The City of Berkeley is currently accepting applications for Behavioral Health Clinician I and/or Behavioral Health Clinician II in the Health, Housing & Community Services (HHCS) Department. A commitment to cultural competence and a wellness/recovery orientation are essential to the work of the Mental Health and Aging Services Divisions. 

The employment eligible list established from this recruitment will be valid for one year, during which the department will have access to the list for all current and future vacancies.

Behavioral Health Clinician I:
Behavioral Health Clinicians at this level provide a variety of community behavioral health services to clients and to the community in an outpatient setting. Responsibilities include conducting assessments; performing case coordination, care management, and rehabilitative services; providing diagnosis and treatment plans; providing psychotherapy; providing linkage to resources and support to maintain resources; and preparing reports, case summaries, and other required forms.

Behavioral Health Clinician II:
At this level, Behavioral Health Clinicians handle more complex or difficult client cases. In addition to the responsibilities of a Behavioral Health Clinician I, incumbents at this level may lead teams conducting intake assessments and crisis intervention. 

Required Qualifications

Both positions require a master's degree from a recognized school of Social Work, Counseling, Psychiatric Nursing, or other Marriage and Family Therapy eligible discipline, or a doctorate degree in Psychology. 

Behavioral Health Clinician I:

Field placement of at least one (1) year in a medical, psychiatric, or community mental health setting

AND

Registration as an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT), Associate Clinical Social Worker (ACSW), and/or Associate Professional Clinical Counselor (APCC) with the State of California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) OR a Registered Psychologist with the Board of Psychology. 

Behavioral Health Clinician II: 

Two (2) years of experience in an out-patient clinic, hospital, child guidance clinic, mental health program, or family agency which included regular psychiatric consultation

AND

License as a Clinical Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist, LPCC, or Psychologist, as provided for by California state law.

The Department

The Position

As a key member of the Police Department's management team, the Police Records Administrator (Manager) plans, organizes and supervises the activities of a Police Records Unit engaged in the processing of police reports and warrants, the accessing of law enforcement information networks, the preparation of records for prosecution, and reception of the general public. The incumbent has considerable latitude in the application of departmental policy, following general guidelines and professional and administrative standards in accomplishing assignments. Review of work is occasional or on a problem basis with the incumbent presenting alternative courses of action and responsible for implementation of changes. The position may also provide oversight and coordination of digital evidence and the Property & Evidence Unit activities.

The Ideal Candidate

The selected candidate will possess advanced level knowledge of procedures and protocols used in police records policies. In addition, the successful candidate will possess strong written and oral communication abilities and the ability to demonstrate proficiency interpreting and explaining department policies and procedures.

The Position

The Police Communications Call Taker (Per Diem) receives emergency and non-emergency call for service, performs technical support duties in police department communications, and performs related duties as required. The position requires excellent customer service and communication skills.

Examples of Job Duties

• Determines priority of calls for service and forwards information to the appropriate dispatcher for dissemination to field units.
• Receives, monitors and transmits messages over a variety of communication networks.
• Receives information, questions and requests for service from the public.
• Types and records activity and status reports.
• Records, classifies and maintains records of all communications.
• Answers or refers to others for answers to questions and requests for information.
• Provides information to field units, other agencies and the public.
• Sends and receives printed information via computer terminals.
• Monitors closed circuit television system.
• Receives and routes a variety of law enforcement reports, warrants and other materials.
• Performs a variety of other duties in support of the police department information and communications functions as required.

The Ideal Candidate 

The successful candidate will possess excellent customer service and communication skills with the ability to maintain accurate and up-to-date records. Additionally, the ideal candidate will be able to develop and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, and department staff. Dispatcher and/or Call Taker work experience in a public safety department/agency is highly desirable.

Education: High school degree or equivalent

Experience: Some public contact experience

Special Requirements: Must be 18 years of age. The selected candidate must be without functional color blindness. Ability to type at least 45 net words per minute is required. The Newark Recreation and Community Services Department is looking for Senior Lifeguards for our fantastic swim lesson and aquatic programs and the upcoming to work at the year-round Silliman Activity & Family Aquatic Center. We are looking for positive, patient, motivated, self-driven individuals that have a passion for working in aquatics and with children, who wish to make a difference in a child's life by teaching them lifelong water skills! Swimming experience is required. Additional program training will be provided once hired. Those that are successful in the application review will be invited to attend an interview either in person, or via ZOOM and complete an in-person skills assessment. Please note that this position requires you to work in an indoor aquatic environment subject to warm/humid temperatures.
