DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This entry-level classification in the Program Leader series is responsible for providing child development services in Youth Services programs. Incumbents at this level are not expected to function with the same amount of knowledge or skill level as positions allocated to the Senior Program Leader level, and usually exercise less independent discretion and judgment in matters related to work procedures and methods. Work is usually supervised while in progress and fits an established structure or pattern. Exceptions or changes in procedures are explained in detail as they arise. As experience is gained, assignments become more varied and are performed with greater independence.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Provides support duties for child development services in Youth Services programs; assists children in activities; prepares and serves snacks based on established guidelines; performs clean-up and food storage duties.

2. Assists in preparing instructional, craft, and other materials; participates in, and encourages, play activities with the children; may assist in providing tutorial and/or remedial activities in small groups.

3. Uses positive reinforcement strategies to maintain order and discipline within the classroom; handles disruptions as needed.

4. Opens, secures, and cleans program areas before and after program use; prepares program areas for scheduled activities and events.

5. Assists in the implementation and monitoring of District procedures with respect to participant safety.

6. May participate in staff meetings, family conferences, and other special meetings; observes and monitors family conditions and notifies supervisor of concerns as appropriate.

7. Assists with maintaining required and appropriate documentation, including observation notes, logs, and other records.

8. May participate in public relations, outreach, and community education activities.

9. Attends staff training, workshops, and courses as directed by supervisor.

Education and Experience:

•  High School Diploma or GED, or currently enrolled in child development Regional Occupational Program (ROP).
•  Experience working with children in a childcare or educational setting is desirable.

Knowledge of:

• Child development services, operations, and activities.
•  Modern office practices, methods, computer equipment, and applications related to the work.
•  Principles and practices for providing high level of customer service

Ability to:

•  Learn policies, rules, regulations, operations, services, and activities related to assigned activities.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must possess: mobility to perform medium physical work; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone or radio. The classification supports indoor and outdoor programs requiring frequent walking, running, conducting exercises, and related physical activities. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard, calculator, or tools and equipment used in assigned program area. Program activities may require sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping, and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties; the ability to lift, carry, and push tools, equipment, and supplies weighing up to 40 pounds or heavier weights with assistance and/or the use of proper equipment.

ENVIRONMENTAL ELEMENTS

Incumbents work in both indoor and outdoor environments with moderate to loud noise levels. May work in controlled temperature conditions, cold and hot temperatures, or inclement weather conditions. May be exposed to communicable illnesses, blood, and body fluids. Incumbents will interact with individuals in interpreting and enforcing rules, policies, and procedures.

The City of Berkeley invites you to apply for the position of Camp Maintenance Mechanic (Non-Career Intermittent) in the Parks, Recreation and Waterfront Department! In this role, you will have the opportunity to keep our camps running smoothly by performing both routine and heavy, physical work in the construction, maintenance, repair and cleaning of camp facilities. You'll operate a variety of hand and power tools to perform preventive maintenance and repair.

Our two overnight camps are located near South Lake Tahoe and Yosemite. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

When assigned to development review, you will have the opportunity to review residential, commercial, industrial and public works project plans, traffic impact reports, and other development and design related documents for compliance with City of Berkeley standards and regulations including all applicable local, state, and federal codes and guidelines; evaluate and recommend mitigation measures to address adverse impacts of development projects; review plan checks for small developments; and review traffic control plans for construction projects.

When assigned to capital projects designs and traffic signal systems, you will have the opportunity to manage capital improvement projects including development of conceptual design options, detailed engineering design, bid, and construction administration; prepare council reports, conduct presentations, and respond to project-related public inquiries; design/review traffic engineering design elements for Complete Streets Projects and traffic calming projects; work with project development team to analyze street and road use for all road users focusing on safety and efficiency of transportation networks; and work with traffic signal maintenance team to maintain and upgrade city’s traffic signal system, including using Synchro traffic signal timing software. An ideal candidate in this role is proficient in scope, schedule, and cost management with managing multiple projects and competing priorities simultaneously as well as working knowledge of complete streets design principles, traffic calming and traffic control elements, civil engineering, roadway design, and Citywide plans including Bike Plan and Pedestrian Plan.

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university with major course work in civil or traffic engineering and five years of increasingly responsible traffic engineering experience, three years of which were at a level equivalent to the Assistant Transportation Engineer class. Progressively responsible related experience may be substituted for the college course work on a year for year basis.

Other requirements include possession of a valid California Registration as a professional Traffic Engineer or a professional Civil Engineer. A CA Registration as a Traffic Engineer is preferred. Candidates must also possess a valid California driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record. Desirable qualifications include a master's degree in Transportation Engineering/Planning or a related field.

Minimum Qualifications for consideration: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Education/Training: Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.

Experience: Two years of general maintenance experience performing field maintenance work within the assigned area of responsibility.

POSITION INFORMATION

Livermore Area Recreation and Park District is currently recruiting  for Preschool Teachers  who are cheerful, child focused, and creative to plan themed based programs. This position will be responsible for planning curriculum, engaging in conversations with children (age 4 and 5), assist children in projects, supervise indoor and outdoor play, interact with parents, oversee the direction of the assigned teacher assistant, and be responsible for the overall safety of the children in the program.  

