The Crossing Guard position is a temporary position, approximately five hours per day, two (2) hours in the morning and three (2) hours in the afternoon, Monday through Friday.  Crossing Guards work a school year (September through June).  Applicants must be able to work outdoors, have reliable transportation or ability to report to assignment consistently.

The City of San José is recruiting for an IT Support Manager in the Information Technology Department. As a technical manager, this position will be responsible for overseeing infrastructure service and day-to-day operations for the City’s Emergency Operation Center (EOC).

The IT Support Manager supports the essential technologies needed to operate the City’s EOC in disasters, including the core network infrastructure, computing servers, storage, enterprise applications, collaboration tools, Mobile Device Management, Motorola Computer Dispatch workstations, and video and audio systems. The EOC technologies include a multi-layer redundant/backup network connectivity with a localized data center, servers, and storage. This allows the EOC’s technology services available during large-scale emergency events.

This position requires strong technical hands-on experience and leadership skills as well as the ability to take initiative and direct others. We are seeking an individual with a willingness to adapt to an ever-changing business as well as an ever-changing technical environment.  

The ideal candidate must be able to take full ownership of managing the IT infrastructure, business collaboration tools, and City applications to support the EOC and lead projects to completion. Infrastructure operations include identity management, private and public cloud infrastructure, server virtualization, system management and monitoring, client and server Windows Operating Systems and client applications, etc. Business collaboration tools include Microsoft Office 365 Productivity Suite, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, related Office 365 Suite offerings, and Zoom. The IT Support Manager is a member of the IT Department with a mission to support the EOC. The work plan defines the business requirements with priorities set by the Office of Emergency Management. As a member of the EOC response team, the IT Support Manager will need to be available onsite to support the emergency event. Work hours during an emergency event could be after City’s business hours or on the weekend.

Duties may include but are not limited to:

• Providing technical leadership for the City’s enterprise infrastructure which includes: network, servers, hyperconverged infrastructure, desktops and mobile devices, Active Directory, VPN, Federation Service, Public/Private Cloud support, enterprise storage, system management and monitor, enterprise system backups and restore, as well as Disaster Recovery of EOC IT services. 
• Performing hands-on system configuration and advanced troubleshooting infrastructure issues to ensure service availability to meet service level expectations.

• Developing technical guidelines and governance framework to ensure best practices and security.

Role description

Under general supervision, assists in analyzing, planning, implementing, maintaining, troubleshooting and enhancing large complex systems or networks consisting of a combination that may include mainframes, mini-computers, personal computers, mobile devices, LANS, WANs, servers, data storage and the physical and logical components that integrate these systems together as an enterprise networking backbone. 

The 1042 Security Engineer is the journey level position in the Engineer series. The class is distinguished from the Senior level by the complexity of the tasks, projects or duties assigned, and is more independent than the Assistant level. This classification performs a wide range of complex analytical, design, planning, implementation, enhancement and problem resolution tasks on large complex systems and networks. Works within a framework of established procedures and interprets policies, procedures and guidelines. This level may formulate recommendations consistent with directives, policies, standards and regulations. Incumbents require only occasional instruction or assistance. Work is reviewed upon completion and for overall results. Serves as a technical architect and systems integrator for large complex systems or networks, with a focus on securing vulnerabilities and reducing risk of system and/or asset compromises.

Essential Duties:
 

1. Determine requirements for the development environment and / or enhancement for large complex systems that serve HSA’s programs. May research and conduct feasibility studies on new technologies.
2. Design, plan, integrate, test, implement, document and enhance large complex systems. This may involve the analysis, coding (.NET C#, Cold Fusion), web application design, database design, and evaluation of systems software, hardware and communications strategies.
3. Perform systems integration for interoperability over dissimilar platforms and technologies. This may involve the integration of various protocols and systems software.
4. Determine the proper installation parameters for software for smooth integration and efficiency in relation to the enterprise system and network.
5. Write code to customize large systems software which may involve specialized programming languages.
6. Read and understand requirements documentation and other documentation in order to write code to implement the required features for application systems.
7. Analyze, detect, identify and correct complex systems software or hardware deficiencies. Analyze, research and debug program logic and systems; modify program logic; analyze service requests for system changes or new requirements to determine the most effective approach and the appropriate staff time required to achieve the needed modification.
8. Provide emergency technical support for application issues to ensure system availability and data integrity. May provide on-call support to ensure rapid recovery from software or hardware problems for mission-critical systems and networks.
9. Act as the liaison between vendors, technical support hot-lines and departments to resolve complex systems. Coordinate and implement corrective measures; this may involve site visits, telephone assistance, remote systems and participation in technical committees.
10. Facilitate the demonstration and training of staff in the use of new hardware or software products.
11. Document procedures and troubleshooting techniques related to systems software and hardware; develop technical documentation and review documentation prior to general distribution.
12. Plan, develop and implement backup and recovery procedures for large systems.
13. Communicate with managers regarding system performance and operational issues. Suggest improvements to management.
14. Research and test new software technologies; report results; recommend software purchases. Learn and implement the new technologies that are brought in. Coordinate and work with vendors when needed.

CASUAL RECREATION SPECIALIST/LEAD

5 - 25 HOURS/WEEK (Flexible)          

Note: Casual non-benefited employees are limited to working no more than twenty-five (25) hours per week and no more than 900 hours in a fiscal year (July 1-June 30).   

Recreation Services Division has multiple program lead staff openings across many recreation programs and activities. We serve youth, adults and older adults and have opportunities for flexible working hours (i.e., morning, after school, evenings, lunch time, weekends, etc.). Individuals may choose to work one assignment or multiple assignments and flexible work hours are possible to accommodate school schedules and/or other commitments.

• Organize and lead activities such as arts & crafts, sports & games, health & fitness
• Supervise participants, volunteers and program support staff during programs/activities
• Take attendance and administer/organize other paperwork and forms as needed
• Issue, maintain and store equipment and supplies
• Suggest and develop activities as appropriate to enhance program/activity

ABOUT POSITION:

This position is a part-time, non-benefited position. Work hours may vary, and schedules can be up to 29 hours per week as needed. There are no guaranteed minimum number of hours per week. Hours of operation of the Seal Beach Tennis & Pickleball Center are typically Monday through Friday, 7:00 am - 9:30 pm and Saturday/Sunday from 6:30 am - 5:30 pm.   

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Individual will work primarily at the City’s Seal Beach Tennis & Pickleball Center performing duties including, but not limited to, greeting and supervising patrons, handling of payments inside the Pro Shop, enforcing rules and regulations of the facility, opening/closing the facility, removing trash, restocking supplies, and general court maintenance, including court washing, locker room cleaning, and overall security of the facility.

This position will also work periodically as staff for facility rentals at the City’s community centers for various functions such as wedding receptions, baby showers, and birthday parties. This position may also help assist with scorekeeping for Adult Sports programs, including basketball and softball.

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:

Ability to: Communicate effectively (both written and verbally); make good decisions; push, pull, drag, lift or carry equipment/supplies up to 50 lbs., lean, stoop, twist, bend and kneel in performance of job duties. 

Experience & Training: One year experience working for Parks and Recreation Departments or similar experience and general knowledge of tennis and sports is desired.

The Information Technology Department is seeking a Usability and Accessibility Senior Analyst to be part of the City’s two-year program to expand San José 311 feature development, customer experience, and geographic equity. The Senior Analyst will lead and perform usability and accessibility work on digital service delivery analysis and/or improvement.
