Streets & Construction Worker I

$19.00 -$24.32 per hour

The City of Chowchilla is seeking a Streets & Construction I, under general supervision, to perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the maintenance and repair of streets, sidewalks, gutters, facilities, trees and other public service activities, and to perform related work as required.

THE POSITION(S)

Streets & Construction Worker I:

This is an entry-level class under close supervision, performs any combination of the following duties on construction projects, usually working in utility capacity, by transferring from one task to another where demands require worker with varied experience and ability.  Work is usually performed with other workers.  This class may advance to Streets & Construction Worker II after gaining experience and demonstrating proficiency to meet the qualification of the higher-level class.

Prerequisites:   Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school (or G.E.D equivalent to graduation) and two years’ experience performing a variety of skilled and semi-skilled construction and/or maintenance involving buildings, grounds, streets and sidewalks.

Water System Worker III (Lead Position)

($25.51- $32.66 per hour)

The City of Chowchilla is seeking a Water System Worker III to assist in the operation and maintenance of the City’s water distribution system, including pumps, mains, chlorinators, meters, and other equipment; and do related work as required on an assigned shift, under general supervision of the Utilities Systems Supervisor and/or Director of Public Works.

Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator I

($21.49– 27.50 per hour)

The City of Chowchilla is seeking a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator I for the operation and maintenance of the City’s Wastewater Treatment Plant. The Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator I is a journey-level class in the Wastewater Treatment Plant series, which normally works under general supervision, performing a group of related duties according to established procedures.  This position reports to the Utility Systems or Wastewater System Supervisor and does not supervise.

The Position

The Senior Landscape Architect will plan, supervise, and review the work of City Landscape Architect staff. The incumbent will: coordinate and oversee various landscape projects; perform professional landscape architect work in conjunction with the design and preparation of plans, specifications and cost estimates for the development and rehabilitation of parks, landscaped areas and street beautification projects; inspect and review the work of developers and contractors landscaping for conformance with plans and specifications; and give professional advice on landscape matters.

Examples of Duties

• Organize and oversee the landscape design and layout of parks, recreational areas, roadway medians and pedestrian ways.
• Plan, supervise, review, and evaluate the work of professional City and contract staff.
• Train staff in work procedures.
• Provide policy guidance and interpretation to staff.
• Recommend design direction on high-profile urban design of public and private projects that impact landscape design and urban projects within the City.
• Oversee and coordinate the Parks Capital Improvement Plan update for the Department.
• Administer and implement the Tree Preservation Ordinance, including recommending approval or denial of permits for tree removal.
• Recommend modifications to ordinances, policies and procedures and implements after approval.
• Perform professional landscape architectural work including preparing landscape plans, coordinating master plan development, performing park planning and preparing related specifications, contracts, cost estimates.
• Review and approve of landscape proposals for private development, ensuring compliance with codes, policies, regulations, and procedures.
• Prepare reports.
• Recommend approval or denial of various projects for submission to the Planning Commission and/or the City Council.
• Direct the inspection of and/or inspect public and private landscaping work for conformance with plans, specifications, and ordinances.
• Administer the tree planting program, including maintenance of the street tree master plan, botanical designation, inspection of plantings, issuance of permits for planting, removal, and pruning.
• Serve as technical adviser to City staff and officials on park, street tree and landscape matters.
• Act as the City's representative in dealing with public and private agencies, groups and individuals concerned with parks and open space.
• Conduct park location studies to evaluate park site feasibility and proposed development.
• Respond to public requests and complaints regarding landscape development and tree preservation.
• Coordinate the work of the unit with that of other departments and divisions.
• Maintain accurate records and files.
• Prepare clear and effective reports, correspondence, policies, procedures, ordinances and other written materials. Prepare plans for planting, irrigation, site plans, grading, and layout for parks and median projects.
• Other related duties as assigned.

The Police Department is recruiting for Veterinary Technician (Part-time/Benefited).

The Position

The Veterinary Technician will assist in the care of animal patients at the City’s animal shelter. Additional key responsibilities include use of medical care equipment, as well as moving and handling domestic animals and wildlife. The Veterinary Technician reports to the Animal Services Manager and assists the veterinarian, animal services officers and administrative team and is responsible for quality humane treatment of all animals in the care of the Tri-City Animal Shelter. This is an excellent leadership opportunity to provide high quality care for animal patients. The part-time Veterinary Technician will be working 20 hours per week.

The Ideal Candidate

The Fremont Police Department Animal Services is seeking a motivated candidate with experience working in a veterinary or shelter environment providing humane animal handling and restraint techniques of healthy, ill and fractious animals. The ideal candidate will possess strong computer skills, initiate and complete tasks, and work autonomously. In addition, the incumbent will have demonstrated history of excellent customer service and an understanding of infectious disease in a shelter setting and within a community.

