The Department:

The Position:

May be responsible for noticing, advertising, and calendaring public hearings.

THE DEPARTMENT

The Public Works Department is comprised of the Engineering, Maintenance, and Water Quality Control Plant divisions.  The Engineering Division is responsible for delivering facilities and infrastructures that meet the needs of City residents and complying with standards and requirements established in the engineering guidelines and the City's Master Plan.

The Engineering Division is headed by the Principal Engineer.  The Senior Engineer position is an advanced-level engineering classification requiring professional registration, performing a wide variety of engineering duties in civil, sanitary, traffic, and other municipal public works, maintenance, and construction engineering projects.  This class is distinguished from other lower-level engineering classes in that it provides direction to staff and performs the more complex engineering and project management assignments.  Assignments and projects may be long-term or may constitute a major portion of a continuous or comprehensive engineering or Capital Improvement Program.

THE POSITIONS

Associate Civil Engineer

Under general direction, the Associate Civil Engineer performs difficult professional engineering work in the design and construction of public works, including sanitary, traffic, and mechanical projects; leads and trains lower-level engineering staff on assigned projects; and does related work as required.

The City of Foster City is actively seeking a dedicated and responsible individual to join our team as a Building Services Assistant. In this role, you will provide physical set-up arrangements for classes, meetings, activities for public and private functions in the community buildings; assure security of buildings; and providing public information about recreation activities. This is a part-time, non-benefited position.

Education and Training Guidelines
Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way would be: 

• Education: Completion of the tenth grade or equivalent.
• Experience: Providing public services, information or directions; or performing group function arrangements or coordination is desirable.

Special Requirements

LARPD is seeking a summer intern to support the Summer Youth Volunteer Program.  Applicants should have the equivalent of one year of college credits completed toward a degree.  Candidates interested in learning about recreation, volunteer management, and community services will be given preference.  Interested candidates should complete an application online. Community Outreach: Summer Youth Volunteers Project Plan 

The Community Outreach team is seeking a summer intern for a 10–12-week assignment.  The goal of the internship is to gain valuable experience managing high school aged volunteers that will support a variety of summer camps and programs throughout the district.  

Key duties 

• Be primary point of contact for Summer Youth Volunteers. 

• Assist with volunteer orientation and ongoing training sessions throughout the summer. 

• Oversee volunteer schedule. 

• Track volunteer hours logging. 

• Create program completion documents. 

• Assist with planning end of summer recognition event. 

Key deliverables will be: 

• Maintain volunteer hour tracking and create end of summer recap report. 

• Complete summer training and check-in reports. 

• Create and distribute volunteer completion certification with hours totals for all summer volunteers. 

• Report any concerns from staff and volunteers or development opportunities for volunteers through regular check-ins. 

What learning will occur for the intern? 

• Experience managing volunteers. 

• Learn how summer programs work/run in a special district.  

• Gain familiarity with volunteer management software. 

• Graphic design creating infographics and end-of-summer reports.

Timing

Work hours will be Monday – Friday 9:00 am – 5:00 pm, 40 hours per week during the 12 weeks of employment.  The pay rate will be $20 per hour.  All interns will be required to successfully complete a Department of Justice fingerprint clearance and undergo a TB test as a condition of employment.

Community Services Intern Project Plan

The Community Services team is seeking a summer intern for a 7-10-week assignment.  The goal of the internship is to allow a student to gain hands-on experience working alongside experienced youth development and recreation staff and assisting in promoting a safe, healthy environment within the camp setting by providing emotional support to the participants. 

Key duties

• Provides guidance, support, and assistance to staff throughout the week, which includes managing camper behavior issues, stress, and personal care needs
• Process critical incidents with supervisory staff.
• Participate in the intern group project.
• Provide support and be a role model to all participants.

Key deliverables will be:

• A training plan for camp staff to better understand best practices in working with children with special needs.
• Protocols to be followed when a situation arises with a child and what steps to take
• A template to be used for a behavior plan to include goals and actions. 

What learning will occur for the intern?

