The Ideal Candidate

The Police Department is searching for an effective and self-motivated individual who has the ability to perform first line supervisory duties, as well as provide secretarial support to an executive. The Senior Executive Assistant will be well versed in writing, reporting, supply management, scheduling, organization, time management, equipment maintenance and travel logistics. The Newark Recreation and Community Services Department is looking for Senior Lifeguards for our fantastic swim lesson and aquatic programs and the upcoming to work at the year-round Silliman Activity & Family Aquatic Center. We are looking for positive, patient, motivated, self-driven individuals that have a passion for working in aquatics and with children, who wish to make a difference in a child's life by teaching them lifelong water skills! Swimming experience is required. Additional program training will be provided once hired. The City of San Mateo Parks and Recreation Department is looking responsible, enthusiastic,

and energetic individuals to join our Aquatics Section!

Qualifications:

Must be at least 15 years old and have the ability to obtain a work permit, if under the age of 18.  Applicants must have completed and passed the Lifeguard Training class that includes CPR, FPR, and AED by June 1, 2024. WSI (water safety instructor) is highly recommended.

Lifeguard Job Responsibilities:

• The primary responsibility of a lifeguard is to protect lives by using their skills to prevent injury among patrons.  This duty does not only include rescuing drowning victims or administering CPR and first aid.  Being alert and proactive also helps to prevent dangerous situations from ever occurring in the first place.
• Enforcing the rules fairly and consistently is a close second major duty and could even be considered to be a part of patron surveillance.  Help the patrons to keep themselves safe by monitoring and putting an end to dangerous behaviors. 
• Maintenance and cleaning tasks are also part of the lifeguard’s duties.  These can include monitoring chemical levels in the pool, picking up trash and organizing equipment, or inspecting the facility for unsafe conditions.

Swim Instructor Job Responsibilities:

• The swim instructor is responsible for instructing swim lesson participants in a variety of swim levels.
• This position is also responsible for the safety of the participants in their own class.
• Work hours as scheduled which includes beginning and ending class on time; remaining after class to answer participant and/or parent questions as needed and clean up supplies.
• Instructs and evaluates students participating in swim lessons.
• Submits completed report cards, skills sheets, and attendance information on time.

What You’ll Do

• Receive on-the-job training, learn, and perform work in the following police records functions:
• Meet and assist the public at the Police Department reception counter and provide information according to City policy and Government Code requirements.
• Answer non-emergency heavy volume, incoming telephone calls.
• Operate machines and technology including but not limited to a computer, facsimile, copier/scanner/printer, calculator, desk-top computer, and a telecommunication terminal accessing County, State and National law enforcement automated information systems.
• Type, process, scan, and file a wide variety of police reports, warrants, subpoenas, citations, registrant files and court ordered record sealings utilizing various types of technology.
• Verify computer entries, process validations and assist with state and federal audits.
• Maintain logs for state and federal computer entries and updates.
• Retrieve and review daily crime reports for accuracy prior to submission to the District Attorney.
• Operate and organize a Department Records Management System to retrieve information such as searches for names, incidents, reports, and calls for service.
• Disseminate records information to department staff, outside law enforcement agencies, the public and other employees according to established laws and guidelines.
• Keep current on continuous changes and additions in report release requirements.
• Handle citizen complaints at the reception counter and on the telephone.
• Assist in training new and other assigned personnel.
• Perform record checks for authorized agencies in strict accordance with the law.
• Process vehicle release forms and collect fees.
• Process mail and order supplies.
• Purge department and citywide files as required.
• Assist in developing procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

If assigned to the Property Unit, duties may include but not limited to:

• Receive and maintain the chain of custody and integrity of, and safely store evidence, found property, and property held for safekeeping.
• Advise staff on proper packaging and submission procedures.
• Conduct inventories and audits of property and evidence.
• Release property to the public or the legally authorized persons in accordance with disposition forms, court orders, or stipulations.
• Check out items needed for court, investigations, and forensic testing; share evidence needed for investigation or review; transport items to and from laboratory and maintain strict records of chain of custody.
• Testify in court to verify chain of custody records of evidence.
• Make arrangements for auction of unclaimed property.

