The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Camp Maintenance Mechanic (Non-Career Intermittent) in the Parks, Recreation and Waterfront Department! In this role, you will have the opportunity to keep our camps running smoothly by performing both routine and heavy, physical work in the construction, maintenance, repair and cleaning of camp facilities. You'll operate a variety of hand and power tools to perform preventive maintenance and repair.

Our two overnight camps are located near South Lake Tahoe and Yosemite. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position is: Equivalent to graduation from high school, and one (1) year of experience in construction and maintenance.

State of California Drinking Water Treatment Certifications (Grade 1 or 2) desirable. Must possess and maintain a valid California non-commercial (Class C) driver's license, and have a satisfactory driving record. Must possess sufficient strength and stamina to lift and carry objects weighing up to 80 pounds and be able to perform sustained heavy physical labor. Must be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions and on off-hour shifts in emergency situations.

California Education Code Section 10911.5 requires that all public recreation program employers must fingerprint all persons having direct contact with a minor. The City does not hire persons who have been convicted of felony drug, sexual assault or physical assault crimes.

Minimum Qualifications for consideration: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education/Training: Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.

Experience: Two years of general maintenance experience performing field maintenance work within the assigned area of responsibility.

The County of Yuba is currently recruiting for the position of Public Health Nurse Intern/Public Health Nurse in the Health and Human Services Department. This position provides the full range of public health nursing services including teaching, health assessment, and counseling services in homes, clinics, schools and community centers in connection with the prevention and control of diseases and adverse health conditions. Public Health Nurse Intern: is a recruiting and training level class established to qualify candidates for duties as a PHN in Yuba County Health & Human Services Department. Upon satisfactory completion of the PHN Certification, the PHN Intern are eligible for promotion to the level of PHN. Incumbents who do not successfully complete the PHN certification as prescribed herein may be released from employment.

Public Health Nurse: is the entry level in this class series. Initially under close supervision, incumbents learn and perform a variety of public health nursing duties in assigned program areas. As experience is gained, assignments become more complex and are performed under more general supervision.

 Creation of Bicycle Advisory Commission      

A Bicycle Advisory Commission of the Town of Danville is hereby established.  The Commission shall consist of six (6) regular members, one of whom shall be a Youth Commissioner.

Qualifications

All members of the Commission shall have experience, training, occupation, or education demonstrating a knowledge of and interest in bicycling.  Members of the Commission shall represent an inclusive cross-section of interests in bicycling such as recreational cyclists (road and mountain biking), commuters, families, seniors and youth, and merchants interested in cycling and cycling safety.

Powers and Duties

Advise the Town Council and Town Staff on matters related to:

1. Implementation of the Town’s Bicycle Master Plan;
2. Conditions, operations and safety of existing bicycle facilities and other non-motorized forms of transportation;
3. Review of proposed bicycle-related policies, programs, projects, plans, funding applications, and legislation;
4. Coordination with the public including bicycle-related organizations, the business community, and other local agencies to promote cycling projects and programs; and
5. Development and dissemination of bicycle awareness and education materials to the community.

Term of Office

For the initial five appointments to the Commission except the Youth Commissioner, two of the members shall be appointed to two-year terms and three shall be appointed to four-year terms.  All subsequent appointments shall be for four-year terms.  The term of the Youth Commissioner shall be two years.

Time and Place of Regular Meetings

The Commission shall hold at least one regular quarterly meeting.  The Commission shall fix the time and place of its regular meetings by resolution and may call special meetings as necessary.  All meetings of the Commission are open to the public and the Commission shall give notice of its meetings as required by law.

Absence from Meetings

If a member of the Commission is absent without cause from three (3) consecutive regular meetings of the Commission, that member’s office shall be vacant automatically. The Commission shall immediately notify the Town Council of the vacancy. A member is not absent without cause if that member’s absence is (1) due to illness or (2) unavoidable, and the member gives the Secretary of the Commission notice before the day of the regular meeting at which the member will be absent and giving the reason for the absence. 

Removal or Vacancy

A member of the Commission may be removed by a majority vote of the Council.  A vacancy is filled in the same manner as the original appointment.  A person appointed to fill a vacancy serves for the remainder of the unexpired term.  

No Compensation

Members of the Commission shall not receive compensation for their attendance at Commission meetings but are entitled to reimbursement for reasonable expenses actually incurred in the course of their duties, provided that such reimbursement shall first be approved by the Town Council. 

Adoption of Rules

The Commission shall adopt rules for the transaction of its business and shall keep a public record of its resolutions, transactions, findings, and determinations. 

Residency Requirement

All members of the Commission shall be residents of the Town of Danville.

Qualifications and Role of Youth Commissioner

The Town Council shall appoint a Youth Commissioner to serve on the Commission to represent the interests of Danville youth. The Youth Commissioner shall be a Danville resident of high school age. The Youth Commissioner shall have the same obligations and authority of all other commissioners.

