THE POSITION:

The ideal candidate for Police Officer will be an individual with a high commitment to customer service, a proven record of integrity, and the ability to work comfortably in a small-town atmosphere enjoyed by the residents of Atherton.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Must possess a valid California Class C Driver’s license and have a satisfactory driving record; POST certification to include demonstrated firearms proficiency and qualification; complete a comprehensive background investigation including a polygraph, psychological, and medical examination. 

TYPICAL DUTIES:

Applicants must be able to apply the knowledge and skills required of a sworn police officer, and display the ability to perform the following: patrol the Town in an assigned area, individually or as part of a team; provide information, directions and assistance to the public in a variety of situations; take reports and assist the public with complaints; observe, monitor and control routine and unusual traffic situations; stop motorists for various vehicle code violations, and issue traffic citations or give verbal warnings; make arrests for criminal offenses; serve warrants and subpoenas; transport individuals for medical clearance and booking at the County facility; be available to work a wide range of schedules that may include weekends, holidays, and night shifts.

COMPENSATION PACKAGE:

The current monthly salary for these positions ranges depending on the job title and experience.

Police Trainee - $8709.15 per month;  Police Officer - $10,538.83 - $12,810.01.

The Finance Department has a $24.2 million operating budget and 134 budgeted full-time equivalent (FTE) positions. Reporting directly to the City's Chief Procurement Officer, the Program Manager will work both independently and collaboratively, and will exhibit cross-functional expertise in procurement, contracting and information technology. The Program Manager will have five (5) direct reports (Senior Analysts) and five (5) indirect reports (4 Analysts and 1 Buyer) and will provide leadership, development, and mentorship for the reports. The essential job duties of this Program Manager position include:

• Plan, direct, and manage multiple procurement and contracting services for City departments.
• Lead all major Information Technology (IT) procurements.
• Work closely with the IT Department and City Departments on purchasing, contracting, and ongoing vendor management for all enterprise systems, including Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS), payroll, online permitting, Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems, mobile data computers for the Police Department, and all network upgrades.
• Analyze, negotiate, and maintain the City's IT software licensing agreements.
• Provide guidance and assistance to City staff with developing scope of work and specifications for IT procurements.
• Evaluate procurement requests by City staff and advice on the appropriate procurement vehicles.
• Oversee preparation and issuance of documentation required for competitive solicitations including but not limited to Requests for Proposals (RFPs), Requests for Information (RFIs), and Requests for Qualifications (RFQs).
• Negotiate, prepare, and write complex contracts; negotiate and review contract amendments and change orders.
• Provide leadership, direction, and assistance to City departments on procurement and contract negotiation activities.
• Write and present action memoranda to the City Council and City Council Committees.
• Provide procurement-related training to City staff.
• Represent the Finance Department on cross department projects and meetings.

DEFINITION: Under general supervision, performs a variety of preventative maintenance, repairs, and installation of water pollution control plant, sewage pumping facilities, and equipment; maintains accurate maintenance records; orders and maintains an inventory of supplies, parts, and other frequently used items; and performs related duties as assigned.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

Treatment Plant Maintenance Worker I is distinguished from Treatment Plant Maintenance Worker II in that the Treatment Plant Maintenance Worker II level requires a higher level of certification and is able to perform a broader range of duties more independently.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED AND RECEIVED 

Receives general supervision from supervisory or management staff in assigned department.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The duties listed below are illustrative only and are not meant to be a full and exhaustive listing of all of the duties and responsibilities of the position.

