Job Description
The City’s litigation portfolio includes a broad range of substantive legal issues arising under both state and federal law. As Sr. Deputy litigator, under supervision of a Chief Deputy, you will have primary responsibility for all aspects of assigned cases, including pleading, litigation strategy, client communication and coordination, discovery and document review, motion practice, settlement evaluation and negotiation, and trial. The City’s varied and novel legal issues require excellent research, analytical, and writing skills as well as the ability to vigorously defend complex matters.

Minimum Qualifications
• Licensed to practice law in California.

The City of San José, Office of the City Attorney is seeking an attorney with California municipal law and government experience, or transferable legal skills and a commitment to public service.

As an attorney in our Office, you will serve as trusted counsel to the Mayor and City Council, City Manager, administrative departments, and boards and commissions. You may be called upon to advise as the general counsel to departments regarding their respective duties, powers, functions and obligations in areas including public works, city-wide procurements, employment, land use planning, environmental services, public safety, utilities and housing. Responsibilities also include preparing opinions, ordinances, resolutions, contracts, and other legal documents. Two years of minimum experience in one or more of these areas of law is desirable but not required.

The successful candidate should possess a strong work ethic, analytical depth, superior interpersonal skills, good judgment, and can communicate clearly and effectively. Admission to the California State Bar is required for this position.

The Position:
This is complex clerical work involved in central District processes related to the procurement of goods and services, including selection of vendors, volume buying, implementation of bid procedures, scheduling and coordinating deliveries, inventory, assessing availability and quality of goods and services, administering under direction district-wide procurement related tools, such as procurement and gasoline cards, creation of purchase orders, creating and archiving documentation, and assisting the Senior Buyer as needed. The Position:
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Payroll Manager performs professional supervisory work involved with managing and directing computerized payroll production for the District. The Payroll Manager develops, implements, and monitors procedures to ensure integrity of the payroll systems and to comply with applicable federal, state and local laws, regulations, and guidelines. Public contact is extensive and involves staff at various levels within the organization, local government agencies, and other outside entities for the purpose of exchanging technical accounting procedural and policy information. A high degree of independent judgment and creativity are required to analyze data and develop resolutions for a variety of minor and major problems that occur. Duties and Responsibilities:

2. Oversees the preparation of monthly payrolls for District employees and any retroactive pay adjustments
3. Reviews payroll control reports and approves payroll transmissions
4. Hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates assigned staff and provides feedback, training, and developmental support as needed
5. Establishes and monitors timelines and prioritizes work
6. Supervises the maintenance of District payroll records and reports as required by federal, state, local, and District policy, including meeting STRS and PERS requirements
7. Compiles information and calculations for W-2 reporting
8. Sorts and distributes W-2 forms at year-end and answers questions regarding accessing electronic W-2 forms
9. Oversees W-2 corrections and the preparation of W-2c and W-3c documents
10. Monitors and audits the accuracy and integrity of all payrolls, benefit health cost premiums, mandated benefit costs and balances the general ledger
11. Provides technical direction to support staff conducting various payroll activities
12. Investigates and resolves complex or unusual payroll problems, which may require specialized research or analysis
13. Oversees quarterly and year-end balancing and auditing processes
14. Ensures payment of payroll taxes, withheld wages, and preparation of federal and state tax returns

Works closely with the Information Technology Services (ITS) Department to identify and resolve system issues and to implement and maintain system applications, which ensure that payroll and time reporting meet STRS, PERS, local, federal, and state laws, collective bargaining agreements, and District policies and procedures
16. Maximizes technology functionality to ensure Banner (Ellucian) system is fully optimized
17. Recommends payroll system enhancements/modifications to comply with laws, regulations, tax requirements, reporting procedures, accounting policies, labor union agreements, and organizational needs
18. Confers with Human Resources, ITS staff, and external agencies, including auditors, state retirement agencies, health benefit agencies, consultants, and federal and state agencies

THE POSITION:

The City of San Rafael Library & Recreation Department, Child Care Division, is accepting applications for Child Care Instructor I to work in our School-Age Programs.  Under the supervision of the Child Care Director or Head Teacher, you will assist in the planning and implementation of daily activities for the school-age program. 

