JOB DESCRIPTION: The Park Ranger Assistant provides information and assistance to the public and enforces laws, rules and regulations (including sections of the Fremont Municipal Code) pertaining to park and recreation facilities.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES (This is a general description of duties and is not all-inclusive)

• Responsible for patrol and general supervision of Central Park and its recreation facilities and picnic areas
• Give information and provide assistance to the public acting as a City of Fremont liaison
• As a Public Officer, may enforce the Fremont Municipal Code within the park system including issuing citations
• Knowledgeable of the rules, regulations and ordinances of the City of Fremont park operations
• Maintain continual radio communication with other staff
• Provide traffic and parking control as needed
• Provide emergency animal services
• Conduct historical and natural history interpretive programs for children and adults
• Responsible for patrol/supervision of other facilities/ parks throughout Fremont as needed
• Perform minor maintenance work on equipment and facilities

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be at least 18 years old; Over 21 preferred
• Must possess and retain a valid class C California Driver's License
• Willingness to comply with suspected child abuse reporting (11166.5 PC)
• Employees are required to be certified in Adult/Child CPR & First Aid from American Red Cross, American Heart Association or supervisor approved equivalent. Employees must be certified within 30 days of hire date or prior to the first day of work, whichever occurs earlier.
• Fingerprinting and negative TB test results are required

SELECTION PROCESS

Qualified application will be evaluated on the basis of related experience and quality of presentation.

The Greater Vallejo Recreation District invites applications for:

The Greater Vallejo Recreation District is a Special Service District that has been serving area residents for over sixty years. As a Special Service District, GVRD operates as a separate government agency from the City of Vallejo. GVRD manages 407 acres of public park space including 20 neighborhood parks, 10 community parks, 6 special purpose parks, and Olympic-size swimming pool and 4 community centers.  GVRD maintains over 1,000 acres of public land. 

GVRD is governed by a five-member Board of Directors. With 30 plus full time and approximately 155 part-time and seasonal employees, GVRD operates on a 2019-2020 fiscal year budget of $7.9 million for general fund operations and Measure K funding amounting to $2.2 million.  The Measure K funding is being utilized to purchase necessary equipment, improve parks, facilities.

DEFINITION
Under supervision of the Recreation Supervisor, this position manages Recreation staff, programmatic leadership, assigned area budget, and cross departmental collaboration. Top candidates will assist full-time and part-time staff with all Recreation related needs, community outreach, and perform a variety of technical tasks as directed.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED EXERCISED

• Receive immediate supervision from higher level Recreation staff. Work requires supervising and monitoring performance for a regular group of employees (1 or more full and part-time employees) including providing input on hiring/disciplinary actions and work objectives/ effectiveness, performance evaluations, and realigning work as needed. 

ESSENTIAL AND MARGINAL FUNCTION STATEMENTS- Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Essential Functions:

• Supervises the work of assigned personnel, including assigning and reviewing work, providing guidance, and conducting performance evaluations.
• Plans, organizes, schedules, promotes, evaluates, and leads recreational activities in area of assignment.
• Reviews applications and enters reservations in recreation software. Schedules meetings with customers/general public, processes permits and payments, assists with event layouts, and enforces rules and regulations.
• Ensures the safety of equipment, building, and surrounding areas through inspections and takes action to resolve any issues.
• Monitors budget revenues and expenditures. Completes monthly cash flow report and annual end of year report. Proposes new fiscal year budget and justifications.
• Responsible for preparation of programmatic annual budget and justifications.
• Respond to questions, complaints, and emergency situations. Takes appropriate courses of action and notifies supervisor whenever necessary.
• Prepare a variety of administrative and financial reports on activities and operations. Orders supplies, as needed.  Maintains records and invoices.
• Develops a strategic action plan for area of responsibility incorporated as part of the development and implementation of Division and District goals and objectives.
• Completes activity guide list and proposes new programs for the organization. Markets and advertises for new programs.
• Collects fees for classes and/or programs. Issues receipts, balances and reconciles accounts, and  submits to Finance Department.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

The Senior Educational Facilities Planner (Sr. Planner) provides professional planning services that guide the physical development of the campus and assists in strategic development and improvement of buildings and space to support UCSC's mission of research, teaching, and public service. As a senior member of the unit, the Sr. Planner is the resident expert on campus and UC policy regarding capital matters, and provides assistance and support in all areas of planning for CPSM staff, campus leadership. They also act as liaison to the Office of Capital Planning at the UC Office of the President.

