The City of Fremont currently has a vacancy for the position of Park Maintenance Worker I. The Park Maintenance Worker I performs routine maintenance and repair work in the care of parks, recreation areas and equipment. The selected candidate will be part of a work crew assigned to a daily work detail.

This recruitment will establish a pool of candidates to fill regular and temporary vacancies.

Examples of Job Duties

All Assignments

• Responsible for vehicle and pedestrian traffic safety in work area.
• Manually transports heavy objects, supplies and materials.
• Operate ground maintenance equipment including a backhoe and tractor attachments, as well as a variety of hand and power tools.

Trees Assignment

• Prunes and trims designated street trees to shape and improve growth.
• Operates an aerial pruning platform, brush chipper, chain saw, stump grinder, leaf blower, and pole saw.
• Drives a one-ton truck to locations where work is to be performed.
• Clears areas of leaves, using rake or blower, and remove debris.

Central Parks and Sport Complex Assignment

• Maintains lawns, trees, shrubs, ground cover, picnic tables, benches, and sprinkler systems.
• Irrigates, cultivates, prunes, plants, and transplants a variety of turf, shrubs, trees and plants.

Outlying Parks Assignment

• Maintains lawns, trees, shrubs, ground cover, picnic tables, benches, and sprinkler systems.
• Maintains and make minor repairs to playground/picnic equipment, picnic areas and athletic fields.
• Operates mowing equipment in parks and athletic fields.

Special Assignments

• Performs general painting, plumbing and carpentry.
• Maintains, repairs and renovates irrigation system controllers, valves, pipes, and related components.

THE POSITION

This position is focused on coordinating and monitoring information technology operational systems for the City including analyzing, diagnosing, maintaining, and troubleshooting assigned system areas such as applications, operating systems, and database systems. This position has a wide breadth of responsibility and is the backbone for ensuring the City’s technology systems always stay up and running. An example of duties are:

• Performs configuration, modification, testing and implementation of vendor software; develops, coordinates and implements plans to test business and functional processes during system development and quality assurance testing.
• Assists with the installation of new and existing software; ensures training of staff in the use of new and existing software.
• Conducts systems analysis; develops business and technical requirements; designs functional and technical specifications; writes source code; tests applications.
• Assists with the planning and coordination of migrations from legacy systems and the implementation of ongoing maintenance of new computer systems.
• Performs technical and functional troubleshooting and on-call support; installs and tests upgrades and system patches; tracks problems and requests for system enhancements and upgrades and resolve problems as they occur.
• Installs, configures, and maintains SQL server, including capacity planning, installation and configuration of SQL management tool and client uses.
• Provides support for specific department applications; tests programs and applications from user’s perspective.
• Coordinates, develops, and performs data export and import routines between applications.
• Acts as a technical resource for staff; identifies and suggests alternatives and recommends process changes through information systems; assists in identifying potential and required changes to business processes and/or procedures.
• Performs related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree with major coursework in MIS, business, management, or a closely related field;

AND

Four (4) years of progressively responsible professional experience in computer technology.

Technical certifications are highly desirable.

Licenses and Certifications

A valid California Class C driver license or higher with a satisfactory driving record is required at the time of appointment. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

THE POSITION:

The City of San Rafael Public Works Department is seeking a full-time Parks Maintenance Worker I/II.  Under general supervision, this position performs a variety of tasks involving the maintenance, repair, improvement and cleaning of parks, park buildings, recreational facilities, and related areas. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (including but not limited to):

• Mows and edges lawns, ball fields, and other turf using edgers and walk behinds and riding reel, rotary, and flail mowers.
• Prunes, trims, shapes and manicures shrubs, hedges, and small trees.
• Irrigates using manual and automatic irrigation devices.
• Rakes, sweeps, and uses power blower or vacuum to clear leaves and debris.
• Weeds beds, prepares soil, and plants trees, shrubs and plants.
• Repairs vandalism to park facility plumbing, walls and paint.
• Cleans park rest rooms, walkways, patios, and related areas.
• Picks up litter and trash in parks, on and along street islands, and in other areas.
• Maintains ball fields including dirt areas, striping, and turf.
• Adjusts and performs routine maintenance of equipment.
• Installs, adjusts, and repairs sprinkler systems and related plumbing including valves, heads, time clocks, and PVC, galvanized and copper pipes.
• Maintains swimming pools including measuring chemical conditions.
• Operates trenchers, dump trucks, backhoes and loaders, and other tractor attachments to excavate, load, move grade or smooth dirt, materials, and trees; operates street sweeper to clean large paved areas.
• Prepares forms, mixes, pours and finishes concrete.
• Participates in emergency Public Works repairs and maintenance including work in other sections of the department.
• Works emergencies and special events.
• May mix chemicals and operate equipment to apply fertilizers and pesticide.
• Operates vehicles with trailers.
• Performs related duties as assigned.

