Overview:
The Senior Environmental, Health, and Safety Specialist’s primary role is to implement, administer, and maintain Valley Waters Workers’ Compensation program, including but not limited to third-party administration, OSH medical services, OSH insurance, modified work, and case management. This position will serve as the Program Lead for assigned EH&S programs, including Employee Training, Designated Employee Representative (DER) for Commercial Driver, Infection Control, Hearing Conservation, and Respiratory Protection. This position will support the Lockout-Tagout program by managing the lock and tag inventory and equipment needs; and the Facility Safety Audit program by performing audits.
 
Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Manage the process of employee injuries, from initial reporting to coordinating medical treatment and facilitating return-to-work programs.
• Collaborate with departmental managers and stakeholders to identify safety hazards and develop strategies to mitigate risks.
• Conduct regular inspections and audits of workplace environments to ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations.
• Investigate workplace incidents, accidents, or near-misses, and develop recommendations for preventive measures.
• Provide guidance and support to employees and management on environmental, health, and safety matters, promoting a culture of safety awareness and compliance.

Ideal Training and Education:
Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in industrial safety, construction technology, environmental sciences, engineering, physics, chemistry, or a related field.

The Housing Department

The City of San Jose's Housing Department's mission is to strengthen and to revitalize the community through housing and neighborhood investments. PAL (Police Activities League) Program Attendants work in the formal Suisun City classification of Recreation Specialist I. Starting hourly rate will depend on qualifications. This position works on average 19 hours per week.

The City of San José, Office of the City Attorney is seeking an entry-level attorney in the Transactional division. The San Rafael Public Library is accepting applications for Substitute Librarians and Substitute Library Assistants to work in our San Rafael Public Libraries, including Downtown (1100 E Street), Pickleweed (50 Canal Street), and Northgate (5800 Northgate Drive, Ste. 083).  We are looking for people who are available on call, weekends, or other limited shifts.  This is a great opportunity for those interested in working at both a downtown and neighborhood branch libraries, as well as those excited by providing library services to a diverse community.  These are temporary positions, limited to 1,000 hours worked within a fiscal year (July 1 thru June 30) and receive no City benefits.

Substitute Librarians perform professional-level library public service work, including answering reference questions, providing readers’ advisory, providing technical assistance, and presenting programs (as needed).

Substitute Library Assistants perform circulation tasks such as checking materials in and out, and work at the public service desk, assisting patrons with basic requests including answering simple questions, creating new patron accounts, and referring patrons to other staff for more complex questions. 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Substitute Librarians:

• Knowledge of Library Services and reference materials; readers advisory; professional practices and techniques of library science; and on-line library systems and information resources.
• Masters in library science issued by a college or university accredited by the American Library Association is preferred.

About the Highway Program Deputy Director

The Highway Program Deputy Director, reporting to the Chief of Engineering and Program Delivery, manages a diverse and talented team of seasoned staff who is well-versed on the delivery of capital projects related to the State highway system and other roadways in the county. This position is responsible for directing and leading collaboration on planning, design development (including technical analysis in support of preliminary engineering and final design), project-related right-of-way activities (in coordination with VTA Real Estate), construction management and close out, overall program/project management (including scopes, costs, schedules and quality of work), management of staff resources (both VTA and consultant), coordination with project stakeholders within VTA and beyond (e.g., local agencies, Caltrans, federal agencies, resources agencies, utilities, etc.), and community and other outreach (working with VTA public information and government affairs staff).

Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor, the Recreation Coordinator II – Aquatics Safety manages the City’s Aquatics lifeguards and scheduling, including lap swim, water-walking, lifeguard certification, community CPR/First Aid classes and JR Lifeguard program.  This position also supervises all lifeguards, senior lifeguards and provides key assistance to the Recreation Supervisor on all related matters (works closely with Recreation Coordinator I- Aquatics programs to support division goals and activities).
