The City of Thousand Oaks is seeking a Deputy/Assistant City Attorney (DOE) to join our team!  This position supports the City Attorney’s Office in achieving long-term goals and outcomes through sound legal counsel and is responsible for protecting the legal interests and assets of the City with the highest level of professionalism, ethics, and dedication to serve the City of Thousand Oaks for the benefit of its citizens. 

The Deputy/Assistant City Attorney must be able to communicate with impact, possess excellent interpersonal skills, cultivate productive working relationships, possess a strong client support focus, and provide expert legal counsel on a wide variety of complex legal matters.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Perform all phases of pretrial, trial, and appellate work; develop strategy, prepare briefs, draft pleadings, motions, and arguments, and conduct discovery and depositions in preparation for the presentation of the City’s case; file motions and briefs.
• Conduct research, provide legal opinions and advice, investigate, evaluate, and resolve complex legal matters on a wide variety of issues; draft legal documents such as contracts, resolutions, and ordinances.
• Attend meetings of and provide advice to the City’s official boards and commissions as requested by the City Attorney; represent the City in administrative hearings and negotiations
• Monitor and prepare comments on proposed federal and state legislation and regulations; recommend changes in City policies and practices to comply with legal requirements.
• Conduct legal review of all claims filed against the City.
• Provide staff assistance to the City Attorney; complete special projects as assigned.
• Maintain effective relationships with a variety of community organizations, groups, and individuals to promote positive public relations; coordinate assigned activities with those of other departments and outside agencies and organizations.

Applications are being accepted for the position of Engineering Intern (part-time hourly/temporary) with the City of South San Francisco’s Public Works Department - Engineering Division.

THE DEPARTMENT

The Public Works Department is comprised of the Engineering, Maintenance, and Water Quality Control Plant divisions.  The Engineering Division is responsible for delivering facilities and infrastructures that meet the needs of City residents and complying with standards and requirements established in the engineering guidelines and the City's Master Plan.

The Engineering Division is headed by the Principal Engineer.  The Senior Engineer position is an advanced-level engineering classification requiring professional registration, performing a wide variety of engineering duties in civil, sanitary, traffic, and other municipal public works, maintenance, and construction engineering projects.  This class is distinguished from other lower-level engineering classes in that it provides direction to staff and performs the more complex engineering and project management assignments.  Assignments and projects may be long-term or may constitute a major portion of a continuous or comprehensive engineering or Capital Improvement Program.

THE POSITIONS

Associate Civil Engineer

Under general direction, the Associate Civil Engineer performs difficult professional engineering work in the design and construction of public works, including sanitary, traffic, and mechanical projects; leads and trains lower-level engineering staff on assigned projects; and does related work as required.

The City of Fremont Public Works Department is recruiting for Engineering Technician I/II (Development).

The Position and Responsibilties

As a member of the Public Works, Engineering Division, in the Development Section, the Engineering Technician I/II will perform a wide variety of support functions to assist with customer service, development review and permitting.

Examples of Job Duties

General Duties for both the Technician I and II in all assignments:

• Operates a variety of office machines, calculators, personal computers and a variety of software applications.
• Makes initial review of project submittals and RFI's and routes correctly.
• Under the direction of a registered engineer, prepares manually or through CAD diagrams for field design changes.

Engineering Technician I (Development Section)

• Reviews and issues encroachment permits for work in the public right-of-way to residents, private utility companies including but not limited to PG&E, AT&T, Comcast, Alameda County Water District (ACWD) and Union Sanitary District (USD).
• Assists the Project Engineer in the review of private development applications from planning entitlement phase, to issuance of building permits, to approval of final/parcel maps and construction of any public improvements required to support the proposed development.
• Provides customer service at the Development Service Center related to private development applications and requirements for issuance of encroachment permits.

Engineering Technician II (Development Section)

In addition to the duties listed above for Engineering Technician I:

• Participates in the review and recommendation process for more complex encroachment and grading permits.

Position Summary

 

Under general supervision, operates a variety of transit vehicles to transport passengers along specific, assigned routes according to the District's requirements.  Provide service in a safe, courteous and reliable manner.   Responsible for written reports and other information as required.  Upon completion of the Golden Gate Transit Training Program, the employee operates regularly scheduled assignments.  All runs will originate in either Santa Rosa, Novato or San Rafael.

