The Community Development and Transportation Department (CDT) is seeking a value-driven team player to fill the position of Planning Intern. About the Position: The Planning Department is seeking two interns who are interested in learning about open space conservation and planning for ecologically sensitive recreation. Their responsibilities may include researching and compiling project information, supporting with community and stakeholder engagement, assisting with environmental review and documentation, researching new programs and initiatives, conducting field surveys and data collection, and using computer-based systems such as GIS, Microsoft Excel and Adobe Illustrator for analysis of data and preparation of documents regarding Midpen lands and facilities. The interns will work as a team and individually on assignments, including opportunities for field work to gain experience in data collection techniques and tools and on-the-job training in planning research, analysis, and written communication.  The expected start date for the interns is on or after July 8, 2024. Basic Requirements: Internships are open to applications from current students or recent graduates (within the last 12 months). Successful candidates will have a background in the natural sciences, park/open space management, land use/environmental planning, GIS/geography, biology, ecology, or another related field; and experience with field data collection techniques. This internship requires strong organizational and analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and with a team. Working Conditions: This position will report to the Planning Department at the Administrative Office in Los Altos, California.  Midpen offers a hybrid office/telecommute work environment for this position, which will be divided between onsite work, field visits, and limited home office work.  Fieldwork is conducted in rural or mountainous Midpen open space areas, which may involve working alone or with another intern in wildland areas, traversing rough difficult terrain sometimes with poison oak and dense vegetation, and carrying equipment weighing up to 25 pounds. This is a temporary position working 20 – 40 hours per week, which will extend up to a total of 950 hours over a 6-9 month period. This is a non-benefited position.

The City of Hayward is excited to announce its recruitment for the position of Mobile Mental Health Clinician. Under general direction, the Mobile Mental Health Clinician provides field and office based professional behavioral health counseling, psychoeducation, outreach and engagement, and case management services as part of the City’s Hayward Evaluation and Response Teams (HEART) Program improving public safety responses to people experiencing mental illness, substance use disorders and homelessness.

THE PROGRAM

The Hayward Evaluation and Response Teams (HEART) Program is a cross departmental program between the Hayward City Manager’s Office, Police, and Fire Departments and Alameda County Behavioral Health Care Services developed to improve access to medical, mental health, and other support services.  The HEART program aims to achieve two main goals: 1) to reduce the need for police officers to intervene in calls for service involving people experiencing chronic mental illness, substance use disorders, and homelessness and 2) to reduce reliance on emergency services for individuals needing long-term case management and follow-up services.  HEART consists of three distinct response teams: the Mobile Integrated Health Unit (MIHU) made up of Hayward Fire Department Community Paramedics; the Hayward Mobile Evaluation Team (HMET) which pairs a specially trained Hayward Police Officer with an Alameda County behavioral health clinician; and the Case Management and Mental Health Linkages Team (LINK) consisting of Mobile Mental Health Clinicians and a Lead Program Assistant (Case Manager).

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

 As a member of the LINK team, the ideal candidate has experience providing short term crisis intervention, safety assessments, and other mental health services to adults, youth and children experiencing mental illness, substance use disorders and/or homelessness.  They have the ability to work primarily in the field and have the situational awareness to respond alongside emergency response teams. They are knowledgeable about local community resources and skilled at forming relationships quickly.

Provides direct casework, individual and group therapy; secures and evaluates medical or psychosocial data such as behavior patterns, use of coping skills and family relationships; analyzes factors which exert an adverse effect upon health issues, treatment and recovery which contribute to or are responsible for behavioral health issues and/or affect the potential for recovery and resiliency.

Establishes and maintains effective relationships with contractors and community organizations and other governmental agencies regarding programs and services; participates in committees, meetings and conferences; provides guidance regarding appropriate social-psychological practices and services.
 
Compiles and prepares reports and documentation on clinical activities; maintains records; prepares periodic reports.
 

