PAL (Police Activities League) Program Attendants work in the formal Suisun City classification of Recreation Specialist I. Starting hourly rate will depend on qualifications. This position works on average 19 hours per week.

The Department: The Recreation, Parks and Marina Department is responsible for the operations and programs of the Suisun City Marina, the Senior Center and the Joseph A. Nelson Center, including preschool, after-school programs at various sites, recreation classes and sports leagues, community events and special event rentals.

The Position: PAL Program Attendants work with Suisun City’s PAL Program and with area teenagers ages 13-19 to implement educational and recreational activities: tutoring, sports, games, mini-excursions, competitions, contests, seminars, and special events, and provide general support to the program’s Recreation Supervisor. THE POSITION: The Public Works Department at the City of San Mateo has an opportunity for up to four (4) interns who will assist on various municipal projects. Positions are considered for the following fields of interest:

• Capital Improvement Program (CIP) – Civil engineering majors with an interest in capital improvement projects, design of civil infrastructure, and construction delivery procedures. The City of Sunnyvale is recruiting for one Environmental Engineering Coordinator - Solid Waste position for the Environmental Services Department. The department provides comprehensive and innovative utility services for Sunnyvale's residents and businesses and facilitates initiatives to achieve the City's sustainability objectives. The department brings together technical, operational, and administrative professional disciplines to form its dedicated and dynamic team. 

For the Solid Waste Division, we are seeking a highly motivated, organized, and creative individual with strong quantitative and analytical skills, impeccable written and verbal communication skills, and a solid understanding of environmental science and policies to manage Sunnyvale’s closed landfill.

This position works with environmental consultants and contractors, a diverse team of City’s Wastewater Treatment Plant operations and maintenance staff, and regulators including the Water Board, CalRecycle and the Air District to ensure closed landfills and compliance with solid waste, air and water quality regulations.

We are looking for an ideal candidate who can ensures compliance with applicable Permit requirements; reviews, analyzes, and interprets operational and monitoring data; and prepares technical memoranda and reports; has experience with designing, implementing, and maintaining solutions related to various aspects of postclosure maintenance of the landfill and performs related work as required.

Candidate’s experience in reviewing plans and specifications of public and private projects proposed on or near the landfill for potential impacts, informing developers/designers of impacts of landfill-related regulations and proposes necessary changes to projects is highly desirable.

Department of Public Works
The City of Santa Clara's Department of Public Works seeks a results-oriented and innovative engineer to serve out the Department's mission to provide the highest quality public works services to the residents of Santa Clara, the development community, and our customers in a responsible and efficient manner. The Department has focus areas that include Engineering Services and Operations and Maintenance. Engineering Services is comprised of five divisions: Administration, Traffic, Design, Land and Property Development, and Field Services. Operations and Maintenance include public roadways, parkways and boulevards, City trees, street sweeping, environmental programs, storm drain systems, fleet, solid and mixed waste/recyclables, and City facilities. The Traffic Engineering Division provides traffic engineering (lead and support for the design and construction of both City and private development projects), traffic impact analysis reviews for private development projects and transportation projects, bicycle and pedestrian improvement planning, grant administration, and traffic signal maintenance and operation services for the City.
The division receives and investigates resident/business inquiries related to street parking, traffic calming, intersection control (i.e., signals, warning beacons, regulatory signage, and crosswalks), and bicycling and pedestrian travel on public streets. The investigations may involve interaction with the residents, field review, traffic data collection, and evaluation of collected information with established city policies to prepare engineering recommendations for possible improvements.
 
The division also focuses on multi-modal planning and implementation related explicitly to the goals and projects included with the City’s Bicycle Plan, Pedestrian Masterplan, and the City’s Complete Streets policy. Finally, this division coordinates with other agencies such as the Valley Transportation Authority, County of Santa Clara Roads and Airports, Caltrans, and the cities of San Jose, Cupertino, and Sunnyvale related to projects, programs, and grant opportunities. Experience in customer service, traffic design and construction, transportation planning, traffic control device operations, and project management and delivery is essential to success in this position.

