The Position

The City of Fremont currently has a vacancy for the position of Park Maintenance Worker I. The Park Maintenance Worker I performs routine maintenance and repair work in the care of parks, recreation areas and equipment. The selected candidate will be part of a work crew assigned to a daily work detail.

This recruitment will establish a pool of candidates to fill regular and temporary vacancies.

Examples of Job Duties

All Assignments

• Responsible for vehicle and pedestrian traffic safety in work area.
• Manually transports heavy objects, supplies and materials.
• Operate ground maintenance equipment including a backhoe and tractor attachments, as well as a variety of hand and power tools.

Trees Assignment

• Prunes and trims designated street trees to shape and improve growth.
• Operates an aerial pruning platform, brush chipper, chain saw, stump grinder, leaf blower, and pole saw.
• Drives a one-ton truck to locations where work is to be performed.
• Clears areas of leaves, using rake or blower, and remove debris.

Central Parks and Sport Complex Assignment

• Maintains lawns, trees, shrubs, ground cover, picnic tables, benches, and sprinkler systems.
• Irrigates, cultivates, prunes, plants, and transplants a variety of turf, shrubs, trees and plants.

Outlying Parks Assignment

• Maintains lawns, trees, shrubs, ground cover, picnic tables, benches, and sprinkler systems.
• Maintains and make minor repairs to playground/picnic equipment, picnic areas and athletic fields.
• Operates mowing equipment in parks and athletic fields.

Special Assignments

• Performs general painting, plumbing and carpentry.
• Maintains, repairs and renovates irrigation system controllers, valves, pipes, and related components.

PARKS MAINTENANCE WORKER I/II

Level I:  $5,102 - $6,202 per month

Level II:  $5,357 - $6,512 per month

THE POSITION:

The City of San Rafael Public Works Department is seeking a full-time Parks Maintenance Worker I/II.  Under general supervision, this position performs a variety of tasks involving the maintenance, repair, improvement and cleaning of parks, park buildings, recreational facilities, and related areas. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (including but not limited to):

• Mows and edges lawns, ball fields, and other turf using edgers and walk behinds and riding reel, rotary, and flail mowers.
• Prunes, trims, shapes and manicures shrubs, hedges, and small trees.
• Irrigates using manual and automatic irrigation devices.
• Rakes, sweeps, and uses power blower or vacuum to clear leaves and debris.
• Weeds beds, prepares soil, and plants trees, shrubs and plants.
• Repairs vandalism to park facility plumbing, walls and paint.
• Cleans park rest rooms, walkways, patios, and related areas.
• Picks up litter and trash in parks, on and along street islands, and in other areas.
• Maintains ball fields including dirt areas, striping, and turf.
• Adjusts and performs routine maintenance of equipment.
• Installs, adjusts, and repairs sprinkler systems and related plumbing including valves, heads, time clocks, and PVC, galvanized and copper pipes.
• Maintains swimming pools including measuring chemical conditions.
• Operates trenchers, dump trucks, backhoes and loaders, and other tractor attachments to excavate, load, move grade or smooth dirt, materials, and trees; operates street sweeper to clean large paved areas.
• Prepares forms, mixes, pours and finishes concrete.
• Participates in emergency Public Works repairs and maintenance including work in other sections of the department.
• Works emergencies and special events.
• May mix chemicals and operate equipment to apply fertilizers and pesticide.
• Operates vehicles with trailers.
• Performs related duties as assigned.

Parks Maintenance Worker I:

• Use and maintenance of basic hand and power tools common to the field.

Parks Maintenance Worker II: (In addition to the requirements of Parks Maintenance Worker I)

• Use and maintenance of basic hand and power tools common to the field.
• Plants, trees, and landscaping materials.
• Methods, materials, tools and equipment used in groundskeeping.
• Installation and maintenance of landscape irrigation systems and basic plumbing.
• Swimming pool operation and maintenance.
• Methods, materials, tools and equipment used in basic carpentry and concrete work.
• Operation and operator maintenance of a variety of power tools and equipment.
• Safe working practices including traffic barriers and protective clothing and devices.

Parks Maintenance Worker I:

• Operate a vehicle with trailer.
• Use basic hand and power tools common to groundskeeping.
• Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
• Operate a variety of power tools and equipment.

