DEFINITION: This position reports to the Recreation Coordinator and/or Supervisor managing youth programs. This position involves a high level of management, coordination, and good communication skills. As Camp Director, you will oversee plans, direct and coordinate the daily activities and staff for Mill Valley Recreation Department and Community Center Summer Day Camp Program. You will may have up to 15 part-time staff reporting to you at one time, you may be required to lead the entire camp in coordination and planning on a daily/ weekly basis and you may be asked to arrive early or stay late to oversee/ assist with camp prep and cleaning up. This position requires a commitment to Mill Valley Summer Camp programming and may be between a 20 to 40 hour a week position. 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

• Ability to develop, coordinate, plan, implement and supervise the day-to-day activities, themes and special events for an ongoing summer day camp. 
• Create and maintain a safe and creative camp environment. 
• Demonstrate excellent customer service and communicate effectively with co-workers, parents, and campers. 
• Supervise, direct and motivate subordinate camp counselors and counselors-in-training. 
• Maintain registration, attendance, and activity records; ensure the proper pick-up/drop-off of campers.  

• Encourage good behavior, appropriate manners and active play by both staff and campers.  
• Possess strong leadership skills in one or more of the following areas: arts, crafts, sports, playground games, drama, songs/music, nature or special events. 
• Ability to lead groups of campers in various day camp activities. 
• Motivate staff and campers through example. 
• Must be a team player and have the ability to work independently with minimum supervision. 

• Practice proper hygiene, with oneself and children, to deter the spread of disease (colds, flu, etc). 
• Respond professionally to emergencies, provide care according to the level of training.  
• Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing. 
• Ability to speak English clearly and understandably. 

TRAINING & EXPERIENCE: Any combination of education, training, and experience, which likely provides the required knowledge and abilities.

The City of American Canyon Parks & Recreation Department invites energetic, creative and responsible individuals to apply for the position of Program Coordinator. Program Coordinators are part-time, temporary staff members who work under Recreation Coordinators to oversee and implement a wide range of recreation programming. Program Coordinators may be asked to provide recreation leadership, supervision, and assistance in various recreation programs, including day camp, youth and adult sports, special events and outdoor spaces.

This position is well-suited for applicants with experience as a Recreation Leader or Youth Leader, can work independently, and effectively lead staff members.

Being a Program Coordinator can include working shifts that are scheduled during early mornings, nights, weekends and holidays all year around.  This is a position that is considered temporary/part-time and employees are limited to no more than 980 hours per fiscal year.

Under general supervision, plans, organizes, coordinates, develops, implements, promotes and evaluates assigned program areas and provides lead direction to lower-level staff and volunteers. 

Examples of Duties

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: 

• Plan, organize, implement, and lead assigned program areas in one or more City departments.
• Assist in the development, recommendation and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, procedures and work standards for assigned program area.

The Position:

This is a part-time receptionist position with the City of Mateo Aquatics Section for Summer 2024. Positions available at Joinville Swim Center and King Community Pool. It does not include any benefits other than coverage under Workman’s Compensation.
 

Qualifications:

Must be at least 16 years old and have the ability to obtain a work permit, if under the age of 18. Applicants must have strong public contact and telephone answering skills and

present a mature and neat public appearance. Experience in handling money and computer knowledge is highly recommended. Familiarity with the Recreation Department and programs is desirable.

Office Staff Responsibilities:

Front Desk Receptionists answer patron questions and phone calls, directing inquiries to staff and or providing accurate informed responses concerning the Recreation Department programs, classes and activities. Receptionists will also accept and complete class registrations. The successful applicant will also be expected to accept fees and reconcile transactions.   Training is included.