Under direct supervision of the Transportation Manager, the Senior Civil Engineer performs the following duties:

• Prepare and manage the preparation of preliminary, final design, and contract documents (plans, specifications, and cost estimates)
• Implementation of transportation plans and programs (i.e. Bicycle Master Plan, Pedestrian Master Plan, Complete Streets Policy, and Vision Zero);
• Conduct studies and analyses of traffic engineering projects or problems, and prepares technical reports; 
• Coordinate engineering activities with other City departments and other public agencies in the transportation related matters;
• Track and manage project budgets;

Water and Sewer Utilities Department

The City of Santa Clara's Water and Sewer Utilities Department seeks an experienced Senior Civil Engineer with excellent project management skills; strong oral and written communication skills; and a proven track record of designing and delivering utility projects and administering consultant and construction contracts.  The qualified candidate will have experience working in a team environment on major construction projects, including working collaboratively with contractors, technicians, utility operations staff, outside agency staff, and the public. The Senior Civil Engineer delivers projects with widely varied scopes, from small, customer-focused, residential projects, to large, high-profile capital improvements with City and Region-wide implications for the delivery of services well into the future.
 
Under direct supervision, the Senior Civil Engineer performs the following duties:

• Perform high-level, fast paced engineering work relating to the permitting, design and construction of water, sewer, and other utilities projects within the City.
• Review proposed public and/or commercial utilities projects for compliance with City, County, State and Federal government construction and environmental standards, design criteria, rules and regulations.
• Be a part of a dynamic small team of engineering professionals, working on delivering projects in the Water, Sewer, and Recycled Water Utilities through their entire project life cycle, including research and design, plan review, construction, operation and maintenance.
• Assist the Principal Engineer in the planning, organizing and management of the work of the Utilities Engineering Division.

LICENSES& CERTIFICATION

Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor, the Recreation Coordinator I – Facilities is responsible for assisting with the smooth operation of activities, programs, rentals, and special events at multiple Recreation Facilities. You have:   

Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
 
Experience: Two (2) years progressively responsible experience in volunteer program management, public relations, project management or similar field. At least one (1) year of professional animal handling experiences is highly desired.
 
Education: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade. Education and coursework related to Public Administration, Animal Behavior, and Veterinary Office Assisting or similar is highly desired.
 
License & Certificates: Possess and maintain a valid California Class C Driver's License.

 

SELECTION PROCEDURE

THE DEPARTMENT:

The Engineering and Transportation Department (ETD) is a new department resulting from a recent organizational assessment. The study reviewed the Community Development and Transportation Department’s Planning, Engineering, and Transportation divisions and aimed to identify operational efficiencies, technology improvements, and a staffing structure better aligned with the workload in order to improve efficiencies. As a result, the Engineering and Transportation functions will now operate as a stand-alone Department with a new Director and Assistant Director. The first step in implementing the Study’s recommendations is to hire a Director and Assistant Director, one of whom will serve as the City Engineer. The new Director, reporting to the Assistant City Manager responsible for land use and development functions, will have functional responsibility for land development, engineering, and transportation, including the City’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP), which includes utilities, civic projects, and construction inspection.

The new Engineering and Transportation Department is supported by 24 FTE and has a FY 2023-24 Capital Budget of approximately $38 million in general infrastructure and transportation projects and $13 million in utility infrastructure projects. The Five-Year CIP (FY 2023-24 to FY 2027-28) totals $473 million, including citywide projects. Major projects include an impressive list of transportation projects, such as the SR84/US101 Freeway Interchange, grade separations along the Caltrain rail line, parking, and transportation demand management and Vision Zero implementation, and various traffic calming and roadway projects. Other major projects entail the Transit Center, the Water Master Plan implementation, finalizing and implementing a Recycled Water Master Plan, and various Stormwater System improvements. Future priorities will involve developing an Adaptation Plan to address Sea Level Rise and the Redwood Shores and Bayshore protection projects.
