Definition: Under supervision, to provide leadership to recreation programs, activities or service; organizes and implements program elements and oversees participants; and performs related work as required.  This temporary part-time non-benefited position works an average of 8 -15 hours per week during each sports season.  This position requires afternoon and evening shifts.

 

Essential Duties:  Depending upon assignment, the duties of an After School Coach - Recreation Leader I , II or III may include, but are not limited to, the following:

 Assists in planning, organizing, scheduling and provides direct leadership to classes in a specialized phase of the recreation program, class or activities.

• Organizes, inventories and maintains necessary facilities and materials.
• Maintains group and individual discipline, and code of conduct.
• Implements a logical detailed sequence of activities to fit the abilities and interest of the participants.

Recreation Leader II:  Current enrollment in high school, with minimum age of 16 at time of appointment.  Equivalent to three (3) months of full-time experience (approximately 500 hours) of volunteer or paid work experience in recreation programs or equivalent. Depending on area of assignment, previous knowledge of and experience participating in the activity and/or sport is desirable. 

 

Recreation Leader III:  Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12) grade.  Equivalent to six (6) months full-time experience (approximately 1,000 hours) of volunteer or paid work experience equivalent to a Recreation Leader II with the City of Millbrae. Depending on area of assignment, previous knowledge of and experience participating in the activity and/or sport is desirable.

The Associate Electrical Engineer will perform a diverse set of professional electrical engineering-related assignments which are primarily focused on the engineering, design, and implementation of electric distribution microgrids, distributed energy resources, and other electrical projects within new residential, commercial and other land-use developments, as well as City-owned facilities.  The person selected will have knowledge and experience related to the design, construction and operation of high voltage electric transmission and distribution systems, building and other facility electrical systems, and renewable energy generation and storage solutions.  Knowledge and experience related to the design and operation of component-level or integrated electronic circuitry is not applicable to this position.

Knowledge and experience in the following specific areas is directly relevant to this Associate Electrical Engineer position: Experience in electrical power system and microgrid design, including transmission, distribution, generation and storage. Knowledge of electrical power transmission and distribution equipment and operation comprised of 115KV, 21KV, 12KV, 4.16KV and 480V switchgears, substations, breakers, switchboards, panel boards, UPS, generators, substation equipment, and SCADA.  Knowledge of designs for equipment installation, underground duct banks, conduit and other raceway systems, power and control cables and grounding.  Knowledge of building and facility electric distribution, metering and power backup systems and equipment.  Knowledge of renewable energy devices such as wind and solar generators and storage batteries.  Knowledge of distributed energy resource systems implementation and management.  Knowledge of federal and state electric energy laws, regulations, and procedures.  Knowledge of PG&E tariffs, interconnection processes, system impact and facility studies, and transmission and distribution services and operations.  Familiarity with the principles and practices of project and construction management.  Ability to exercise professional level judgment in the application of codes and standards expressed in the California Code of Regulation Title 24, PG&E Greenbook, Institute of Electronic and Electrical Engineers (IEEE), American National Standards Association (ANSI), National Electric Code (NEC), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), California Mechanical Code (CMC), the California Plumbing Code (CPC), The California Energy Code (CEC), the National Fire Protection Code (NFPA), and will be familiar with the California Building Code (CBC), the California Fire Code (CFC). 

Key responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to the following:

• Plan, coordinate and/or manage energy resiliency projects and programs that may involve multiple participants, including other City staff and departments, consultants, private developers, and community stakeholders.
• Plan, implement and manage consultant delivered services and projects, including negotiating, reviewing and/or preparing scopes of work, budgets, schedules, service orders, change orders, and invoices.
• Define, prioritize, and assign the work tasks of other staff and consultants, and regularly review progress and make necessary adjustments to ensure satisfactory performance of the work.
• Prepare, review and/or analyze designs, improvement plans, specifications, and other engineering documents for a variety of electrical systems, including but not limited to electric power transmission, distribution, generation, and storage.
• Perform and/or review various electrical engineering calculations and analysis related to electrical and energy systems capacity, operation and performance.
• Review and/or analyze power transmission and distribution studies and reports, including by not limited to PG&E System Impact Studies and PG&E Facilities Studies.
• Research, analyze and or/evaluate emerging electrical and renewable energy technologies and programs; prepare and/or review technical reports, studies, white papers and presentations related to energy resiliency strategies.
• Prepare and/or review documents and specifications used to procure professional consulting services, products or equipment, and other items needed to implement electrical systems and energy resiliency projects.
• Prepare written reports and presentations as the basis for important discussions, requests, actions, and approvals by internal and external stakeholders, including City Management, City Council, other City departments, developers, and community groups.
• Provide accurate, timely and appropriate verbal and/or written responses to stakeholder requests, questions or concerns.

The City of San Jose’s Community Energy Department’s is seeking a Principal Power Resources Specialist to join the Power Supply Team. Successful candidates should have a deep knowledge of California energy markets, relationships, and experience working with a variety of energy market participants, including: large energy trading firms,
independent power producers, investor owned and municipal utilities, and CCAs. The ideal candidates have strong analytical skills with extensive experience related to power trading and origination, and contract negotiations in California energy markets. The positions will be part of a fast-paced team, often working on multiple high-priority projects and short deadlines. This position will report to the Deputy Director of the Power Resources Division. Successful candidates should possess the following:

• Extensive knowledge of energy market indices, pricing trends, seasonal market dynamics, and experience using this knowledge to improve power portfolio performance.
• Extensive experience in contract negotiations with large energy trading firms, utilities, and renewable developers.
• Extensive experience with energy contracts including energy and capacity transactions, the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) agreement, and short-term Western Systems Power Pool (WSSP) transactions, tolling agreements, and long-term power purchase agreements.
• Strong data analytics skills, experience implementing strategies, data driven in order to improve power portfolio performance.
• Experience in managing power bids and requests for proposals.
• Knowledge related to power generation technologies, major asset owners, risks and benefits of various power sources and contract structures.
• Knowledge and experience working with regulatory compliance agencies such as: the California Public Utilities
Commission (CPUC), the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) , CEC, FERC
• Experience with CAISO markets, or another RTO, power scheduling and settlement functions to ensure compliance and reduce market risks and costs.
• Experience developing long and short-term resource plans; including utility integrated resource planning to develop an electric utility’s resource needs to cost effectively meet expected electricity demand over a long-term planning horizon.

 

Education and Experience Requirements

-Education: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Business, Economics, Engineering, Environmental Studies, Law, Natural Resources, Statistics, or related field to utility business. A Master’s degree is highly desirable.

-Experience: Six (6) years of progressively responsible related experience overseeing and administering energy resources operations, planning, purchasing, scheduling, or contract negotiations.

-Acceptable Substitution: A Master’s degree in a related field, may be substituted for up to two (2) years of the required experience. There is no substitution for the required bachelor’s degree.

Under the general supervision of a Senior Engineer, the Associate Engineer position performs a variety of professional engineering, plan review, and inspection work.

Typical duties include, but are not limited to the following:

- Examine plans, perform calculations and review specifications for commercial, industrial, and residential buildings for compliance with the California Building Code, California Fire Code, California State Fire Marshal regulations, and
applicable NFPA standards and local ordinances.

- Provide technical advice to consultants, architects, engineers, contractors, developers, department officers and staff, and the Fire Marshal on the application or interpretation of fire safety codes/regulations, and on the resolution of fire safety issues found in the preliminary design of buildings.

- Analyze and evaluate proposals for alternate materials, methods of construction, and/or variances to fire safety codes and regulations.

- Conduct field inspections to ensure that the finished construction complies with approved plans.

The subject of the incumbent’s tasks will be focused on one or more of the following Sections of BFP areas: Building Life Safety Systems, Fire Suppression Systems, Fire Detection/Fire Alarm Systems, Hazardous Materials and Site Development.