• Maintains and repairs pumps, motors, plumbing, electrical, and exercise and lubricate machinery within the plant; records and maintains accurate maintenance records in a daily log book;
• Orders supplies and materials; orders inventory of frequently used parts, oil, and filters for equipment used in the plant;
• Completes monthly work orders and enters information regarding maintenance tasks into the system; records SCADA; records hours on equipment and meters; makes entries into the end of the month report and prints work order summary;
• Generates new maintenance work orders for each month; prioritizes tasks to be performed on Water Pollution Control Plant equipment;
• Performs cleanup of the plant, removing trash, washing down decks, and clearing leaves and branches from storm drains; cleans tools and makes sure equipment is in proper locations and power tools are in safe working condition;
• Changes oil and filters on various pumps and compressors in the plant; maintains safety inspections of fire extinguishers, eye wash stations, and ladders in the plant;
• Removes and replaces packing from various pumps in the plant; installs new rings of packing with new Lantern rings if damaged; applies grease to the new set of packing for proper lubrication; removes corrosion or debris from packing gland before reinstalling;
• Evaluates pump performance and flow rate to determine if pump has excessive buildup of rags that is affecting its performance and efficiency; shuts down pumps to remove rags from impeller and clears any obstructions;
• Replaces damaged parts/fittings on leaking chemical feed pumps; makes alterations to existing supply tubing or fittings, replacing clamps or O-rings, or removing debris caught in the check valves; inspects, tests, calibrates, adjusts, cleans, and paints equipment in the water pollution control plant; and
• Performs related duties as assigned.

JOB-RELATED QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of: Principles, practices, and techniques of the installation, maintenance, and repair of water treatment plan systems; operation of various hand and power tools; proper procedures to safely perform maintenance on machinery and equipment in the plant; maintenance for MP2 program; recording and updating repair history on water pollution control plant equipment; how to create new work orders and close out completed work orders; forklift operations and scissor lift; replacing, repairing, and installing piping, fittings, and valves on water pollution control equipment; data entry of important, vital information regarding maintenance repairs; performance and evaluation on future preventative maintenance in the WPCP MP2 program; proper protective equipment.

Ability to: Drive and operate vehicles and equipment safely; keep inventory, order, and stock necessary parts and supplies for the maintenance shop; establish and maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of the work; adhere to prescribed policies, procedures, routines, and practices; carry out assignments with minimal instructions; read and understand written instructions, maps, equipment operation manuals, and other written documents associated with the work; effectively schedule work; effectively keep written records.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING GUIDELINES

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities. A typical way would be:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent (GED). Technical training in a water treatment plant system or related field is desirable.

Experience: One (1) year of full-time experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of pollution control plant and sewage pumping facilities.

Licenses: Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license, obtain and maintain a California Class B Driver’s License, and a satisfactory driving record. CWEA Certification as a Grade I Mechanical Technologist.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Respond to work at any hour of the day or night, within designated timeframe, as required during afterhours, weekend service, and/or emergency situations; carry communication equipment in order to respond after work hours. Vision, hearing, and physical ability adequate to obtain and maintain a California Class B Driver’s License; speak clearly and understandably. Requires moderate and sometimes strenuous exertion including bending, stooping, crouching, crawling, climbing, lifting, twisting, digging, carrying, and/or handling material weighing up to one hundred (100) pounds. Work in confined spaces and wear protective equipment. May work in conditions that require exposure to noise, odors, chemical and biological agents, gases, and contact with sanitary wastewater; work at heights up to 20 feet; work in varying temperatures of cold and heat, and in inclement weather for extended periods of time; work in conditions that may contain dust, mold, and various chemicals.

A Dispatcher II is a civilian employee of the Police Department who performs a variety of tasks in the Department’s Support Services Division. The Dispatcher II acts as the Department’s primary dispatcher, receiving and relaying incoming calls for emergency and non-emergency assistance; dispatching police units; operating a variety of telecommunications equipment including radio, telephone, and computer-aided dispatch systems; status monitoring, records and file maintenance in a computer-aided environment; and entry level dispatch training. A Dispatcher II may be assigned to work various hours, shifts, holidays, weekends and overtime.

Additional duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: prioritize requests for service based upon available resources, receive radio requests and handle accordingly, type, process and file a wide variety of reports and materials including memos, letters, complaints, declarations, warrants, citations, crime and traffic reports.  Assists Department personnel and the public in person and by phone performing record checks, collecting fees and mailing requested reports to outside agencies in accordance with established regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS

Have a combination of education and work experience, including a minimum of 1 year of dispatch work; general office work involving typing of varied materials, public contact, general filing and basic record keeping; type at least 40 wpm (net).  Have knowledge of business English, spelling; modern office practices and procedures; record keeping. Ability to dispatch police units quickly and effectively; work under pressure; exercise independent judgment; work with minimal supervision; make sound decisions in emergency situations; learn assigned clerical tasks readily and to adhere to prescribed routine; write English legibly; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public; operate computer-aided dispatch system, 911 emergency telephone, and other multi-line telephone systems, various law enforcement telecommunications systems, radio console with headsets and handsets, computer keyboards, cameras, intercoms, security. Willingness to work varying shifts and radio dispatching skills.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

The City of Pleasant Hill offers a competitive compensation and benefits program.