This position performs the following essential job duties:      

• Assist in planning and implementing age appropriate curriculum, activities, and events.
• Provide continuous supervision to children in day-to-day activities; ensures health and safety of children.
• Maintain childcare center, rooms and play areas in a clean, orderly and safe condition; sets up rooms and areas for various activities such as lunch, naps, games, etc.
• Monitor behavioral patterns and assists with assessment and child development profiles.
• Meet with parents as necessary or requested.
• Perform lead work responsibilities over Child Care Aides.

To be eligible for this position you must have knowledge of: 

• Stages and phases of Child Development.
• Appropriate disciplinary techniques.
• Age-appropriate group curriculum and activities.
• Appropriate child guidance methods.

To be eligible for this position you must possess the ability to:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: 

• Completion of six (6) units Early Childhood Education (ECE) courses and currently working toward the completion of twelve (12) units of Early Childhood Education (ECE) courses.     
• Six (6) months working with children.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Department of Justice and FBI fingerprint clearance
• Prefer possession of a valid California Driver’s License

The Senior Educational Facilities Planner (Sr. Planner) provides professional planning services that guide the physical development of the campus and assists in strategic development and improvement of buildings and space to support UCSC's mission of research, teaching, and public service. As a senior member of the unit, the Sr. Planner is the resident expert on campus and UC policy regarding capital matters, and provides assistance and support in all areas of planning for CPSM staff, campus leadership. They also act as liaison to the Office of Capital Planning at the UC Office of the President.

The Sr. Planner uses skills as a seasoned, experienced planning professional with a full understanding of industry practices and procedures to resolve a wide range of planning issues; uses advanced planning concepts and objectives to resolve highly complex issues; develops short and long range capital plans, demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for analyzing alternatives and recommending solutions; exhibits high levels of organization; recommends revisions to proceedures and policies to improve efficiency, and is able to operate with considerable independence.

The Sr. Planner provides high-level reports and analysis of campus space needs in an effort to ensure the efficient use of campus space; works with campus leadership and clients to provide in-depth programming, utilization and visioning studies for all types of campus space using a variety of planning tools: metrics, conceptual space plans, and test fit diagrams; coordinates with campus technical experts on the re-use of space; generates and manipulates large data sets, manages databases to comprehensively manage campus capital expenditures, leads and coordinates the annual updates to the multi-year Capital and Seismic Financial Plans, and generates analytics for capital planning, space management and capital outlay.

In addition, the Sr. Planner is responsible for generating or reviewing the technical and budget approval documents created by other planners to ensure that they are accurate and complete; has advanced proficiency in Google and Microsoft Office Suites, and working knowledge of AutoCAD and other communication and presentation software.

Capital Planning and Space Management (CPSM) is a unit within the Division of Business Administration (BAS.) The Division includes a broad and diverse set of operational units that provides and maintains administrative, student development and physical infrastructure that supports the mission of the campus. As a member of BAS, CPSM supports the Office of the Chancellor and Campus Provost/Executive Vice Chancellor in the areas of capital financial planning and policy analysis. In this capacity, CPSM develops and maintains relevant databases, provides analyses of policies and programs, assists in the determination of campus priorities, and in the development of strategies designed to achieve these priorities. Required Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in education, business administration, project construction administration, architecture, accounting, city planning, or facilities planning.
• Advanced knowledge / skills in facilities planning, architecture, engineering, or other planning-related fields; previous experience in providing capital planning and space management services, work with clients, develop space-use programs, conceptual space plans and test fit diagrams; and proficient in the preparation of associated presentation and budget approval documents.
• Advanced written, graphic, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including advanced political acumen; thorough knowledge of correct English grammar, spelling and punctuation; ability to proof documents independently and prepare documents for professional publishing; proven ability to organize collected information, extract pertinent data, prepare accurate reports in various formats to present data effectively, and draft formal written narratives and documents.
