ABOUT THE POSITION:

The Seasonal Maintenance Worker position performs a variety of entry-level and unskilled labor, maintenance and repair tasks in various public works operations, such as park maintenance, landscape maintenance, creek and catch basin maintenance, street maintenance, and janitorial and facility maintenance.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain insight and experience for a rewarding career in local government.

Typically, work hours are scheduled between Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.  Some hours may be adjusted for special events in evening or on weekends; up to 29 hours per week.

This is a part-time, temporary position with limited duration.

EXAMPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform preparatory work for maintenance activities – gathering equipment, materials and supplies, loading and unloading, and laying out materials and equipment for projects
• Perform a variety of routine physical labor tasks, depending upon area of assignment, such as posting general notices, pulling weeds, picking up litter, raking leaves and debris, planting, miscellaneous painting, replacing light bulbs, emptying trash bins, cleaning park bathroom daily and other minor custodial work
• Perform cleanup at the end of the day or when job is completed, including picking up tools and clearing work areas of spills and debris
• Operate power tools such as power washer, leaf blower and weed eater, as well as basic hand tools such as brooms, shovels, rakes and hoes
• Assist with daily and weekly trash pick-up on park grounds and Town trash receptacles
• Assist with other maintenance duties as assigned

The position of Firefighter/Paramedic, under direction, respond to fires, emergency medical incidents, rescue problems, hazardous materials spills and other emergencies to protect life and property; perform assigned service and maintenance of apparatus, equipment and stations; perform fire prevention, public education and public relations duties; perform community services and other duties that fall within the guidelines of the mission and goals of the department.

Minimum Requirements (updated 2024):

• Minimum age of 18 years at the time of appointment.

Typical Duties:

• Responds to fire, medical, and other emergencies.
• Perform fire, rescue and hazardous materials evolutions and operate equipment necessary to deal with the emergency situation within the District standards and within the Firefighter 1 certification.

Community Outreach Communications Project Plan 

The Community Outreach team is seeking a summer intern for a 10–12-week assignment.  The goal of the internship is to gain valuable experience capturing and creating content, assisting throughout the district.  

Key duties 

• Visit Summer Programs to Capture Video and Photo content 

• Draft Program Highlight and Promotional Social Posts 

• Edit Community Facing District-Wide Videos 

• Assist with District-Wide Communications including Email Newsletters, Website, and social media. 

Key deliverables will be: 

• Create two to three 30 second videos highlighting LARPD’s impact on the community. 

• Update District Parks and Facilities Guide for Website  

• Capturing photo/video content from summer programs 

What learning will occur for the intern? 

• Learn to effectively communicate the LARPD brand identity across various channels, including social media, website, and content creation, by maintaining consistency in voice, tone, and messaging. 

• Gain hands-on experience in managing social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, YouTube, Instagram) by creating engaging content, scheduling posts, monitoring audience engagement, and analyzing performance metrics to optimize strategies. 

• Learn website management by assisting with content updates, uploading new information, ensuring website functionality, and implementing best practices to enhance online visibility and user experience. 

• Develop skills in content creation, including writing engaging copy, designing visuals, and creating multimedia content such as videos, graphics, and infographics to convey key messages and engage the target audience. 

• Gain proficiency in video editing software to assist in creating and editing promotional videos, event highlights, and educational content for various communication channels, while adhering to branding guidelines and storytelling principles. 

Timing 

June-August 9th.  Interns may start and end later but need to be present for the core Sessions slated for the entire month of June, July and through August 9th.  

Work hours will be Monday – Friday, 25-30 hours per week during the 12 weeks of employment.  The pay rate will be $20 per hour.  All interns will be required to successfully complete a Department of Justice fingerprint clearance and undergo a TB test as a condition of employment.

POSITION

To perform a variety of tasks in the maintenance of City-owned buildings, equipment and facilities.  The purpose of this recruitment is to fill a current temporary/part-time vacancy in our Community Services Department and to create a list for future vacancies.

Candidates who do not currently meet the minimum qualifications for the Facilities Maintenance Worker I position may be considered for an Intern position instead.

Temporary employees work no more than 130 hours per month and 960 hours per fiscal year.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The Ideal Candidate for this position will have previous facility maintenance experience, although not required. The Ideal Candidate will be able to follow directions, demonstrate good communication skills (orally and in writing), be flexible, have good attendance, a positive attitude and a willingness to take on new tasks as requested.  The ability to speak and understand Spanish is a desirable quality.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

A primary function of this position is janitorial services. Will include set up and cleanup of special events. Prepare simple activity and related reports; maintain inventory and work records as required. Perform other facility maintenance duties as assigned. Work cooperatively with others. Regular and consistent attendance.

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Experience: Six (6) months of work experience in carpentry, electrical and maintenance work is desirable.

WORK HOURS
Position works approximately 16-20 hours per week in the afternoons and evenings, and will require some weekend hours.

Position Summary

 

Under general supervision, operates a variety of transit vehicles to transport passengers along specific, assigned routes according to the District's requirements.  Provide service in a safe, courteous and reliable manner.   Responsible for written reports and other information as required.  Upon completion of the Golden Gate Transit Training Program, the employee operates regularly scheduled assignments.  All runs will originate in either Santa Rosa, Novato or San Rafael.

Hourly Pay: $30.23/hour to $35.57/hour


 If selected for the position, new hires will need to complete Golden Gate Bridge, Highway & Transportation District’s Bus Operator Apprenticeship Program ($30.23/hr benefits not included) which is approximately twelve (12) weeks, Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Upon successful completion of training: $32.01 per hour, plus benefits. All new hires will be required to complete a 120 probationary period upon completion of training.

