About the Highway Program Deputy Director

The Highway Program Deputy Director, reporting to the Chief of Engineering and Program Delivery, manages a diverse and talented team of seasoned staff who is well-versed on the delivery of capital projects related to the State highway system and other roadways in the county. This position is responsible for directing and leading collaboration on planning, design development (including technical analysis in support of preliminary engineering and final design), project-related right-of-way activities (in coordination with VTA Real Estate), construction management and close out, overall program/project management (including scopes, costs, schedules and quality of work), management of staff resources (both VTA and consultant), coordination with project stakeholders within VTA and beyond (e.g., local agencies, Caltrans, federal agencies, resources agencies, utilities, etc.), and community and other outreach (working with VTA public information and government affairs staff).
 

The City of Lincoln is accepting applications for a Seasonal Maintenance Worker I in the Solid Waste Division of the Public Works Department.

This position is limited to 999 hours per fiscal year and is unbenefited. This position may become a regular/full-time position, dependent upon the future needs of the department.

Under general supervision, the incumbent learns to, and performs the full array of duties assigned to classes in the Maintenance Worker series including maintenance, construction and equipment operation work and performs other related duties as required.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

The Maintenance Worker I is the entry level class responsible for a wide variety of maintenance and construction tasks.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED

The Maintenance Worker I receives general supervision from a Public Works Supervisor or designee. Incumbents of this class do not routinely exercise supervision.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Include but are not limited to the following:

• Solid Waste: Operates a variety of collection vehicles and equipment including front, rear and side loaders in the collection and transportation of residential and commercial refuse; drives to landfill site when vehicle is full and unloads material; evaluates and updates assigned routes; cleans, maintains and inspects assigned vehicles; maintains daily logs.
• Performs maintenance, repair, construction, and  equipment operation, and refuse collection. 
• Demonstrates a full understanding of applicable policies, procedures and work methods associated with assigned duties; responds to questions and concerns from the general public; provides information as is appropriate and resolves public service complaints.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Position requires sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties. The position also requires both near and far vision when inspecting work and operating assigned equipment. The need to lift, carry and push tools, equipment and supplies weighing 25 pounds or more is also required. Additionally, the incumbent in this outdoor position works in all weather conditions including wet, hot and cold. The incumbent may use cleaning and lubricating chemicals, pesticides or herbicides which may expose the employee to fumes, dust and air contaminants. The nature of the work also requires the incumbent to climb ladders, use power and noise producing tools and equipment, operate hydraulic aerial devices, drive motorized vehicles and heavy equipment, work in heavy vehicle traffic conditions and often work with constant interruptions.

THE POSITION

The Parks and Recreation Department is looking for staff to assist with events at the Rocklin Events Center and other locations in the City. The Events Venue Specialist (Program Assistant) is a temporary position and incumbents work on an as-needed basis, not to exceed 28 hours per week and up to 999 hours per fiscal year. Temporary employment does not provide any guarantee of continued employment and the City of Rocklin may end the assignment at any time. Temporary employees are not eligible for any other benefits except where required by law and there is no guarantee of future permanent employment.

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:

• Performs light janitorial duties (e.g., empty trash, clean restrooms, and restock supplies) before, during, and after events.
• Sets up audio visual equipment at venue site.
• Checks clients in and out of City venues.
• Takes prospective renters on tours of facilities and answers questions about pricing and equipment at each rental location.
• Ensures client needs are met.

THE  SCHEDULE 

A typical schedule looks like this:

DEFINITION

To perform a variety of skilled work involving the trimming, removal, installation, and general maintenance of trees; to operate and maintain all tree maintenance equipment; and to perform related work as required.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This is the journey level class in the Tree Maintenance class series. Positions in this class perform duties requiring greater skill and experience. All positions assigned to the class require the ability to exercise judgment and initiative, and to direct the activities of lower-level staff in tree maintenance operations.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives general supervision from the Parks Supervisor. Lead supervision is also provided by the Tree Lead Worker.

Exercises technical or functional supervision over lower level and less experienced personnel.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (include but are not limited to the following)

·      Climbs trees using ladders and climbing equipment or works from bucket of an aerial lift truck boom to perform tree maintenance tasks, pruning, limb removal, or line clearing.

·       Establishes safe work zones and adheres to safe work practices including the use of personal protective equipment.

·       Directs the work of the immediate support crew in a safe and effective manner.

·       Operates all types of tree maintenance equipment such as aerial lift trucks, chainsaws, brush chippers, sprayers, stump grinders, or other tools and equipment.

·       Keeps records of work performed, including damage to property.

·       Assists in the training and supervision of lower-level staff.

·       Maintains tree maintenance equipment.

·       Responds to inquiries from the general public regarding tree maintenance work and explains City tree policies.

·       Confers with Tree Lead Worker to plan, review work projects, and make suggestions to better implement the work program.

·       Performs the duties of the Tree Lead Worker in his/her absence.

·       Responds to emergency calls outside of normal work hours as required.

Knowledge of: Materials, equipment and methods used in care, trimming and removal of trees; tree planting, and maintenance methods; pruning standards of the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA). Principles of training. Safety measures relating to the pruning, removal and general maintenance of trees in populated areas.