Parks Maintenance Worker II: (In addition to the requirements of Parks Maintenance Worker I)

• Operate hand and power mowers, edgers, saws, pruners, tractors, tractor attachments such as back hoes and loaders, sprayers, trucks, blowers, etc.
• Prune, plant, and irrigate turf, landscape and trees.
• Install, repair, and adjust landscape sprinkler systems.
• Identify plant disease, nutrient, watering and related problems.
• Perform basic carpentry and concrete work required for vandalism repair and park improvements.
• Maintain sanitary and safe swimming pool conditions including sampling and adding chemicals, and maintaining gas chlorine systems.
• Mix and apply pesticides and fertilizers.
• Ability to perform or learn to perform traffic control setups necessary to complete daily assignments.
• Ability to operate or learn to operate a computer and work-related software.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Able to read, speak and write English
• Incumbents assigned to this job classification are subject to Department of Transportation’s Drug and Alcohol Regulations if they possess a Class B driver’s license and opt to utilize the license on the job.

Parks Maintenance Worker I:

• Previous work experience involving groundskeeping, horticulture, and irrigation is preferred.

Parks Maintenance Worker II:

• Three years of work experience involving groundskeeping

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.  The employee frequently is required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or drawl.  The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and taste or smell.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outdoor weather conditions.  The noise level in the work environment is usually very loud.

The City of Thousand Oaks is currently accepting applications to fill several part-time, hourly positions in the Library Services Department. The position will require working at both the Grant R. Brimhall and Newbury Park Branch locations.

Library Pages are typically scheduled to work 15-18 hours per week, which can include morning, evening or weekend hours.

Primary responsibilities:

• Shelve and maintain books placed on shelves
• Assist with unpacking boxes of materials, including unloading and sorting donations
• Assist with processing materials
• Assist with meeting room set-up
• Perform basic clerical and routine tasks
• Assist in maintaining the library collection and public areas
• Assist library staff with special projects and programs as assigned, such as crafts for story time

The Position

The Ideal Candidate

Desirable Qualifications: Thorough understanding of labor and employee relations in the public sector; Human Resources certifications in SHRM, IPMA and/or CALPELRA; and experience with Human Resources systems.

• Work collaboratively with the Human Resources Manager to provide counsel and assistance regarding employee relations and organizational development matters, including employee investigations, disciplinary corrective actions, and grievance resolution.
• Support the bargaining function including preparing negotiation proposals and completing cost analysis.
• Administer labor agreements and represent the City in labor and management issues.
• Provide information to City employees and others using sound judgment and effective interpretation of policies, laws, rules and procedures.
• Support the work of the citywide organizational development initiatives to develop Fremont’s future leaders.
• Support Citywide employee engagement and training initiatives.
• Assist in the implementation and management of the citywide employee performance management system.
• Support Labor Relations and Benefits efforts by researching, gathering, analyzing and summarizing data. Perform benefits research, studies and project management.

• Coordinate requests for proposals, summarize proposals and make recommendations for the acquisition of services.

The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Program Manager II in the Information Technology Department! In this role, you will perform as a technical portfolio manager overseeing staff assigned to function as project managers. You will be responsible for establishing, implementing and maintaining an enterprise IT portfolio management program to ensure that IT projects and programs are planned and delivered according to business unit demands and priority. The Program Manager II will collaborate with the IT Director/CIO, other IT leads and City department heads (and/or their delegates) to provide the vision and leadership necessary to plan and execute strategic programs and tactical projects.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A typical way of gaining the knowledge and skills for this position is: Equivalent to graduation from a four year college or university with major coursework in business, public administration, or a related field and five (5) years in the development and implementation of programs.

Other requirements: Must be able to travel to various locations within and outside the City of Berkeley to meet program needs and to fulfill the job responsibilities. When driving on City business, the incumbent is required to maintain a valid California driver's license as well as a satisfactory driving record. Must be able to attend evening and weekend meetings.

While the PM is the leader of the IT portfolio, they must also be able to coordinate disparate drivers, constraints and personalities while maintaining objectivity and a strong understanding that portfolio management is just one of the critical, integrated functions within IT.