Minimum educational requirement: 12 ECE units in the core classes. Must have experience and understanding of working with preschool children. 

Schedule: This position will be three days per week: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday; 8:30 a.m- 1:00 p.m.

This is the entry-level classification in the Park Ranger series responsible for performing a variety of routine maintenance for District parks and open space areas and facilities.  Incumbents at this level receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies.  Work is reviewed upon completion for soundness, appropriateness, and conformity to policy and requirements.  This class is distinguished from the Park Ranger in that the latter provides enforcement of land use laws and regulations and serves as a Peace Officer under the California Penal Code.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

7. Receives and responds to questions, concerns, and complaints from patrons; determines issues and resolves or refers to Park Ranger or Chief Ranger as needed.
8. Performs custodial tasks.
9. Assists with preparing marketing and educational material; may assist with program delivery.
10. Assists in emergencies involving injury, illness, fire, hazardous water conditions, or other critical incidences by notifying proper authorities; provides first aid/medical care to the level of training.
11. Inspects facilities and grounds for safety and security; identifies and reports hazardous conditions and facility maintenance needs to supervisor.
12. Follows safe working practices and makes appropriate use of related safety equipment as required.
13. Performs administrative tasks, such as attending meetings and training, preparing reports, monitoring expenditures, and maintaining records.
14. Assists with District special events as needed.

A Dispatcher II is a civilian employee of the Police Department who performs a variety of tasks in the Department’s Support Services Division. The Dispatcher II acts as the Department’s primary dispatcher, receiving and relaying incoming calls for emergency and non-emergency assistance; dispatching police units; operating a variety of telecommunications equipment including radio, telephone, and computer-aided dispatch systems; status monitoring, records and file maintenance in a computer-aided environment; and entry level dispatch training. A Dispatcher II may be assigned to work various hours, shifts, holidays, weekends and overtime.

Additional duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: prioritize requests for service based upon available resources, receive radio requests and handle accordingly, type, process and file a wide variety of reports and materials including memos, letters, complaints, declarations, warrants, citations, crime and traffic reports.  Assists Department personnel and the public in person and by phone performing record checks, collecting fees and mailing requested reports to outside agencies in accordance with established regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS

Have a combination of education and work experience, including a minimum of 1 year of dispatch work; general office work involving typing of varied materials, public contact, general filing and basic record keeping; type at least 40 wpm (net).  Have knowledge of business English, spelling; modern office practices and procedures; record keeping. Ability to dispatch police units quickly and effectively; work under pressure; exercise independent judgment; work with minimal supervision; make sound decisions in emergency situations; learn assigned clerical tasks readily and to adhere to prescribed routine; write English legibly; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public; operate computer-aided dispatch system, 911 emergency telephone, and other multi-line telephone systems, various law enforcement telecommunications systems, radio console with headsets and handsets, computer keyboards, cameras, intercoms, security. Willingness to work varying shifts and radio dispatching skills.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

The City of Pleasant Hill offers a competitive compensation and benefits program.

• Salary:  $6,538 to $8,468 per month. Placement within the range depends on experience and qualifications.  
• Medical Benefits: Choice of coverage with Kaiser or Blue Shield. The City pays 80% of monthly premiums at each coverage level. In lieu of medical coverage, the City will contribute $400 (employee only coverage) or $500 (employee + 1 coverage) or $600 (family coverage) into a MissionSquare 457 deferred compensation plan
• Retirement: CalPERS enrollment (PEPRA New Member 2% @ 62; Classic Member 2% @ 60)
• Dental & Vision Coverage: City-paid dental and vision coverage for employee and eligible dependents

• Uniform Allowance: $1,080 per year, adjusted annually per cost of living
• Shift Differential Pay: 5% of the employee’s base hourly wage
• Educational Degree Incentive: 1.25% AA Degree or 60 semester/90 quarter units; 5% Bachelor’s Degree or 120 semester/180 quarter units; 7.5% MA/MS Degree
• Educational Expense Reimbursement: City will reimburse for tuition, books and technology upgrades up to $500 per semester or quarter
• On Duty Exercise Program: 1 hour per shift
• Probationary Period: One year (12 months)

SELECTION PROCESS

CONTINUOUS RECRUITMENT: Candidates are encouraged to apply early.  Initial screening of applications is tentatively set for March 29, 2024.  After that, applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis.  You must ensure complete submission of employment application and typing certificate as recruitment may close at any time.  The most qualified applicants based on background and experience as evidenced by their application, will be invited for an oral board interview, which is weighted 100%.  To be placed on an eligibility list, an applicant must receive a passing score of 70 or more from each panel member.

A thorough background check, as well as a physical, drug screen, psychological evaluation, and polygraph exam will be conducted on the top candidates prior to appointment consideration.  Failure to achieve a qualifying score on any portion of the examination process will eliminate a candidate from further consideration.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

Education:

• Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Economics, Business Administration, Marketing, Public Relations, Public Administration, or a related field.
• A Master’s Degree in Urban Planning, Economics, Business Administration, Marketing, Public Relations or Public Administration is desirable.

Experience:

• Six (6) years of progressively responsible experience in economic development, redevelopment, real estate development, or related field including two (2) years of supervisory experience.

License:

• Possession of a valid driver license and a satisfactory driving record throughout employment.
