seeking a self-motivated, energetic, responsible individual interested in assisting with the administration and supervision of After School, Camp, Contracted Classes, Pre-School and Teen Programs.  The Project/Grant Assistant 1 aids in the planning, administration and implementation of all programs hosted through the Recreation Services Division, Youth and Teen Unit.

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE  

• Currently employed as a Full Time or Part Time Peace Officer with a California Law Enforcement Agency; or

• Currently working as a Level I Reserve Police Officer with a California Law Enforcement Agency; or

• Retired as a Full Time Peace Officer with a California Law Enforcement Agency; or two years experience as a Peace Officer with a California Law Enforcement Agency and possession of a valid Basic Certificate issued by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training.  

LICENSES &/OR CERTIFICATES

• Possession of a valid driver's license is required; 

• Proof of a current Basic or higher certificate issued by the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) is required at the time of application and for the duration of employment  (Not required for Reserve Police Officers, see below);

• Must have passed Field Training Program with home agency as required by POST;

• Must have passed Probationary Period with home agency;

• The minimum Peace Officer selection standards are set forth in Government Code (GC) Sections 1029, 1031, and 1031.4.  Every California Peace Officer must be: Free from any disqualifications for employment, including felony convictions (GC 1029). Be legally authorized to work in the United States under federal law (GC 1031);

• and at least 21 yrs of age for specified peace officers (GC 1031.4).

PHYSICAL AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

• Must possess visual acuity of not less than 20/80 vision in each eye uncorrected, and corrected to 20/30 in each eye.

 

EXCEPTION:  Applicants with correction afforded by soft contact lenses are exempt from the minimum uncorrected vision standard of 20/80, provided their corrected vision is 20/30 in each eye.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Environment: 

The employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions; extreme cold, extreme heat, potentially hostile environments; extensive public contact. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but may be very loud due to crowd noise, music, sirens, firearm training, etc. Incumbents are required to work various shifts, including evenings and weekends, and may be required to travel to attend meetings or court appearances.

Minimum Requirements:

Desirable Qualifications:
• Paid or volunteer work experience within a law enforcement agency, the U.S. Armed Forces, or a related agency

The Newark Recreation and Community Services Department is seeking enthusiastic individuals who are not only passionate about working with the public but also possess a genuine interest in coaching kids and making a positive impact as role models in their lives. This role involves teaching fundamentals of various sports, coaching, refereeing and scorekeeping for our youth leagues. In addition, this role also oversees our Wednesday adult basketball league.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Confer with other coaches/referees, players and facility managers in order to provide information, coordinate activities, and discuss problems.
• Score keep basketball league games as assigned.
• Maintain gymnasium area including equipment and facility.
• Meet and deal tactfully and effectively with the public.
• Perform other job-related duties within the scope of this job classification as assigned.

The City of Newark is seeking energetic, organized, and responsible individuals who enjoy working with school-age children. Recreation Leaders will assist in the implementation and planning of a wide variety of arts and crafts, sports, games, special events, and excursions. Candidates will work either for the Ash Street Summer program at Ash Street Park or Camp Newark at the Silliman Center.  Both positions require candidates to work in an outdoor environment.