Hourly Pay: $30.23/hour to $35.57/hour


 If selected for the position, new hires will need to complete Golden Gate Bridge, Highway & Transportation District’s Bus Operator Apprenticeship Program ($30.23/hr benefits not included) which is approximately twelve (12) weeks, Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Upon successful completion of training: $32.01 per hour, plus benefits. All new hires will be required to complete a 120 probationary period upon completion of training.

Essential Responsibilities

 

• Transports passengers along assigned routes, making designated stops as required or requested.
• Uses the fare box to accurately collect fares, issues transfers and gives general information.
• Completes reports on patron count, non-scheduled mileage, vehicular deficiencies, fare box, accidents and other reports as required.
• Operates automatic lift on buses and assists passengers in wheelchairs, those using crutches or walkers, or who have speech or mental difficulty.
• Ensures that Driver’s license and all other documents required of a commercial licensee are maintained and are current and valid.
• Knows and follows the safety and health rules and safe working practices applicable to his or her job.
• Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with District employees, customers, vendors and all others contacted during the course of work using principles of excellent customer service. 
• Performs additional related duties as assigned. 
• Regular and reliable attendance and performance are required.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

• No experience is necessary. 
• Must be a licensed driver for at least seven (7) years prior to the date of this posting. Candidates who are currently enrolled in the Bus Operator Pre-Apprenticeship Program and a licensed driver for at least 3 years are eligible to apply, pending successful completion of the pre-apprenticeship program. 
• Satisfactory Driving Record (as stated below).
• Must pass the Student Bus Driver Training program and Probationary period.

 

REQUIRED LICENSE:  

• Must possess and maintain a current, valid California driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.

The Position: 
 
This is a professional position in the unclassified service, responsible for managing the one or more of the Engineering Divisions of the Electric Department relating to transmission planning, distribution engineering, capital improvement project delivery (design & construction), system expansion program, and environmental compliance.  The position requires a demonstrated ability to work well with management, professional and administrative support employees in the Department and with customers, professionals, managers and all City Departments.

Typical Duties

Duties include but are not limited to the following:

Under general direction: 
• Plan, develop, coordinate, perform, and direct the activities of the Engineering Division of the Electric Utility Department;
• Provide management and supervision for all activities of Engineering in the planning, engineering and design of individual system extensions, revisions and improvements;
• Provide recommendations on a broad spectrum of division-related issues;
• Manage assigned staff, provide technical instructions and assistance as necessary; develop, perform and manage the implementation of utility plans based upon applicable State and Federal laws;
• May be responsible for directing the activities of consultants and contractors;
• Attend meetings and work with engineers, contractors, specialists and City staff to ensure that City guidelines are met in the determination of requirements of projects;
• Represent the City at industry meetings, management groups, professional organizations, and other meetings;
• Make periodic and special reports, which describe the current Engineering Division activities and conduct special studies and prepare reports, including findings and recommendations, as required;
• Direct or conduct studies and analysis related to the reliability of the electric system to ensure compliance with appropriate Federal Energy Regulatory Commission/North American Electric Reliability Corporation (FERC/NERC) and industry reliability standards;
• Prepare or direct the preparation of purchase specifications required to implement Electric Utility Department purchases in connection with system expansion and improvements;
• Conduct review and analysis of new equipment, methods and materials pertinent to the design, construction, operation and maintenance of the electric system, and make recommendations to appropriate Managers;
• Confer with and assist the Director of Electric Utility in the development of long-range plans, goals and objectives, and budgets;
• Manage, schedule and evaluate the work of Engineering Division staff, and develop processes designed to support a continuous learning environment;
• Analyze Engineering Division operations to determine the most efficient and effective assignment of staff;
• Prepare the Engineering Division budget, recommend allocation of division funds within guidelines; monitor expenditures to ensure adherence to the approved budget, manage contractual services;
• Administer and assist in the staffing, administrative and financial matters of the Engineering Division; and
• Perform other related duties as assigned. 

Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
• Education or experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or closely related field; and
• Four (4) years experience at a responsible level in engineering in the electric utility industry or closely related field is required. 

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE
• One (1) year of experience managing staff, and with responsibility for division budget planning and administration is desirable.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
• Possession of a certificate of registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of California is desirable.

POSSIBLE SUBSTITUTION
• Possession of a valid certificate of registration as an Electrical Engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration for Civil and Professional Engineers may be substituted in lieu of a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or closely related field.