Identifies emerging trends related to crimes and issues; develops and implements prevention and intervention program approaches; provides community education on current procedures and practices related to mental health and intervention strategies.

THE POSITION

Tri-City is looking for a special individual to serve as a Clinical Therapist I/II for the Children’s Outpatient (COP) Department. This position is responsible for a variety of ongoing responsibilities including, but not limited to:

• Provides individual, group, and family interventions, rehabilitation, and treatment services including counseling, therapy, case management, and referral and linkage to community services to a variety of clients including high acuity clients.

• Within scope of authority, assesses, diagnoses, and treats a variety of clients with mental health disorders; collaborates with clients and creates individualized treatments plans according to client’s needs and circumstances.

• Initiates and conducts individual, group, and family counseling and biopsychosocial therapy sessions utilizing a variety of techniques and modalities; provides case management services in the office and in the field.

• Performs routine and emergency intake evaluations according to Authority procedure; completes appropriate forms and documents relating to the intake process; and prepares medical and demographic case history for use in diagnosis.

• Assists clients and family members in understanding behavioral health diagnosis, contributing factors/causes, effects, prognosis, rehabilitation, and treatment.

• Works with clients to address stressors and barriers to treatment and/or social functioning; identifies and focuses on client strengths and personal resources to effectively engage and treat client.

San Mateo County Health's Behavioral Health and Recovery Services Division is seeking a responsible, innovative leader and skilled clinician for the position of Supervising Mental Health Clinician - East Palo Alto Services. This Supervising Mental Health Clinician will supervise and coordinate the work of mental health professionals and interns in the East Palo Alto and East Menlo Park geographic area in San Mateo County. This position works closely with community members and community providers to develop and sustain programming that is culturally and community responsive.

This position will participate in program administration, planning and evaluation. The Supervising Mental Health Clinician supervises and guides the clinical team who provides services to seriously emotionally disturbed youth and their families, and seriously mentally ill adults. Services provided include: medication assessment and management; individual, group and family therapy; psychological assessment; case management; rehabilitation services; and crisis intervention.

The current vacancy is in the East Palo Alto Community Counseling Center, located in East Palo Alto but will travel throughout San Mateo County for client visits, trainings and meetings.

The East Palo Alto Community Counseling Center offers a unique setting to provide services to a diverse population in a community-oriented clinic.

This position supervises a multidisciplinary team that provides clinical outpatient services to adults and children and their families. The team may include psychiatrists, psychologists, psychiatric nurses and social workers and marriage and family therapists. The clinical teams also include master and doctoral level interns and psychiatric residents. In providing clinical services team members also relate to peer counselors and parent partners.

The ideal candidate will possess:

• Knowledge of system of care principles and general services.
• Knowledge of program management techniques and practices.
• Demonstrated expertise and skill in clinical work with adults with serious mental illnesses and youth with serious emotional disturbances; and clients with co-occurring disorders.
• Experience working with clients of diverse cultures and backgrounds and with underserved and/or isolated communities.
• Knowledge of evidence-based clinical practice modalities, e.g. Trauma Informed Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Solution Focused Brief Treatment.
• Knowledge of Medi-Cal and Medicare regulations and managed mental health care.
• Strong clinical assessment, diagnostic and evaluation skills.
• Strong supervisory/leadership skills which demonstrate an ability to direct and motivate a multi-disciplinary team.
• Experience guiding or supervising others during a systemic or programmatic change process.
• Collaborative skills and the ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships with consumers, families, professionals and the public; including collaborative community engagement to plan and implement needed services.
• Ability to make sound decisions based on the exercise of judgment and the consideration of all available information.
• Fluency in Spanish and English is preferred.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is:

Education: A Master's degree in a mental health specialty, such as social work, nursing, or clinical counseling.

Experience: Two years of professional post-graduate experience in a mental health setting.

Licensure/Certification:

• Possession of a California license in at least one of the following: Registered Nurse; Clinical Psychology; Clinical Social Worker; or Marriage and Family Therapist.