The Sr. Planner uses skills as a seasoned, experienced planning professional with a full understanding of industry practices and procedures to resolve a wide range of planning issues; uses advanced planning concepts and objectives to resolve highly complex issues; develops short and long range capital plans, demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for analyzing alternatives and recommending solutions; exhibits high levels of organization; recommends revisions to proceedures and policies to improve efficiency, and is able to operate with considerable independence.

The Sr. Planner provides high-level reports and analysis of campus space needs in an effort to ensure the efficient use of campus space; works with campus leadership and clients to provide in-depth programming, utilization and visioning studies for all types of campus space using a variety of planning tools: metrics, conceptual space plans, and test fit diagrams; coordinates with campus technical experts on the re-use of space; generates and manipulates large data sets, manages databases to comprehensively manage campus capital expenditures, leads and coordinates the annual updates to the multi-year Capital and Seismic Financial Plans, and generates analytics for capital planning, space management and capital outlay.

In addition, the Sr. Planner is responsible for generating or reviewing the technical and budget approval documents created by other planners to ensure that they are accurate and complete; has advanced proficiency in Google and Microsoft Office Suites, and working knowledge of AutoCAD and other communication and presentation software.

Capital Planning and Space Management (CPSM) is a unit within the Division of Business Administration (BAS.) The Division includes a broad and diverse set of operational units that provides and maintains administrative, student development and physical infrastructure that supports the mission of the campus. As a member of BAS, CPSM supports the Office of the Chancellor and Campus Provost/Executive Vice Chancellor in the areas of capital financial planning and policy analysis. In this capacity, CPSM develops and maintains relevant databases, provides analyses of policies and programs, assists in the determination of campus priorities, and in the development of strategies designed to achieve these priorities. Job Duties

Required Qualifications

     The actual salary shall be determined by the final candidate’s qualifications and experience.  In addition to the starting salary, employees in the Park Ranger classification shall also receive an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation pay. 

     The Parks, Recreation & Neighborhood Services Department is looking for highly motivated, personable individuals with strong leadership skills and innovative ideas to become part of a dynamic team of employees with a strong commitment to providing excellent service to our diverse community. THE POSITION: Under close supervision, perform unskilled manual and semi-skilled manual park maintenance work, and perform related work as required.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

• Cleaning restrooms, emptying garbage cans
• Removing weeds and trash from parks
• Assist in mowing, edging, pruning, fertilizing, and seeding
• Perform a wide variety of general grounds and facility maintenance work including raking leaves, cleaning walkways, removing debris, cleaning restrooms, and related work.
• Water, weed, prune, renovate, and landscaped areas.
• Turf care including mowing, thatching, fertilizing, plugging, and installation of new turf areas.
• Prepare soil and plant flowerbeds, shrubs, and landscape areas, including staking, fertilizing and other necessary procedures.
• Utilize a wide variety of hand and power tools and landscape maintenance equipment.
• Move and install park and recreation equipment.
• Assist in loading, transporting, and unloading equipment, materials, debris, and other heavy objects related to maintenance.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: The incumbent should have the ability to read, write, and carry out oral and written directions, maintain cooperative work relationships, and operate various park maintenance equipment. Individuals must possess a valid California Driver’s License and a good driving record (recent DMV printout required). This is seasonal work which will include weekends and holidays depending on the needs of the department.

• Assists in the development, coordination, planning, implementing and supervising the day-to-day activities, themes and special events for an ongoing preschool program.

• Supervise and engage preschool students during preschool hours.