The Position

The Police Public Service Assistant (PSA) III is assigned to the Police Department’s Crime Lab and provides support to the Forensic Specialists and Crime Scene Investigators during operations in the Crime Lab. The Police Public Service Assistant III position requires excellent customer service and communication skills.

Examples of job duties include:

• Ordering and purchasing supplies.
• Re-supply evidence packaging area and appropriate lab areas.
• Clerical tasks, to include typing, running stats, electronic filing tasks, etc.
• Pick up and return evidence as needed.
• Pick up and deliver equipment and supplies.
• Arrange logistical operations within the lab and evidence packaging area including but not limited to arranging chemical waste and sharps removal, filter replacement, etc.
• Minor maintenance on office or lab equipment as required.
• Assist in assembling print kits for evidence collection.
• Identify and communicate with police, and outside vendors to complete job duties.
• Escorts outside vendors while they conduct business on the police campus.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

The Position

The Public Service Assistant (PSA) II is assigned to the Police Department’s Red-Light Camera Unit. Under direct supervision of the Traffic Enforcement Project Specialist, the Public Service Assistant II will perform administrative tasks in support of the Police Department’s Red-Light Camera Unit. This position is a temporary/part-time appointment and may work up to 20 hours a week.

Examples of job duties include:

• Order and prepare court packets of red-light violation from Red Flex for review by court commissioner and defendants.
• Research and understand several sections of the vehicle, government and evidence code as it pertains to red light violations.
• Prepare trial by written declaration packets.
• Research and print out DMV information, including photos and convictions for case files.
• Assist with conducting enforcement sign and equipment verifications.
• Assist with verifying yellow light timing with city Traffic Engineers.
• Assist with review and maintenance of court evidence binders.
• Uploading case file evidence.
• Research statistical studies and assist in report preparation.
• Order office supplies and maintain a functional and organized workspace.
• Retrieve, sort and distribute incoming mail.
• Answer phone and return phone and email messages.

THE POSITION:

The City of San Rafael Police Department is recruiting for a full-time, Police Call Taker & Records Specialist.  This position routinely takes all non-emergency calls for service both over the telephone and in person at the police department counter; provides information and assistance to the public both over the telephone and in person; processes, maintains, and disseminates all police reports and a wide variety of confidential police reports and a wide variety of confidential police department records.  This position is a journey level specialized police civilian classification and performs all duties required to effectively dispatch police services.

This position performs the following essential job duties:  (including but not limited to the following):

• Answers and evaluates all non-emergency calls for service and responds to each individual call with appropriate action and may be required to take some emergency calls for service.
• Enters information into the CAD system about calls for service including type, location, nature and description of the event; researches, interprets, and applies the appropriate law, code, or statute to all police records related issues.
• Evaluates and handles all in-person requests for service at the front counter of the police department and responds to each request with appropriate action, including advice, information, referrals, assistance with counter reports, and taking of supplemental reports.
• Provides callers and walk-in customers with assistance, information, or referral on situations that they determine not to be police-related; serves as a conduit of information from the police department to other public safety agencies and service providers.
• Operates a complex computerized records management system; processes and maintains a wide variety of police reports, documents, and records in both electronic and paper format; enters and retrieves information from other law enforcement data bases and resources.
• Maintains and ensures the integrity and security of all confidential police records and reports; provides for the appropriate release of information in accordance with all state laws governing confidentiality and the release of police records; researches, purges and seals records.
• Prepares mandated statistical and other reports for the State Department of Justice; prepares, codes, categorizes, tabulates, enters, and audits a variety of data, forms, and reports.
• Prepares both standardized and specialized letters, records, and reports; prepares releases for impounded and stored vehicles and criminal record clearances.  Collects fees, posts and balances monies.
• Orders and maintains office supplies; delivers reports to other agencies; may be asked to perform matron duties.
• Performs related duties as required.