Parks Maintenance Worker I:

• Use and maintenance of basic hand and power tools common to the field.

Parks Maintenance Worker II: (In addition to the requirements of Parks Maintenance Worker I)

• Use and maintenance of basic hand and power tools common to the field.
• Plants, trees, and landscaping materials.
• Methods, materials, tools and equipment used in groundskeeping.
• Installation and maintenance of landscape irrigation systems and basic plumbing.
• Swimming pool operation and maintenance.
• Methods, materials, tools and equipment used in basic carpentry and concrete work.
• Operation and operator maintenance of a variety of power tools and equipment.
• Safe working practices including traffic barriers and protective clothing and devices.

Parks Maintenance Worker I:

• Operate a vehicle with trailer.
• Use basic hand and power tools common to groundskeeping.
• Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
• Operate a variety of power tools and equipment.

Parks Maintenance Worker II: (In addition to the requirements of Parks Maintenance Worker I)

• Operate hand and power mowers, edgers, saws, pruners, tractors, tractor attachments such as back hoes and loaders, sprayers, trucks, blowers, etc.
• Prune, plant, and irrigate turf, landscape and trees.
• Install, repair, and adjust landscape sprinkler systems.
• Identify plant disease, nutrient, watering and related problems.
• Perform basic carpentry and concrete work required for vandalism repair and park improvements.
• Maintain sanitary and safe swimming pool conditions including sampling and adding chemicals, and maintaining gas chlorine systems.
• Mix and apply pesticides and fertilizers.
• Ability to perform or learn to perform traffic control setups necessary to complete daily assignments.
• Ability to operate or learn to operate a computer and work-related software.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Able to read, speak and write English
• Incumbents assigned to this job classification are subject to Department of Transportation’s Drug and Alcohol Regulations if they possess a Class B driver’s license and opt to utilize the license on the job.

Parks Maintenance Worker I:

• Previous work experience involving groundskeeping, horticulture, and irrigation is preferred.

Parks Maintenance Worker II:

• Three years of work experience involving groundskeeping

MTC’s Technology Services Section (TSS) is a mature IT organization serving approximately 400 customers. The diverse and inclusive section employs a team of dedicated professionals that exhibit outstanding emotional intelligence and outstanding customer service traits. The team provides support to building technology in the 500,000 square foot Bay Area Metro Center. TSS also operates a shared services organization that serves two additional government agencies for a total of approximately 1,000 customers. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants with a degree issued from an institution outside the United States must have their transcripts evaluated by an academic accrediting service and provide proof of equivalency along with their application.  Alternatively, a Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.

Experience: Minimum of six (6) years of increasingly responsible experience effectively leading and managing a division or department doing related work. Experience should include a minimum of four (4) years senior management experience in agency administration, operations, management or similar position. Managing administrative support services; budget development, analysis and management; business or public administration; presenting to boards, commissions and/or committees, responding to public inquiries and requests, reporting to executive management.

Preferred Experience:  At least 5-7 years in IT Management

License/Certificate:  Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license and a safe driving record, or the ability to provide alternate transportation which is approved by the appointing authority.

The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Program Manager II in the Information Technology Department! In this role, you will perform as a technical portfolio manager overseeing staff assigned to function as project managers. You will be responsible for establishing, implementing and maintaining an enterprise IT portfolio management program to ensure that IT projects and programs are planned and delivered according to business unit demands and priority. The Information Technology Department’s Development Services Solutions team is seeking qualified candidates to fill the Information System Analyst positions to support the development and maintenance for several Off-The-Shelf (OTS) and custom systems and applications that support operations of the Planning, Building, Code Enforcement department and the Development Services process at the City of San Jose. The primary role of this position is to act as technical lead in supporting and managing diverse departmental business systems that include web and client servers’ application, database, Permitting and Compliance, public web portal, Business Intelligence, GIS, Inspection scheduling/Dispatch, Digital Inspection and performing all duties necessary for maintaining, supporting and optimize systems.  This position must ensure business processes for users are documented and that systems meet customer expectations.  This position is responsible for ongoing user training, report creation, systems administrations, system support, maintenance, and programming efforts and must maintain excellent customer relations.