• Working in a recreation setting for a special district
• Being part of a strong staff team
• The creation of action plans to be used in a camp setting
• Communication with staff, participants, and parents

The Position and Responsibilties

As a member of the Public Works, Engineering Division, in the Development Section, the Engineering Technician I/II will perform a wide variety of support functions to assist with customer service, development review and permitting.

Examples of Job Duties

General Duties for both the Technician I and II in all assignments:

• Operates a variety of office machines, calculators, personal computers and a variety of software applications.
• Makes initial review of project submittals and RFI's and routes correctly.
• Under the direction of a registered engineer, prepares manually or through CAD diagrams for field design changes.

Engineering Technician I (Development Section)

• Reviews and issues encroachment permits for work in the public right-of-way to residents, private utility companies including but not limited to PG&E, AT&T, Comcast, Alameda County Water District (ACWD) and Union Sanitary District (USD).
• Assists the Project Engineer in the review of private development applications from planning entitlement phase, to issuance of building permits, to approval of final/parcel maps and construction of any public improvements required to support the proposed development.
• Provides customer service at the Development Service Center related to private development applications and requirements for issuance of encroachment permits.

Engineering Technician II (Development Section)

In addition to the duties listed above for Engineering Technician I:

• Participates in the review and recommendation process for more complex encroachment and grading permits.

SUMMER AQUATIC STAFF POSITIONS
Salary Range: $16.54 to $29.22/hour; non-benefited, DOE and position offered

The Town of Danville strives to provide an aquatic environment that is safe, instructive and fun through recreational and lap swim, special events, the Learn to Swim program, Junior Lifeguard program and Lifeguard training classes.

PROGRAM LEADER (SWIM INSTRUCTOR/LIFEGUARD)

Salary Range: $16.54 to $22.05/hour

QUALIFICATIONS  
Applicants must be at least 15 years of age.  Required certifications by the end of Staff Training Week:  American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid (Lifeguard).  

Aquatics staff members generally work 3-5 hours per day, in morning, afternoon, or evening shifts at San Ramon Valley High School or Monte Vista Pools.  Most staff members will work an average of 15-20 hours per week, up to a maximum of 37.5 hours per week. 

SUPERVISION 
Under the general supervision of the Pool Managers, Program Coordinator and Program Supervisor, the Swim Instructor/Lifeguard is responsible for ensuring aquatic safety and providing instruction for pool patrons.  Swim Instructors/Lifeguards must enjoy working with children and the general public, be patient, reliable and have lots of energy.  

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES 
Job duties include lifeguarding, swim lesson instruction, leading pool programming, mandatory staff training, pulling tarps, required daily fitness swims, and administrative duties, including some weekend shifts.  Also: 

• Provide aquatic safety and instruction for pool patrons.
• Use positive discipline and communicate effectively with parents/guardians.
• Perform duties within OSHA standards.

PROGRAM ASSISTANT (SENIOR GUARD)

Salary Range: $17.64 to $29.22/hour

QUALIFICATIONS 
Applicants must be at least 17 years of age.  Required certifications by the end of Staff Training Week: American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, and it is preferable to have a Water Safety Instructor certificate as well. Senior Guards must have at least two years of lifeguard/swim instructor experience; leadership experience is highly desired.

• Maintains proper and accurate attendance and cash handling records.
• Perform duties within OSHA standards.

The Position:

This is a part-time receptionist position with the City of Mateo Aquatics Section for Summer 2024. Positions available at Joinville Swim Center and King Community Pool. It does not include any benefits other than coverage under Workman’s Compensation.
 

Qualifications:

Must be at least 16 years old and have the ability to obtain a work permit, if under the age of 18. Applicants must have strong public contact and telephone answering skills and

present a mature and neat public appearance. Experience in handling money and computer knowledge is highly recommended. Familiarity with the Recreation Department and programs is desirable.

Office Staff Responsibilities:

Front Desk Receptionists answer patron questions and phone calls, directing inquiries to staff and or providing accurate informed responses concerning the Recreation Department programs, classes and activities. Receptionists will also accept and complete class registrations. The successful applicant will also be expected to accept fees and reconcile transactions.   Training is included.