• Salary:  $6,538 to $8,468 per month. Placement within the range depends on experience and qualifications.  
• Medical Benefits: Choice of coverage with Kaiser or Blue Shield. The City pays 80% of monthly premiums at each coverage level. In lieu of medical coverage, the City will contribute $400 (employee only coverage) or $500 (employee + 1 coverage) or $600 (family coverage) into a MissionSquare 457 deferred compensation plan

SELECTION PROCESS

CONTINUOUS RECRUITMENT: Candidates are encouraged to apply early.  Initial screening of applications is tentatively set for March 29, 2024.  After that, applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis.  You must ensure complete submission of employment application and typing certificate as recruitment may close at any time.  The most qualified applicants based on background and experience as evidenced by their application, will be invited for an oral board interview, which is weighted 100%.  To be placed on an eligibility list, an applicant must receive a passing score of 70 or more from each panel member.

A thorough background check, as well as a physical, drug screen, psychological evaluation, and polygraph exam will be conducted on the top candidates prior to appointment consideration.  Failure to achieve a qualifying score on any portion of the examination process will eliminate a candidate from further consideration.

THE DEPARTMENT
The Burlingame Police Department is a municipal, full service, community oriented department.  We offer a variety of investigative, preventative, and community policing programs to both protect and serve a community that spans five square miles and is home to more than 28,000 residents.

The Burlingame Police Department is divided into two divisions: Operations and Administration.  The force currently consists of 40 police officers, made up of the Chief of Police, 1 Captain, 2 Lieutenants, 6 Sergeants, 6 Corporals, 2 Inspectors, and 22 Patrol Officers.

POSITION
Burlingame Police Officers are responsible for preventing crime, arresting law violators, directing traffic, etc.  In that capacity, officers may also serve in special assignments such as K-9, detective, SWAT, hostage teams, FTO, and motorcycle patrol.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

• Patrol various areas within the City by driving a police vehicle or by walking to prevent criminal activity, to enforce various laws, regulations, and codes.
• Respond to radio dispatched calls and reports to crime scenes or locations of disorder to protect life and property.

• Finger print and take palm prints from arrestees.
• Use departmentally issued firearms safely and safety equipment.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Candidates must be a US Citizen, at least 21 years of age on date of appointment, a US high school graduate (or GED equivalent), have no felony convictions or disqualifying criminal history.  Must be able to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions, read, comprehend, write, and speak English effectively.

Entry Level - Proof of completing the POST Written Test and Physical Agility Test with a passing score.

Lateral Police Officer - To be considered for a lateral Police Officer appointment, candidates must have prior experience as a sworn law enforcement officer within the past twelve (12) months, including the completion of the field training program and probation period with a law enforcement agency.

SELECTION PROCESS:

The Dixon Police Department is opening two positions for a Police Recruit to attend the Police Academy in July of 2024. The “Police Recruit” classification at the City of Dixon Police Department provides a unique opportunity for candidates to be sponsored through a P.O.S.T. certified basic academy during regular academy hours and any other scheduled departmental and academy exercise and activities.  Upon successfully completing the academy, Police Recruits shall be advanced to Police Officers and immediately begin the field training program to prepare them to function as solo officers.

The City of Sunnyvale is seeking to fill the position of Public Safety Dispatcher with an energetic and highly motivated individual who possesses excellent customer service, technical and interpersonal skills.

 
Under general supervision of the Senior Public Safety Dispatcher, processes emergency and non-emergency calls for service; dispatches police, fire, medical, rescue, animal control or other emergency equipment, by telephone or radio, utilizing complex technical aids, such as computer aided dispatch systems (CAD); and performs related work as required.

The minimum qualifications required for this position are - Graduation from high school or tested equivalent; and Two years of experience dispatching police and/or fire services for a public safety agency utilizing contemporary dispatching technical tools, including computer aided dispatching systems; or successful completion of probation as a Public Safety Dispatcher-in-Training with the City of Sunnyvale.
