SPECIAL PAY INCENTIVES:

• Paramedic Pay: 5% Incentive Pay. Plus, the EMT/Paramedic Pay Pilot Program that runs through 6/30/2025 provides Paramedics with an additional 5% incentive pay.

The Department

The Suisun City Fire Department was established in 1861. The men and women of SCFD take great pride in the customer service that they provide to all who live, work and travel through Suisun City. SCFD is a mission-driven fire agency that remains focused on customers and safety. It is our goal that all members strive to attain a synergistic balance of education, training, and experience to provide excellent emergency management on every call. SCFD is a combination agency staffed with both full-time and volunteer fire personnel. We currently operate two Type 1 Fire Engines, one Type 3 Fire Engine, Ladder Truck, three Command Vehicles, one Type 5 Fire Engine, Zodiac Rescue Boats, and one USAR Trailer.  The Suisun City Fire Department is an ALS (Paramedic) level department, supported by Medic Ambulance for transport services. Station 47 is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The Position

The ideal candidate will have well-developed technical skills in the operation and maintenance of fire equipment and apparatus, and be self-motivated, team-oriented, embrace diversity and exercise sound judgment. Work requires a good understanding of first aid techniques and lifesaving methods. The nature of the work requires that the incumbent establish and maintain positive, cooperative working relationships within their own department, other Suisun City personnel, and the general public on an ongoing basis.

Essential Job Functions

The following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.

• Operates, drives, and maintains pumps and all apparatus to effectively suppress fires.
• Assists with the overhaul, salvage, and cleanup operations at any incident.
• Delivers basic life support (BLS)/advanced life support (ALS) as a Paramedic.

• Performs related duties as assigned.

The Urban Forestry Division of the City of Fremont has two paid internships available for immediate hiring.  Through a variety of tasks and duties, interns will gain well-rounded, first-hand work experience and observational knowledge in the fields of urban forestry management and municipal administration.

The Role

The role consists of assisting city staff in the preservation, maintenance, and sustainable growth of Fremont’s urban forest. Examples of division responsibilities include program administration, tree assessment, community outreach and education, grant management, data collection and analysis, contracts and vendor management, project management, as well as other related responsibilities.

Examples of duties that may be assigned to interns include processing data through the city’s GIS- based tree data management system, reviewing and processing permit applications, developing and supervising tree planting initiatives, conducting public outreach and education, providing technical expertise, completing field work and assessments, Urban Forestry Management Plan implementation, and other duties as assigned.

Position Details:

Under general supervision, this position is assigned to perform a variety of duties to support the users of various indoor and outdoor City facilities and programs. The Recreation Specialist will oversee programs and rental activities. This includes opening and closing buildings, managing swimming pool patrons and activities, monitoring facility use including facility and guest safety during rentals, setting up tables and chairs for rentals, City programs and events, performing light janitorial and custodial duties, ensuring compliance of established rules and procedures for the use of facilities, and performing other duties as required. Within this classification, specific positions will include: Senior Facility Attendant, Pool Manager (Lifeguard certification required) and Manager on Duty (MOD) for the facility.

Examples of Duties for these positions may include:

• Overseeing operation of swimming pools or “dry” activities and rentals

Recreation Specialist-Pool Manager Duties and qualifications:

• Manages and supervises assigned operations to achieve goals within available resources
• Provides leadership and direction in the development of short and long term plans
• Supervises classes and co-sponsored programs
• Actively scan the pool, deck and locker rooms for safety and potential hazards and address the situation properly to remedy it
• Recognize and respond to emergencies in accordance with the facility emergency action plan
• Know and enforce all facility rules, policies, and procedures while providing a safe and enjoyable environment for all patrons
• Perform daily inspections or equipment and facility; correct and/or report any and all unsafe conditions to supervisor
• Teach swim lessons and aquatic classes to a variety of skill and age levels; evaluate participants according to program outlines and goals
• Lifeguard Instructor certification required
• Must test negative for Tuberculosis within the past 2 years
•  Must be patient and courteous with all members of the public
• Be dependable and punctual
• Ability to sit, stand and walk for long periods of time
• Ability to withstand exposure to the elements outdoors and in enclosed spaces
• Perform other duties as assigned

Working Conditions:

Work is assigned at both indoor and outdoor facilities, and may include exposure to unsanitary conditions, odors, cleaning chemicals, and some noise. The successful candidate must be able to work variable hours, including mornings, late evenings, holidays, and weekends.

Supplemental Position Information:

Part-time temporary employees serve in an at-will capacity and understand that service with the City may be dismissed at any time. This position does not provide any benefits, apart from paid sick leave. In accordance with the Healthy Workplaces, Healthy Families Act of 2014, all temporary, part-time, and seasonal employees, who on or after July 1, 2015, work in California for 30 or more days within a year from the commencement of employment are entitled to paid sick leave for prescribed purposes.  Employees will accrue one hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked and are entitled to use accrued sick days beginning on the 90th day of employment. This position performs a wide variety of responsible bookkeeping and clerical duties under general supervision and within a framework of established procedures. Perform a large amount of the daily bookkeeping and administrative work associated with accounts payable, accounts receivable, the general ledger, cash & investments, internal credit card claim processing, and support services administration.  Assist in the preparation of participant and third-party power billings, and fuel-steam and other allocations. Monitor the collection of accounts receivable.

