The Belmont Parks and Recreation Department is recruiting for part-time Building Attendants. Building Attendants provide operational supervision of facilities during the absence of full-time staff.

Building Attendant I - This is the entry level class in the Building Attendant series.  Incumbents in this class work under close supervision.  As experience is gained, incumbents may be granted more independence of action under established guidelines.

Building Attendant II - This is the journey level class in the Building Attendant series. Incumbents are expected to work independently in the absence of close supervision.

About this role
We are seeking responsible, reliable and enthusiastic individuals to manage and oversee for Adult Sports Leagues. This position will be responsible for staffing and managing all Adult Sport games on a field or in a gym, including scorekeepers and communication with the sport official’s association, and managing the adult sports scheduling and score reporting online. This is a part time, nonbenefited position, up to 30 hours per week and limited to 960 hours in a fiscal year (July-June). You must be available to work Monday-Friday during the hours of 4:30pm-10:15pm and occasional weekends. This position is year-round.

What You’ll Do

• Greet, acknowledge, and interactive with patrons and sports officials in a friendly and professional manner
• Ensures all game related information are uploaded to website in a timely manner for each game
• Keeps games moving, maintains game rules and manages game conflicts
• Ensures use of sport program supplies follows the amount prearranged by the department budget
• Oversees and managers Adult Sport League games and is present before and after designated scheduled game times
• Assists in tracking payroll for all per diem workers
• If necessary, will cover shifts for scorekeeping or gym attendant when no subs are available
• Back up to the field preparation position
• Manage the gym schedule, staffing and be a back up to rental officers, if necessary
• Takes game photos of all Sport League games
• Provide excellent customer service.

DEFINITION: Under general supervision, the Field Monitor provides operational support and supervision of Mill Valley parks, outdoor fields, offsite facilities, and occasionally the Mill Valley Community Center. Responsibilities will include but will not be limited to patrol and observation of outdoor facilities, ensuring compliance with facility regulations and use guidelines, general customer service, light office tasks, and the performance of other related work as required. This is a part-time, year-round position.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

• Monitor user activities in department facilities and enforce all rules, regulations, and safety principles.
• Patrol field, park and offsite facilities to monitor rental schedules and permitted use.
• Act as a liaison to the outdoor recreational community for the Recreation Department.
• Provide quality customer service and information for all Department facilities, classes, programs, and events.
• Maintain appearance and overall environment of facilities by completing daily tasks and cleaning as needed.
• Occasionally assist with the coordination and execution of Department-sponsored outdoor events or classes.

About this role

Scorekeepers will be responsible for putting out and picking up the bases at the beginning and end of night, turning on and off the field lights, keeping score for each game played and keeping the official game time and other duties as assigned. This is a part time, non-benefited position, up to 30 hours per week and limited to 960 hours in a fiscal year (July-June). You must be available to work Monday-Friday during the hours of 6pm-10:15pm, from early March – mid-November.

• Reviews all activities on San Mateo field’s including, youth user group games and practices, adult sports, private rentals and public drop in use.
• Interprets and enforces the field user policy and park policies to the public and sports user groups.
• Monitors park areas by foot to assist the general public and sports groups in the use of the park areas.
• Responds to inquiries and complaints and ensures safe use of the facilities.
• Documents all emergency and first-aid contacts.
• Reports possible safety hazards and/or unsanitary conditions to the Recreation Supervisor.
• Assist in keeping accurate records of forms, inventory and supplies
• Supports City or Department-sponsored events as required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

• Train clients safely according to current industry standards and training.
• Offer and conduct free fitness floor orientations to new customers during Fitness Floor shifts.
• Learn basic operation instruction for fitness equipment and teach these techniques to visitors. Provide corrective feedback and proper technique.
• Maintain certain class records and reports as required.
• Ensuring that a safe and healthy environment exists for exercising. Monitor guests’ activities in the fitness center.