Ability to: Direct activities of immediate subordinates; perform manual labor; monitor supplies and materials; analyze situations and adopt effective courses of action; set up safe work sites in traffic, learn the geography of the city; work cooperatively with other City crews; establish and sustain work routines. Perform aerial rescues. Perform high climbing and pruning work in City trees. Skills: Ability to safely and efficiently operate aerial lifts, brush chippers, tractors and implements, spray rigs, front end loader, blower, chain saws, stumpers and cutters, gas pole saw, hydraulic tools, shop tools, limb lowering devices. Rig trees for safe and efficient high climbing.

QUALIFICATIONS: (The following are minimal qualifications necessary for entry into the classification.)

Education and/or Experience: Sufficient education and experience to perform the above duties efficiently. Typically, this is obtained through achievement of Certified Tree Worker status, and equivalent to the completion of twelfth grade supplemented by specialized training in tree care work.

License/Certificates: Possession of valid 'Class C' California Motor Vehicle Operators License; Certified Tree Worker Certificate (ISA) and Certified Line Clearance certificate within one year of appointment; and First aid and CPR certificate within one year of appointment.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

A Responsible individual is needed to maintain and enforce proper city procedures and policies in our parks, parking lots and ball fields.   Park monitors will perform park inspections and enforce park policies, supervise patrons, renters and daily facility management. Selection Process

The process will consist of an Oral Panel Interview (weighted 80%) and a written exercise (weighted 20%). Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university with major course work in civil or traffic engineering and five years of increasingly responsible traffic engineering experience, three years of which were at a level equivalent to the Assistant Transportation Engineer class. Progressively responsible related experience may be substituted for the college course work on a year for year basis.

Other requirements include possession of a valid California Registration as a professional Traffic Engineer or a professional Civil Engineer. A CA Registration as a Traffic Engineer is preferred. Position Details:

Under general supervision of Recreation Services Supervisor, the Water Safety Instructor provides direction to Swim Instructor/Lifeguard staff at an assigned facility and ensures that the City of San Bruno guidelines, safety policies and procedures are being followed. The Water Safety Instructor ensures a safe and clean environment for customers, implements preventative Lifeguarding procedures, while monitoring programs. In emergencies, they must determine proper action and direct staff.  This position may be responsible for opening and closing buildings, managing swimming pool patrons and activities, monitoring facility use including facility and guest safety during rentals, setting up tables and chairs for rentals, City programs and events, performing light janitorial and custodial duties, ensuring compliance of established rules and procedures for the use of facilities, and performing other duties as required.

Working Conditions:

Supplemental Position Information:

Part-time temporary employees serve in an at-will capacity and understand that service with the City may be dismissed at any time. This position does not provide any benefits, apart from paid sick leave. In accordance with the Healthy Workplaces, Healthy Families Act of 2014, all temporary, part-time, and seasonal employees, who on or after July 1, 2015, work in California for 30 or more days within a year from the commencement of employment are entitled to paid sick leave for prescribed purposes.  Employees will accrue one hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked and are entitled to use accrued sick days beginning on the 90th day of employment. Employees may use up to 40 hours (or 5 days) of accrued sick leave in each year of employment.

The Department: The Suisun City Police Department is a progressive and proactive law enforcement agency. • Section 125 Plan: Dependent care and out-of-pocket medical costs may be paid on a pre-tax basis
• Sick Leave:  Earned at the rate of one day per month, with no maximum accrual
• Vacation: Earned at the rate of one day per month in the first year, increasing with service years; Lateral accrual rate may include years of service at former agency
• Holidays: City recognizes 14 paid holidays per year
• Uniform Allowance: $1,080 per year, adjusted annually per cost of living
• Shift Differential Pay: 5% of the employee’s base hourly wage
• Educational Degree Incentive: 1.25% AA Degree or 60 semester/90 quarter units; 5% Bachelor’s Degree or 120 semester/180 quarter units; 7.5% MA/MS Degree
• Educational Expense Reimbursement: City will reimburse for tuition, books and technology upgrades up to $500 per semester or quarter
• On Duty Exercise Program: 1 hour per shift
• Probationary Period: One year (12 months)

Resumes will not be accepted in lieu of a City employment application.  Typing certification of 40 wpm net (5 minute test taken within the last 12 months) must be submitted with application.  Currently employed lateral applicants from a POST certified agency are not required to submit a typing certificate. Certificates will only be accepted from a recognized business, adult school, or employment agency. Online typing test results will not be accepted. Applications received without a valid typing certificate, or not meeting the minimum words per minute (40 wpm net) will not be considered and applicants will not be contacted to correct the deficiency.

SELECTION PROCESS

CONTINUOUS RECRUITMENT: Candidates are encouraged to apply early.  Initial screening of applications is tentatively set for March 29, 2024.  After that, applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis.  You must ensure complete submission of employment application and typing certificate as recruitment may close at any time.  The most qualified applicants based on background and experience as evidenced by their application, will be invited for an oral board interview, which is weighted 100%.  To be placed on an eligibility list, an applicant must receive a passing score of 70 or more from each panel member.

A thorough background check, as well as a physical, drug screen, psychological evaluation, and polygraph exam will be conducted on the top candidates prior to appointment consideration.  Failure to achieve a qualifying score on any portion of the examination process will eliminate a candidate from further consideration.
