POLICE ASSISTANT

Salary Range: $19.85 to $30.87/hour; temporary part-time, non-benefitted position, DOE

DEFINITION

The Police Assistant is a civilian, non-sworn, uniformed position that is responsible for a variety of customer service-based interactions with the community. Duties include non-hazardous enforcement of municipal parking laws and regulations as well as clerical front counter tasks related to phone and walk-in contacts at the police department.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED

Receives general supervision from the Administrative Assistant. Projects are assigned, and the person usually works with very little supervision. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/DUTIES

• Handle confidential administrative duties at the front desk.
• Answer/forward all incoming phone calls.
• The ability to multi task phones with walk-in traffic
• Perform a variety of research & staff work; prepare reports.
• Maintain records using computers.
• Maintain filing system.
• Coordinate Parking Permits for business employees.
• Receive and respond to complaints and reports of routine parking incidents from the public.
• Respond to public complaint of abandoned vehicles; document and schedule tows for abandoned vehicles; and ensures proper disposition of illegally parked vehicles; patrols city streets and issues citations on vehicles parked in an unlawful manner.
• Assist in organizing and coordinating department events and community outreach programs.
• Manage office supplies and equipment inventory, placing orders as needed.
• Operate computer equipment and two-way radio as related to employment.
• Mark vehicles to detect abuse of timed areas.
• As required testifies in court.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
• Perform duties within OSHA standards.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge: 

• Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• English usage, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, and punctuation.
• Principles and practices of records management.

Ability to:     

• Effectively communicate verbally and through written correspondence.
• Compose correspondence independently from brief instructions.
• Establish, maintain, and foster positive and effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
• Analyze situations and identify pertinent problems/issues; collect relevant information; evaluate realistic options; and recommend /implement appropriate course of action.
• Perform technical, detailed, and responsible office support work.
• Techniques for providing a high level of customer service to the public and Town staff, in person and over the phone.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

Experience: 

Prefer one year in a non-sworn capacity with a municipal police agency involving clerical work and public contact.

Education:   

High school graduation or equivalent.

Licenses:      

California Driver's License, C.L.E.T.S. certification upon hire.

The County of Yuba is currently recruiting for the  flexibly staffed position of Elections Clerk I-II in the Elections Division within the Clerk-Recorder’s Office for both Extra Help and Full Time positions. This position reports directly to the Registrar of Voters Manager. THE POSITION: 

The City of San Pablo is actively recruiting for a Community Services Coordinator I/II position to plan, organize, and direct services and programs within the Community Services Department for our senior population, volunteer programs and city-wide special events. Our senior programs provide opportunities for adults 50 years of age and older, to engage in active and healthy programming. The Church Lane Senior Center hosts a congregate lunch program, numerous senior focused special events, weekday door-to-door transportation service (managed by a different full-time coordinator) and drop- in programs and classes. The city hosts 10-12 city-wide special events each year that include family dances, spring egg hunt, Cinco de Mayo celebration, Movies Under the Stars, 4th of July Multi-Cultural celebration, Halloween, Veterans Day and a Winter Wonderland Festival. PAL (Police Activities League) Program Attendants work in the formal Suisun City classification of Recreation Specialist I. Starting hourly rate will depend on qualifications. This position works on average 19 hours per week.

The Department: The Recreation, Parks and Marina Department is responsible for the operations and programs of the Suisun City Marina, the Senior Center and the Joseph A. Nelson Center, including preschool, after-school programs at various sites, recreation classes and sports leagues, community events and special event rentals.

The Position: PAL Program Attendants work with Suisun City’s PAL Program and with area teenagers ages 13-19 to implement educational and recreational activities: tutoring, sports, games, mini-excursions, competitions, contests, seminars, and special events, and provide general support to the program’s Recreation Supervisor. Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor, the Recreation Coordinator II – Aquatics Safety manages the City’s Aquatics lifeguards and scheduling, including lap swim, water-walking, lifeguard certification, community CPR/First Aid classes and JR Lifeguard program.  This position also supervises all lifeguards, senior lifeguards and provides key assistance to the Recreation Supervisor on all related matters (works closely with Recreation Coordinator I- Aquatics programs to support division goals and activities).

The Aquatics & Fitness Center is a 7-day a week operation.

Recreation Coordinator II schedule may include Saturdays and Sundays and is subject to change depending on facility and supervisor needs.

• Schedule and provide regular in-service training for aquatics staff.

• Coordinate with local police and fire agencies for emergency response protocols.

• Maintain all personal certifications and be available to lifeguard, teach swim lessons, and otherwise supplement line staff when needed.

For the Solid Waste Division, we are seeking a highly motivated, organized, and creative individual with strong quantitative and analytical skills, impeccable written and verbal communication skills, and a solid understanding of environmental science and policies to manage Sunnyvale’s closed landfill.

This position works with environmental consultants and contractors, a diverse team of City’s Wastewater Treatment Plant operations and maintenance staff, and regulators including the Water Board, CalRecycle and the Air District to ensure closed landfills and compliance with solid waste, air and water quality regulations.

We are looking for an ideal candidate who can ensures compliance with applicable Permit requirements; reviews, analyzes, and interprets operational and monitoring data; and prepares technical memoranda and reports; has experience with designing, implementing, and maintaining solutions related to various aspects of postclosure maintenance of the landfill and performs related work as required.

Candidate’s experience in reviewing plans and specifications of public and private projects proposed on or near the landfill for potential impacts, informing developers/designers of impacts of landfill-related regulations and proposes necessary changes to projects is highly desirable.

THE POSITION:     

Under the direction of the Pool Manager, the Assistant Pool Manager is responsible for assigned aquatic program areas, and acts as Pool Manager during the Pool Manager’s absence. The Assistant Manager assists in the direction and supervision of the staff and programs at the facility. This is an at-will, intermittent, part-time, hourly position. Work a flexible work schedule, which may include evening, weekdays, weekends and holidays

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:

• Acts as Pool Manager in the absence of same.
• Assist with pool staff assignments and scheduling.
• Perform lifesaving practices and standards according to accepted industry standards.
• Assist with training and supervision of staff and volunteers on assigned duties.
• Meet program goals and objectives, collect and maintain relevant statistical records and data.
• Acts in capacity of pool lifeguard.
• Assist in maintaining on-site security and safety of participants, staff, and others in the pool area, preparation and maintenance of incident records.
• Assist in organization, teaching and evaluation of swim lessons and pool activities.
• Enforce City and program rules and guidelines.
• Assist Pool Manager to monitor correct completion of required paperwork.
• Attend pertinent staff meetings as required during the season.