Essential Responsibilities

 

• Transports passengers along assigned routes, making designated stops as required or requested.
• Uses the fare box to accurately collect fares, issues transfers and gives general information.
• Completes reports on patron count, non-scheduled mileage, vehicular deficiencies, fare box, accidents and other reports as required.
• Operates automatic lift on buses and assists passengers in wheelchairs, those using crutches or walkers, or who have speech or mental difficulty.

Minimum Qualifications

 

• No experience is necessary. 
• Must be a licensed driver for at least seven (7) years prior to the date of this posting. Candidates who are currently enrolled in the Bus Operator Pre-Apprenticeship Program and a licensed driver for at least 3 years are eligible to apply, pending successful completion of the pre-apprenticeship program.

To perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the removal of blight from City property.  Positions allocated to this class are expected to perform skilled and complex maintenance including litter, weed, and debris removal duties and to work with third party contractors.

The purpose of the recruitment is to fill a current vacancy at the Woodland Police Department, Homeless Outreach Street Team, as well as establish an eligibility list for future vacancies.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The Ideal Candidate for this position will have strong communication and customer service skills and possess the ability to mediate or de-escalate conflict. Candidates should possess an awareness of their surroundings and roadway dangers. • Work to complete required duties for the City’s Blight Abatement Team such as removal of graffiti, removal of abandoned camps, litter clean-up, power washing, removal and clean-up of bio-hazards and human waste, removal of fallen leaves and minor landscaping clean-up, as well as assist in the execution and implementation of special events that take place within the City limits.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

Provide general information to the public, other City departments, and vendors pertaining to area of assignment. Perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs on assigned equipment.  

The work environment is located primarily outdoors and consists of completing tasks involving litter, weed, debris and graffiti removal, painting and biohazard abatement. Additional tasks include cleaning of walkways, street gutters, alleyways, and landscape areas. Conditions range from working outside in all types of weather conditions. Some work will involve hazardous and unsanitary conditions. Flexibility and patience are required. Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignments without regular direct supervision. Must be able to work under stressful conditions.

Meet stand-by program requirements and serve in a stand-by status after regular working hours and respond to emergency call-outs.  Assist in the preparation of cost estimates, scheduling of work, and employee evaluations.   Requisition of materials and supplies for assigned facilities and projects.   Instruct subordinates in proper work techniques, use of equipment and safety practices and requirements. Work cooperatively with others.  Drive vehicles and equipment as required.  

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

High School Diploma or equivalent.  

Experience:

One (1) year of experience performing duties comparable to those of a Maintenance

Worker I.

Bilingual:  Knowledge of a second language is beneficial.

License and Certificate:

Required upon hire, possession of valid Class C California Driver's License.

Forklift Certification, First Aid and CPR certifications, is required prior to permanent appointment.

Possession of a valid Class B or Class A California Driver's License is a plus.

The City will also conduct a non-sworn law enforcement background check on the candidate prior to appointment to a position within this class.  The background check will include personal and professional reference checks, credit history checks, Social Security number verification, professional license/registration verification, military service information and driving history.  Information obtained in the course of this background check will be considered by the appointment authority in the selection process.  In obtaining such information, the City will comply with applicable consent and disclosure practices in the Fair Credit Reporting Act and the California Investigative Consumer Reporting Agencies Act.

Community Enhancement Specialist
$4,804.06 - $6,131.34 /month
$2,217.26 - $2,829.85 /bi-weekly

Future salary growth includes 4% increase effective July 2024, a 1% increase effective January 2025, a 4% increase in July 2025 and a 1% increase effective January 2026.

SPECIAL PAY INCENTIVES:

• Paramedic Pay: 5% Incentive Pay. Plus, the EMT/Paramedic Pay Pilot Program that runs through 6/30/2025 provides Paramedics with an additional 5% incentive pay. 
• Longevity Pay: 3% after 5 continuous years of service; 3% after 10 continuous years of service (total of 6%)

The Department

The Suisun City Fire Department was established in 1861. The men and women of SCFD take great pride in the customer service that they provide to all who live, work and travel through Suisun City. SCFD is a mission-driven fire agency that remains focused on customers and safety. It is our goal that all members strive to attain a synergistic balance of education, training, and experience to provide excellent emergency management on every call. SCFD is a combination agency staffed with both full-time and volunteer fire personnel. We currently operate two Type 1 Fire Engines, one Type 3 Fire Engine, Ladder Truck, three Command Vehicles, one Type 5 Fire Engine, Zodiac Rescue Boats, and one USAR Trailer.  The Suisun City Fire Department is an ALS (Paramedic) level department, supported by Medic Ambulance for transport services. Station 47 is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The Position

The ideal candidate will have well-developed technical skills in the operation and maintenance of fire equipment and apparatus, and be self-motivated, team-oriented, embrace diversity and exercise sound judgment. Work requires a good understanding of first aid techniques and lifesaving methods. The nature of the work requires that the incumbent establish and maintain positive, cooperative working relationships within their own department, other Suisun City personnel, and the general public on an ongoing basis.

Essential Job Functions

• Operates, drives, and maintains pumps and all apparatus to effectively suppress fires.
• Assists with the overhaul, salvage, and cleanup operations at any incident.
• Delivers basic life support (BLS)/advanced life support (ALS) as a Paramedic.
• Answers general questions of the public and provides information.
• Performs related duties as assigned.
