DEFINITION: This position reports to the Recreation Coordinator and/or Supervisor managing youth programs. This position involves a high level of management, coordination, and good communication skills. As Camp Director, you will oversee plans, direct and coordinate the daily activities and staff for Mill Valley Recreation Department and Community Center Summer Day Camp Program. You will may have up to 15 part-time staff reporting to you at one time, you may be required to lead the entire camp in coordination and planning on a daily/ weekly basis and you may be asked to arrive early or stay late to oversee/ assist with camp prep and cleaning up. This position requires a commitment to Mill Valley Summer Camp programming and may be between a 20 to 40 hour a week position. 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

• Ability to develop, coordinate, plan, implement and supervise the day-to-day activities, themes and special events for an ongoing summer day camp. 
• Create and maintain a safe and creative camp environment. 
• Demonstrate excellent customer service and communicate effectively with co-workers, parents, and campers. 
• Supervise, direct and motivate subordinate camp counselors and counselors-in-training. 
• Maintain registration, attendance, and activity records; ensure the proper pick-up/drop-off of campers.

THE DEPARTMENT

The American Canyon Police Department provides first response services to all forms of emergencies and crises.  The Department provides public safety by enforcing the Penal Code, Health and Safety Code, Vehicle Code, and local ordinances.  American Canyon Police Department is comprised of 24 sworn peace officers, two non-sworn Police Technicians, and an Administrative Clerk.

THE POSITION

The Police Technician performs a variety of non-sworn, administrative and field support tasks associated with law enforcement support services, which may include property and evidence collection, crime prevention, parking enforcement, vehicle abatement, and community relations; to maintain confidential and highly sensitive records related to police activities; and to perform a variety of tasks relative to assigned areas of responsibility.

This is a high-profile position with frequent interactions with community members in often difficult circumstances. The quality of the work performed in this role is reflective of the standards of the Department and the City. This is a uniformed, civilian position that does not require peace officer status. However, a detailed background investigation, medical exam and drug screening is required due to the sensitive nature of the work involved.

This position is not designated for retired annuitants.

 

THE POSITION

Typical duties performed by a Police Technician may include, but are not limited to, the following:
 

• Patrol areas of the City to identify and resolve parking violations and traffic hazards and enforce applicable laws; respond to citizen complaints regarding parking and abandoned vehicle laws; tag and arrange transportation of abandoned vehicles.
• Provide assistance, information and directions to motorists; assist in the coordination of Police Service support for special events in the community; provide traffic control at local schools.
• Respond to non-emergency calls and service requests; take information from citizens and prepare crime reports for non-active calls; interview victims, suspects and witnesses, as directed, and provide referral information.

• Log and distribute subpoenas to officers and citizens.

• Handle the abandoned vehicle program to include locating and citing abandoned vehicles and overseeing the towing away of the vehicle.

• Assist Police Officers with vehicle and person searches.
• Drive a City vehicle to respond to citizen/officer requests; assist and support patrol division in the performance of their duties in the field.

Supervision

Physical Demands

• Assumes direct responsibility for managing a variety of projects and programs; oversee assigned administrative support functions including budget.
• Supervises, plans, organizes, and reviews the work of lower level technical and clerical staff.

• Compiles narrative, fiscal and status reports on department, division, project and fund revenues and expenditures and assists with necessary adjustments.

• A master’s degree in public administration, public policy, or business administration is highly desirable.

Senior Management Analyst I:

• Three to four years of progressively responsible analytical experience.

Senior Management Analyst II (in addition to the requirements for the Senior Management Analyst I, this level requires):

• Five years or more of experience performing increasingly complex, professional analytical work with a high degree of autonomy.