Accounting Clerk I:
Perform full cycle accounts payable processing to include: creation and maintenance of vendor files; verification of invoices, including quantities, dollar amounts, and payment and discount terms; matching and cross-referencing invoices to receiving documents, requisitions, purchase orders, contracts, and shipping documents, reconciling with vendor statements, and ensuring timely payment to vendors.

Track, monitor, and process electronic purchase order files, including invoices,  payments, open purchase orders, work orders, partial payments, and other information as required to expedite and document accounts payable transactions. Resolve exceptions through contact and coordination with appropriate vendor and Agency purchasing officials.

Assist in t in the maintenance of subsidiary accounts payable ledgers, fixed asset records, accounts receivable, work order and related systems and reconcile to the general ledger.  

Assist with reconciling cash accounts and documents to Agency records. Responsible for the distribution of recurring reports

Review and process employee advances, expense reports, and credit card transactions in accordance with Agency policy and procedures.

Provide administrative support for NCPA’s Support and Shared Services Programs, including review and verification of insurance terms, confirming insurance is up-to-date, and entering into appropriate tracking tool.  

Process, review and route invoices to Member(s) for approval for payment; submission of invoices to accounting for payment. Upload various documents into electronic database program SharePoint.

Communicate effectively with internal and external partners and respond to inquiries in a timely manner and provide internal and external support services-related assistance to various cross functional partners. 

Compose, format, edit, and type routine correspondence, prepare Commission Staff reports and monthly Support Services report as assigned. Prepare annual report for the General Manager and Chief Executive Officer and other required reports as assigned. 

May include coordination with the Southern California Public Power Authority (SCPPA) for an efficient process for Shared Services to NCPA Members who use SCPPA contracts. Inspect, read, edit, and verify documents and assess data

Accounting Clerk II:
In addition to the duties for the level I class, this level:

Maintaining the Agency's general ledgers and subsidiary ledgers and in preparation of recurring journal entries, audit schedules, account analyses, and special data requests. Assist and instruct new clerical employees as required.  

Maintain subsidiary accounts payable ledgers, fixed asset records, accounts receivable, work order and related systems and reconcile to the general ledger. Maintain the Agency's general ledgers and subsidiary ledgers and in preparation of recurring journal entries, audit schedules, account analyses, and special data requests. Assist and instruct new clerical employees as required.

Provide support to Treasurer. Track cash activity, update wire, and cash schedules daily, including ACH and wire transfer origination, check run initiation, vendor book transfers, upload of positive pay files, and weekly cash requirements forecasting. In addition, input investments, interest, bank sweep activity into investment management software and compile monthly Treasurer’s Report. Track, balance, and report transactions between various funds with high level of accuracy and a high level of attention to detail.  

Maintain and reconcile cash accounts and documents to Agency records. Coordinate and resolve related matters with outside entities, managers, supervisors, and or employees as applicable. Also responsible for the distribution of recurring reports.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience      

Accounting Clerk I:
This level requires a minimum of a high school diploma supplemented with college-level training in business or a related field and a minimum of two years of experience performing similar job responsibilities. An associate of art degree from an accredited college with major coursework in accounting or a related field is preferred.  

Accounting Clerk II:        
This level requires a minimum of a high school diploma supplemented with college-level training in business or a related field and a minimum of four years of experience performing similar job responsibilities with minimal supervision. An associate of art degree from an accredited college with major coursework in accounting or a related field is preferred.  

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES 
Knowledge:
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting practices and principles, including accounts payable and receivable, journal entries and ledgers, cash management practices, account reconciliation, and purchasing; Knowledge of business English and correspondence, Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, and possess strong organizational and time-management skills, and the knowledge of manual and computerized accounting systems and practices. 

Abilities:
Ability to be detail-oriented and work with a high level of accuracy; Listen to, read, and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos and ask for clarification when necessary; Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to clients and other employees of the organization in writing and in person and to speak clearly and persuasively; Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; Compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs and apply mathematical concepts to accounting transactions; and the ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Tiny Tots Instructor will teach assigned classes of pre-school children ranging in ages from 18 months to 5 years old in enrichment, recreational and educational based programming (Tiny Tots Aide will assist).

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES (This is a general description of duties and is not all-inclusive)

• Develop and instruct weekly lesson plans (i.e. art, free play, enrichment, and circle time).
• Supervise preschool age children indoors and outdoors.

• Must have 6 academic units at the junior college level in an Early Childhood Education program and 18 months experience in a recreation or structured child care setting for preschoolers.

Work is at the Aquatics Center at San Bruno Park and is performed both indoors and out, with exposure to heat, sun, water, noise, dust, pollens and chemicals/cleaning agents used in an aquatics complex. There is potential for slip hazards when working near water and exposure to blood borne pathogens when rendering first aid. Working hours will include evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Physical Demands

Position requires the ability sit or stand for long periods of time; climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, walk frequently, lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds; occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 100 pounds; perform simple and power grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation; verbal and hearing skills to effectively communicate with children and other staff; visual acuity is also required for observation.

