The Position

Senior planners will perform the following major duties:

• Process permit applications and assist in plan checking of permit requests.
• Confer with applicants to clarify information relative to zoning, general plan compliance, signage and other issues.
• Review routine to complex development proposals, applications, permits and plans for completeness and compliance.
• Prepare and review environmental impact reports, written initial studies, negative declarations, and staff reports.
• Assist the public as well as advise architects, builders, attorneys, contractors, engineers on matters relating to land use, zoning, code interpretation, general plan compliance, signage, and other issues related to the City’s entitlement process.
• Supervise lower-level planners and/or interns.

EXAM PROCESS

The exam process will include, but may not be limited to:

• Application review for minimum qualifications and required documents
• Written Exam: POST Entry-Level Dispatcher Test (See job announcement for upcoming City of Berkeley exam dates)

Applicants who have previously taken the POST Entry-Level Dispatcher Test may waive the written exam only by submitting a T-score of 48 points or higher provided the test was taken no more than one year prior to the date of application. Applicants must submit their results, including the total T-score and date of the test, on the testing agency's letterhead. If you have previously taken the POST Entry-Level Dispatcher Test and would like to retest with the City of Berkeley, you must wait 30 calendar days before being eligible to take the test again.

The Position

The City of Fremont currently has a vacancy for the position of Park Maintenance Worker I. The Park Maintenance Worker I performs routine maintenance and repair work in the care of parks, recreation areas and equipment. The selected candidate will be part of a work crew assigned to a daily work detail.

THE POSITION

Under general supervision, the Plan Check Engineer performs independent building and plan examinations for construction or alteration of industrial, commercial, and residential structures; determines compliance with applicable codes, laws, and regulations; and performs other duties as assigned.

POSITION

A Dispatcher I is a civilian employee of the Police Department who performs a variety of tasks in the Department’s Support Services Division. The Dispatcher I receives incoming calls for police assistance and response; acts as a primary Dispatcher when appropriate; performs a variety of general support duties related to police communications; completes a wide variety of general clerical duties.

The Dispatcher I duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Answer emergency and non-emergency police related phone calls, help prioritize requests for service based upon available resources, receive radio requests and handle accordingly, type, process and file a wide variety of reports and materials including memos, letters, complaints, declarations, warrants, citations, crime and traffic reports.  Assists Department personnel and the public in person and by phone performing record checks, collecting fees and mailing requested reports to outside agencies in accordance with established regulations.  A Dispatcher I may be assigned to work various hours, shifts, holidays, weekends and overtime.

QUALIFICATIONS

A combination of education and work experience including 2-3 years of general office work involving typing of varied materials, public contact, general filing and basic record keeping; type at least 40 wpm net.  Knowledge of business English, spelling; modern office practices and procedures; record keeping. Ability to learn assigned clerical tasks readily and to adhere to prescribed routine; write English legibly; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public; type and learn the operation of other standard office equipment; a willingness to work varying shifts; and to learn radio dispatching skills.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

• Salary:  $6,252 - $8,059 per month
• Medical Benefits: Choice of coverage with Kaiser or Blue Shield. The City pays 80% of monthly premiums at each coverage level. The Solid Waste Manager reports directly to the Environmental Services Manager and is responsible for the administration of multiple integrated waste management contracts and programs within the Environmental Services Division. This position supervises a team of technical staff who execute various integrated solid waste management activities and may serve as the division head in the absence of the Environmental Services Manager.

• Manage multiple City franchise agreements for solid waste collection, material transfer and recovery, and landfill disposal including negotiating contract terms and monitoring performance.

• Oversee the Division’s public education, outreach, and special events to promote environmentally responsible and sustainable behavior.
• Analyze proposed legislation affecting integrated waste management activities, develops and implements program and policies to ensure City compliance with regulatory mandates.
• Conduct analysis and prepare reports and documents as required by regulatory agencies and for City Council study sessions and meetings.

The Position

The Senior Landscape Architect will plan, supervise, and review the work of City Landscape Architect staff. The incumbent will: coordinate and oversee various landscape projects; perform professional landscape architect work in conjunction with the design and preparation of plans, specifications and cost estimates for the development and rehabilitation of parks, landscaped areas and street beautification projects; inspect and review the work of developers and contractors landscaping for conformance with plans and specifications; and give professional advice on landscape matters.

• Organize and oversee the landscape design and layout of parks, recreational areas, roadway medians and pedestrian ways.
• Plan, supervise, review, and evaluate the work of professional City and contract staff.
• Train staff in work procedures.

• Oversee and coordinate the Parks Capital Improvement Plan update for the Department.

• Conduct park location studies to evaluate park site feasibility and proposed development.