THE POSITION:

The City of San Rafael Public Works Department is seeking a full-time Parks Maintenance Worker I/II.  Under general supervision, this position performs a variety of tasks involving the maintenance, repair, improvement and cleaning of parks, park buildings, recreational facilities, and related areas. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (including but not limited to):

• Mows and edges lawns, ball fields, and other turf using edgers and walk behinds and riding reel, rotary, and flail mowers.
• Prunes, trims, shapes and manicures shrubs, hedges, and small trees.
• Irrigates using manual and automatic irrigation devices.
• Rakes, sweeps, and uses power blower or vacuum to clear leaves and debris.
• Weeds beds, prepares soil, and plants trees, shrubs and plants.
• Repairs vandalism to park facility plumbing, walls and paint.
• Cleans park rest rooms, walkways, patios, and related areas.
• Picks up litter and trash in parks, on and along street islands, and in other areas.
• Maintains ball fields including dirt areas, striping, and turf.
• Adjusts and performs routine maintenance of equipment.
• Installs, adjusts, and repairs sprinkler systems and related plumbing including valves, heads, time clocks, and PVC, galvanized and copper pipes.
• Maintains swimming pools including measuring chemical conditions.
• Operates trenchers, dump trucks, backhoes and loaders, and other tractor attachments to excavate, load, move grade or smooth dirt, materials, and trees; operates street sweeper to clean large paved areas.
• Prepares forms, mixes, pours and finishes concrete.
• Participates in emergency Public Works repairs and maintenance including work in other sections of the department.
• Works emergencies and special events.
• May mix chemicals and operate equipment to apply fertilizers and pesticide.
• Operates vehicles with trailers.
• Performs related duties as assigned.

Parks Maintenance Worker I:

• Use and maintenance of basic hand and power tools common to the field.

Parks Maintenance Worker II: (In addition to the requirements of Parks Maintenance Worker I)

• Use and maintenance of basic hand and power tools common to the field.
• Plants, trees, and landscaping materials.
• Methods, materials, tools and equipment used in groundskeeping.
• Installation and maintenance of landscape irrigation systems and basic plumbing.
• Swimming pool operation and maintenance.
• Methods, materials, tools and equipment used in basic carpentry and concrete work.
• Operation and operator maintenance of a variety of power tools and equipment.
• Safe working practices including traffic barriers and protective clothing and devices.

Parks Maintenance Worker I:

• Operate a vehicle with trailer.
• Use basic hand and power tools common to groundskeeping.
• Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
• Operate a variety of power tools and equipment.

Parks Maintenance Worker II: (In addition to the requirements of Parks Maintenance Worker I)

• Operate hand and power mowers, edgers, saws, pruners, tractors, tractor attachments such as back hoes and loaders, sprayers, trucks, blowers, etc.
• Prune, plant, and irrigate turf, landscape and trees.
• Install, repair, and adjust landscape sprinkler systems.
• Identify plant disease, nutrient, watering and related problems.
• Perform basic carpentry and concrete work required for vandalism repair and park improvements.
• Maintain sanitary and safe swimming pool conditions including sampling and adding chemicals, and maintaining gas chlorine systems.
• Mix and apply pesticides and fertilizers.
• Ability to perform or learn to perform traffic control setups necessary to complete daily assignments.
• Ability to operate or learn to operate a computer and work-related software.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Able to read, speak and write English
• Incumbents assigned to this job classification are subject to Department of Transportation’s Drug and Alcohol Regulations if they possess a Class B driver’s license and opt to utilize the license on the job.

Parks Maintenance Worker I:

• Previous work experience involving groundskeeping, horticulture, and irrigation is preferred.

Parks Maintenance Worker II:

• Three years of work experience involving groundskeeping

The Lifeguard/Swim Instructor position may be assigned to the following areas:

Lifeguard

Under general supervision, the Lifeguard performs lifeguard duties in enforcing City public swimming pool rules and monitoring pool patron conduct; perform emergency rescue and lifesaving techniques.

Swim Instructor

Under general supervision, the Swim Instructor performs swim instructor duties in planning, coordinating and teaching swimming and water safety courses, enforcing City public swimming pool rules and monitoring pool patron conduct.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Lifeguard

• Enforce swimming pool rules and regulations, including ensuring orderly conduct by pool patrons.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Typical duties include but are not limited to:
•    Perform required labor involved in construction and maintenance projects as part of a crew, including pavement cutting, ditch digging, manhole and line cleaning, main and pipe repair, laying and backfilling.
•    Perform routine cleaning, inspection and preventive maintenance of equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor.
•    Performs all duties in conformance with appropriate safety and security standards.
•    Maintains Corporation Yard and other Town facilities.
•    Responds to residents' requests for service.
•    Maintains a variety of records relating to maintenance activity.
•    Assists in determining the locations of water, storm drain and sewer lines from the appropriate sources prior to excavation.
•    Drives trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling, and unloading of equipment and supplies.
