The City of Orinda Parks and Recreation Department is currently seeking two (2) qualified individuals with the passion and desire to work with youth campers as a summer Recreation Program Specialist (Camp Coordinator) in the Recreation Division. This position takes direction from the Camp Director and reports to the City's full-time Recreation Coordinator.

MANDATORY TRAINING: Must be available for paid training on Saturday, June 1, 2024. Additional training will occur int he mornings during the week of June 3 - June 6, 2024.
SUMMER CAMP SEASON: Must be available for summer camp season June 3 - August 9, 2024
WORK HOURS: Work hours vary depending on the number of staff and youth participants. Approximate work hours are Monday through Friday 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.
Incumbents of the position will provide their own transportation to program site(s).
Supervision:
Under the general supervision of the Recreation Coordinator and Camp Director, Camp Coordinators are responsible for the day-to-day operations of their assigned summer day camp: executing weekly curriculums by ordering supplies, supervising their camp staff, and leading all of their camp activities on a daily basis. The City of Orinda offers two city-run camps: Camp Orinda and Camp Orinda Jr.
Camp Orinda is a full-day (9:00 am to 4:00 pm) traditional camp for 6 to 11 year olds.
Camp Orinda Jr. is a half-day camp (9:15 am to 12:45 pm) for 3 1/2 to 5 year olds.
Essential Duties:
- Execute the camp curriculum in accordance with the Camp Director and Recreation Coordinator.
- Lead arts, crafts and games according to the theme of the week.
- Participate in weekly camp debriefs with Camp Director.
- Offer leadership, guidance and direction to Camp Counselors.
- Supervise Counselors-in-Training, pair CIT's with experienced Camp Counselors, and delegate CIT weekly duties during CIT camp weeks.
- Serve as a mentor and role model to campers and communicate effectively with guardians and families.
- Safely and appropriately supervise all campers. Camp Orinda Coordinator will supervise campers on weekly field trips around the East Bay.
- Monitor supplies and create weekly supply list.
- Ensure the health and safety of all campers are prioritized in all summer camp programs.
Minimum Qualifications:
All City of Orinda employees are expected to uphold and exhibit the City’s core values including serving the public, being respectful and accountable, maintaining professionalism, and demonstrating responsibility.
Education: Must have completed at least eleventh (11) grade or graduated from high school by the start of camp. High school or college-level coursework in Recreation, Sports, Administration, Human Development, Education or related field is preferred.
Experience: Recreation, athletics and/or education experience is desirable. Experience teaching and/or working with children and youth age twelve (12) and under is preferred.
Licenses/Certifications: CPR, First Aid, and AED training and/or certification are required prior to the first day of camp. There will be a CPR, First Aid and AED training at the June 1st training for any staff that is not certified by this date.
Special Requirements: This is a mandated reporter position. Appointment to this position is contingent upon:
- A valid work permit issued from school (if under age 18 and have not graduated from high school or received a State Certificate of Proficiency).
- A post offer, pre-employment live scan criminal history check (over 18 years), drug screen, physical and TB Test required. Please note that if under 18 some processes may require legal guardian consent.