Typical Qualifications

• Must be at least 15 and have a valid Red Cross certification in Lifeguarding, CPR, AED & First Aid for the Professional Rescuer

• Lifeguard Instructor certification not required, but a plus and will be compensated at a higher base pay.

• Must pass a Livescan background check if over the age of 18

• Must test negative for Tuberculosis within the past 2 years

• Must submit a valid student work permit if still in high school

• Must be patient and courteous with all members of the public

• Be dependable and punctual

• Ability to sit, stand and walk for long periods of time.

• Ability to withstand exposure to the elements outdoors and in enclosed spaces

Supplemental Position Information:

Part-time temporary employees serve in an at-will capacity and understand that service with the City may be dismissed at any time. This position does not provide any benefits, apart from paid sick leave. In accordance with the Healthy Workplaces, Healthy Families Act of 2014, all temporary, part-time, and seasonal employees, who on or after July 1, 2015, work in California for 30 or more days within a year from the commencement of employment are entitled to paid sick leave for prescribed purposes.  Employees will accrue one hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked and are entitled to use accrued sick days beginning on the 90th day of employment. Employees may use up to 24 hours (or 3 days) of accrued sick leave in each year of employment.

THE POSITION:

The City of San Rafael Public Works Department is seeking a full-time Parks Maintenance Worker I/II.  Under general supervision, this position performs a variety of tasks involving the maintenance, repair, improvement and cleaning of parks, park buildings, recreational facilities, and related areas. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (including but not limited to):

• Mows and edges lawns, ball fields, and other turf using edgers and walk behinds and riding reel, rotary, and flail mowers.
• Prunes, trims, shapes and manicures shrubs, hedges, and small trees.
• Irrigates using manual and automatic irrigation devices.
• Rakes, sweeps, and uses power blower or vacuum to clear leaves and debris.
• Weeds beds, prepares soil, and plants trees, shrubs and plants.
• Repairs vandalism to park facility plumbing, walls and paint.
• Cleans park rest rooms, walkways, patios, and related areas.
• Picks up litter and trash in parks, on and along street islands, and in other areas.
• Maintains ball fields including dirt areas, striping, and turf.
• Adjusts and performs routine maintenance of equipment.
• Installs, adjusts, and repairs sprinkler systems and related plumbing including valves, heads, time clocks, and PVC, galvanized and copper pipes.
• Maintains swimming pools including measuring chemical conditions.
• Operates trenchers, dump trucks, backhoes and loaders, and other tractor attachments to excavate, load, move grade or smooth dirt, materials, and trees; operates street sweeper to clean large paved areas.
• Prepares forms, mixes, pours and finishes concrete.
• Participates in emergency Public Works repairs and maintenance including work in other sections of the department.
• Works emergencies and special events.
• May mix chemicals and operate equipment to apply fertilizers and pesticide.
• Operates vehicles with trailers.
• Performs related duties as assigned.

Parks Maintenance Worker I:

• Use and maintenance of basic hand and power tools common to the field.

Parks Maintenance Worker II: (In addition to the requirements of Parks Maintenance Worker I)

• Use and maintenance of basic hand and power tools common to the field.
• Plants, trees, and landscaping materials.
• Methods, materials, tools and equipment used in groundskeeping.
• Installation and maintenance of landscape irrigation systems and basic plumbing.
• Swimming pool operation and maintenance.
• Methods, materials, tools and equipment used in basic carpentry and concrete work.
• Operation and operator maintenance of a variety of power tools and equipment.
• Safe working practices including traffic barriers and protective clothing and devices.

Parks Maintenance Worker I:

• Operate a vehicle with trailer.
• Use basic hand and power tools common to groundskeeping.
• Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
• Operate a variety of power tools and equipment.

Parks Maintenance Worker II: (In addition to the requirements of Parks Maintenance Worker I)

• Operate hand and power mowers, edgers, saws, pruners, tractors, tractor attachments such as back hoes and loaders, sprayers, trucks, blowers, etc.
• Prune, plant, and irrigate turf, landscape and trees.
• Install, repair, and adjust landscape sprinkler systems.
• Identify plant disease, nutrient, watering and related problems.
• Perform basic carpentry and concrete work required for vandalism repair and park improvements.
• Maintain sanitary and safe swimming pool conditions including sampling and adding chemicals, and maintaining gas chlorine systems.
• Mix and apply pesticides and fertilizers.
• Ability to perform or learn to perform traffic control setups necessary to complete daily assignments.
• Ability to operate or learn to operate a computer and work-related software.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Able to read, speak and write English
• Incumbents assigned to this job classification are subject to Department of Transportation’s Drug and Alcohol Regulations if they possess a Class B driver’s license and opt to utilize the license on the job.

Parks Maintenance Worker I:

• Previous work experience involving groundskeeping, horticulture, and irrigation is preferred.

Parks Maintenance Worker II:

• Three years of work experience involving groundskeeping
