Community Outreach Communications Project Plan 

The Community Outreach team is seeking a summer intern for a 10–12-week assignment.  The goal of the internship is to gain valuable experience capturing and creating content, assisting throughout the district.  

Key duties 

• Visit Summer Programs to Capture Video and Photo content 

• Draft Program Highlight and Promotional Social Posts 

• Edit Community Facing District-Wide Videos 

• Assist with District-Wide Communications including Email Newsletters, Website, and social media. 

Key deliverables will be: 

• Create two to three 30 second videos highlighting LARPD’s impact on the community. 

• Update District Parks and Facilities Guide for Website  

• Capturing photo/video content from summer programs 

What learning will occur for the intern? 

• Learn to effectively communicate the LARPD brand identity across various channels, including social media, website, and content creation, by maintaining consistency in voice, tone, and messaging. 

• Gain hands-on experience in managing social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, YouTube, Instagram) by creating engaging content, scheduling posts, monitoring audience engagement, and analyzing performance metrics to optimize strategies. 

• Learn website management by assisting with content updates, uploading new information, ensuring website functionality, and implementing best practices to enhance online visibility and user experience. 

• Develop skills in content creation, including writing engaging copy, designing visuals, and creating multimedia content such as videos, graphics, and infographics to convey key messages and engage the target audience. 

• Gain proficiency in video editing software to assist in creating and editing promotional videos, event highlights, and educational content for various communication channels, while adhering to branding guidelines and storytelling principles. 

Timing 

June-August 9th.  Interns may start and end later but need to be present for the core Sessions slated for the entire month of June, July and through August 9th.  

Work hours will be Monday – Friday, 25-30 hours per week during the 12 weeks of employment.  The pay rate will be $20 per hour.  All interns will be required to successfully complete a Department of Justice fingerprint clearance and undergo a TB test as a condition of employment.

POSITION

To perform a variety of tasks in the maintenance of City-owned buildings, equipment and facilities.  The purpose of this recruitment is to fill a current temporary/part-time vacancy in our Community Services Department and to create a list for future vacancies.

Candidates who do not currently meet the minimum qualifications for the Facilities Maintenance Worker I position may be considered for an Intern position instead.

Temporary employees work no more than 130 hours per month and 960 hours per fiscal year.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The Ideal Candidate for this position will have previous facility maintenance experience, although not required. A primary function of this position is janitorial services. Will include set up and cleanup of special events. To perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the removal of blight from City property.  Positions allocated to this class are expected to perform skilled and complex maintenance including litter, weed, and debris removal duties and to work with third party contractors.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

Provide general information to the public, other City departments, and vendors pertaining to area of assignment. Perform preventive maintenance and minor repairs on assigned equipment.  

The work environment is located primarily outdoors and consists of completing tasks involving litter, weed, debris and graffiti removal, painting and biohazard abatement. Additional tasks include cleaning of walkways, street gutters, alleyways, and landscape areas. Conditions range from working outside in all types of weather conditions. Some work will involve hazardous and unsanitary conditions. Flexibility and patience are required. Must be self-motivated and able to complete job assignments without regular direct supervision. Must be able to work under stressful conditions.

Meet stand-by program requirements and serve in a stand-by status after regular working hours and respond to emergency call-outs.  Assist in the preparation of cost estimates, scheduling of work, and employee evaluations.   Requisition of materials and supplies for assigned facilities and projects.   Instruct subordinates in proper work techniques, use of equipment and safety practices and requirements. The Department

The Suisun City Fire Department was established in 1861. The men and women of SCFD take great pride in the customer service that they provide to all who live, work and travel through Suisun City. SCFD is a mission-driven fire agency that remains focused on customers and safety. It is our goal that all members strive to attain a synergistic balance of education, training, and experience to provide excellent emergency management on every call. SCFD is a combination agency staffed with both full-time and volunteer fire personnel. We currently operate two Type 1 Fire Engines, one Type 3 Fire Engine, Ladder Truck, three Command Vehicles, one Type 5 Fire Engine, Zodiac Rescue Boats, and one USAR Trailer.  The Suisun City Fire Department is an ALS (Paramedic) level department, supported by Medic Ambulance for transport services. The Position

The ideal candidate will have well-developed technical skills in the operation and maintenance of fire equipment and apparatus, and be self-motivated, team-oriented, embrace diversity and exercise sound judgment. Work requires a good understanding of first aid techniques and lifesaving methods. The nature of the work requires that the incumbent establish and maintain positive, cooperative working relationships within their own department, other Suisun City personnel, and the general public on an ongoing basis.

• Investigates and resolves complaints received from the public, user departments and other agencies;
• Counsels employees when appropriate; and
• Performs related duties as required for the position, including dispatching in times of emergency or when needed.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• Equivalent to graduation from high school and thirty (30) semester units of college level work with an emphasis in public safety, supervision and management, public administration or related subjects; and
• Five years' experience dispatching in the public safety field, at least two (2) years of which having been at the supervisory level.
Possible Substitutions:
• Administrative or supervisory experience in a public safety department may be substituted for the dispatching experience on a year for year basis.

LICENSE
Possession of a valid California Class C driver's license is required at time of appointment and for duration of employment.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
• Willing to respond to callback in case of major emergencies or local disasters;
• Willing to work Saturdays and odd, irregular and unusual hours;
• Will be required to pass a City background investigation, which will include fingerprinting, polygraph and/or psychological testing; and
• Must be able to perform all of the essential functions of the job.

• Two way radio and telephone communications operations; and
• The rules and regulations of the FCC as they pertain to two way radio telephone communications.

Ability to:
• Schedule, organize, train, lead, and manage the work of subordinates;
• Spell correctly and write legibly;
• Enunciate clearly and distinctly;
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, fellow workers and related agencies;
• Carry out oral and written instructions;
• Initiate and maintain written records and to write reports of unusual occurrences;
• Oversee the instruction and training of subordinates in operational procedures;
• Work in a team based environment and achieve common goals;
• Effectively handle multiple priorities, organize workload and meet strict deadlines;
• Maintain composure and work accurately in emergency situations;
• Operate computer and other business tools; and
• Bend, stoop, reach, walk up and down stairs and stand or sit for prolonged periods of time.