Officers and their Duties

The Commission shall elect a Chair and Vice-Chair from among its members. The Chair and the Vice-Chair serve for a term of one (1) year and until the successor of each is appointed and qualified.  The Chair shall preside at all meetings of the Commission, shall appoint committees of the Commission as needed, and shall perform such additional duties as are necessary and incidental to the office.  The Vice-Chair shall perform the duties of the Chair on such occasions as the Chair shall be unavailable or unable to perform such duties.

Brown Act and Conflicts of Interest

The Commission shall be subject to and conduct its business in compliance with the Ralph M. Brown Act, California Government Code, Section 54950 et seq. The members of the Commission shall be subject to the provisions of the Town’s Conflict of Interest Code.

ABOUT THE POSITION:

The Seasonal Maintenance Worker position performs a variety of entry-level and unskilled labor, maintenance and repair tasks in various public works operations, such as park maintenance, landscape maintenance, creek and catch basin maintenance, street maintenance, and janitorial and facility maintenance.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain insight and experience for a rewarding career in local government.

Typically, work hours are scheduled between Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.  Some hours may be adjusted for special events in evening or on weekends; up to 29 hours per week.

This is a part-time, temporary position with limited duration.

EXAMPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform preparatory work for maintenance activities – gathering equipment, materials and supplies, loading and unloading, and laying out materials and equipment for projects
• Perform a variety of routine physical labor tasks, depending upon area of assignment, such as posting general notices, pulling weeds, picking up litter, raking leaves and debris, planting, miscellaneous painting, replacing light bulbs, emptying trash bins, cleaning park bathroom daily and other minor custodial work
• Perform cleanup at the end of the day or when job is completed, including picking up tools and clearing work areas of spills and debris
• Operate power tools such as power washer, leaf blower and weed eater, as well as basic hand tools such as brooms, shovels, rakes and hoes
• Assist with daily and weekly trash pick-up on park grounds and Town trash receptacles
• Assist with other maintenance duties as assigned

LARPD is seeking a summer intern to support the Community Outreach Department.  Applicants should have the equivalent of one year of college credits completed toward a degree.  Candidates interested in learning about communications, content creation, and social media with a government agency will be given preference.  Interested candidates should complete an application online. The intern will be responsible for key deliverables while learning about special districts and the Livermore community.

Community Outreach Communications Project Plan 

The Community Outreach team is seeking a summer intern for a 10–12-week assignment.  The goal of the internship is to gain valuable experience capturing and creating content, assisting throughout the district.  

Key duties 

• Visit Summer Programs to Capture Video and Photo content 

• Draft Program Highlight and Promotional Social Posts 

• Edit Community Facing District-Wide Videos 

• Assist with District-Wide Communications including Email Newsletters, Website, and social media. 

Key deliverables will be: 

• Create two to three 30 second videos highlighting LARPD’s impact on the community. 

• Update District Parks and Facilities Guide for Website  

• Capturing photo/video content from summer programs 

What learning will occur for the intern? 

• Learn to effectively communicate the LARPD brand identity across various channels, including social media, website, and content creation, by maintaining consistency in voice, tone, and messaging. 

• Gain hands-on experience in managing social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, YouTube, Instagram) by creating engaging content, scheduling posts, monitoring audience engagement, and analyzing performance metrics to optimize strategies. 

• Learn website management by assisting with content updates, uploading new information, ensuring website functionality, and implementing best practices to enhance online visibility and user experience. 

• Develop skills in content creation, including writing engaging copy, designing visuals, and creating multimedia content such as videos, graphics, and infographics to convey key messages and engage the target audience. 

• Gain proficiency in video editing software to assist in creating and editing promotional videos, event highlights, and educational content for various communication channels, while adhering to branding guidelines and storytelling principles. 

Timing 

June-August 9th.  Interns may start and end later but need to be present for the core Sessions slated for the entire month of June, July and through August 9th.  

Work hours will be Monday – Friday, 25-30 hours per week during the 12 weeks of employment.  The pay rate will be $20 per hour.  All interns will be required to successfully complete a Department of Justice fingerprint clearance and undergo a TB test as a condition of employment.

POSITION

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The Ideal Candidate for this position will have previous facility maintenance experience, although not required. The Ideal Candidate will be able to follow directions, demonstrate good communication skills (orally and in writing), be flexible, have good attendance, a positive attitude and a willingness to take on new tasks as requested.  The ability to speak and understand Spanish is a desirable quality.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

A primary function of this position is janitorial services. Will include set up and cleanup of special events. Prepare simple activity and related reports; maintain inventory and work records as required. Perform other facility maintenance duties as assigned. Work cooperatively with others. Regular and consistent attendance.

QUALIFICATIONS
Facility Maintenance Worker I

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Experience: Six (6) months of work experience in carpentry, electrical and maintenance work is desirable.

SALARY
Facility Maintenance Worker I:                 
$21.12 - $26.96 per hour

Intern:                                                            
$16.50 - $20.50 per hour

WORK HOURS
Position works approximately 16-20 hours per week in the afternoons and evenings, and will require some weekend hours.
